Okay, I'm not supersmart like the rest (well, most) of you. I'd like to do some simple programming to make stuff, but I have no idea where to start, what language to learn, etc. I know basic HTML, but that's it.
So I have some questions on this Hypercard...I assume it's Mac (and OS9) only? Is it really outdated or something? Will somebody come out with something similair (is there already?) or would it be worth using today?
I think the grandparent is a little off here. I don't think Monolith called Xenosaga "Xenosaga" because Square wouldn't let them call it Xenogears. They called it that because it was a different game in the same series. The "Xeno" in the title makes them easily recognizable as that, and I don't think they wanted to call it "Xenogears II." Especially because Xenogears is actually Part V in the Xeno story, and Xenosaga is Part I. (What would they call Xenosaga then? Xenogears -4?) Other popular RPGs do this too...Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross, SaGa Whatever, etc. They probably just didn't want to create confusion by naming a prequel like a sequel. Also, if Square owned the name Xenogears and wouldn't let them use it, and they used the name Xenosaga, well, the names are similair enough so Square could sue them anyway. I mean, making a prequel to somebody else's game probably isn't that smart either - which is why I'm pretty sure they had the rights to all the Xenogears stuff.
Yeah...if Apple made a tablet (now) I would buy it...it'd be awesome for running Photoshop, etc. on without having to shell out for a megabuck Wacom Cintiq...
Rez was an awesome game. It's a pitty more people haven't played it.
It's basically a shooter type of thing where you lock on to targets and stuff. The sound is awesome and the graphics are unique (and often headache inducing). It's simple, and not too deep, but superfun.
Wow...everything's happening in May - E3, a FF concert, and now this...as a huge videogame fan and an aspiring game dude (as unreasonable as it is, I still hope to work on a console - my own console - by 2010) I wish I could get to all this stuff, but I'm stuck in Minnesota. Woo-hoo.
Next year I know I will go to E3, even if I have to hitchhike there ^_^ but May 12 is shaping up to be "Gaming Week," and for me, "Gaming Week you'll always feel bad you missed." v_v...
Funny you should mention that. My mom got engaged on Friday. No ring. It's not that my mom is depressingly practical or anything...I'm sure she'd like to have anything pretty or valuable, but it's usually not that important to her, and that was the case here. She just loves the man so much. She really couldn't care less.
...with the exception of Top Spin, they were really not that great anyway, and I doubt we would have seen a Top Spin 2004 anyway. So it's just kinda...meh.
Interesting you should mention MAME. I don't know if anyone else has said this, but on TSS (on right now...later at 12c) they're gonna show how to put MAME on the Xbox. Cool...
I really hope that we get the DQV remake here. I still haven't forgiven the Enix half of SE for *almost* bringing the PS1 DQIV remake here - and then cancelling it at the last minute. ARRGH!!!
It actually probably stems from the fact that the GBA is the easiest to make games for. That's why it gets lots of crappy games based on dumb cartoons, which are, you guessed it, poorly programmed generic platforming games. Add that to the fact that Nintendo seems to refuse to make a new Mario or Zelda game for it, and that it's a nice console to remake really old classic games for, and you get, well, the study of GBA games you mentioned.
I don't think the lack of creativity is a problem. I mean, sure, we've seen a lot of sequels lately, but also some really creative games. Paging through the reviews in my most recent EGM reveals Ninja Gaiden, Eye Toy: Groove, Breakdown, and a hole ton of other creative games. About half of the games were sequels, which is a bit much, but nothing to freak out about. Also, recently, we've seen a TON of really innovative games, and we're beginning to see sequels to them. Splinter Cell comes to mind, along with Wario Ware. GTA3 was exceptionally inovative, too. Thing is, with a lot of innovative games, nobody buys them. I love Animal Crossing, and its in a genre by itself, but it didn't sell too well, and Nintendo certainly promoted it a lot. That's not much motivation for companies to make innovative, fresh games, now is it?
...is have a "Apple challenge" with the G5 and a P4. Show people both computers, have them use them, and see which one is faster, has the nicer interface, looks cooler, etc. (It would also be a good way for Apple to prove that there really is software on the Mac.) See what people would say is faster - I know what I'd say. Then they could say G5 is the fastest or whatever.
I'd be the first to admit that Apple was really lagging behind with the G4, but the G5 changed all that. Especcially since, come summer, I'll be able to buy a Dual 3 GHz (crosses fingers).
Actually, I'm waiting for a G5 Powerbook. No suprise there, but holy crap that'd be fast. (And hot...and big...but fast.);-)
...about the PS2 thing: No duh. I'm just waiting for the PSTwo:-)...about the PSP: It's AMAZING. Download the video. Now. It looks like a PS2 game, only arguably better, and its a) early in development for the game and b) before the system is released, much less "hit its stride." It's not some useless FMV tech demo, either. I want I want I want.
Buy Metroid Zero Mission. It's a GBA remake of the NES version. Perhaps best of all, you can unlock the actual NES game.
In related news, GBA SPs are *only* $99;-)
Anyways, click on the article (I wish I that went without saying) to see the rad retro boxart and the special GBA SP. I was pumped for it, and I'm glad it won't be as rare as the Famicom one, but it's just kinda...ugly. Rumor has it that Nintendo is coming out with new SP colors, though. I'm holding out for yellow;-)
$20 does seem a bit steep for a NES game, though. I mean, you could get Card-E versions of some NES games for $5 a pop. I'll still end up buying them all...sigh...
Anyhoo...how "less diabolical" of a way would you suggest? Trade in for a new cart...and lose all your Pokemon? (They're on like 350 now, aren't they?)
*ahem* it's March 31 for a lot of people (most, actually) who aren't yankees...

Except that...it's March 31...
Yeah. They even spin backwards ^_^
Well, their's already an internet Explorer...
I'm confused with what you refer to as "The RPG Bandwagon." Could you, um, clarify?

One word:
! !"
"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHH!
I'm not saying the media didn't have a Dean antibias, but all of his "Deanisms" certainly didn't help.
(I could just see his political advisors cringe as he screamed. ^_^)
If anyone is wondering, funny modifier aside, I was being serious.
Enjoy.

They already did. It came out at GBA launch. I think it was called (wait for it) Super Dodge Ball Advance. Good luck finding it!
With any luck, we'll get that NES controller seat cushion too. ;-)
No, because you can get the fix free at stores.

Uh-huh.
