Now, I think that is a very good point. I spend $200 a month on Google ads, and I haven't even bothered to add Overture to the list. My ad budget isn't bottomless, pay per click isn't great, and I focus on the biggest game in town. If I ever expand my search budget it would go like this.
1. Do Overture at all
2. More money on google
3. More money on overture
4. See two, repeat.
I don't think I'd ever ad MSN. Who ever searches from there?
Here is a description of the audio interview on this subject; "Blood Agent. You can divide all living creatures into two camps. We humans are in one camp, along with lots of other things like dogs and birds and trees and caterpillars. In the other camp are the things that live inside of us, the bacterias and viruses, the worms and protozoans, in short, parasites. Scientists estimate that the parasites outnumber us and our free-living allies by 3 to 1. Carl Zimmer, author of the book Parasite Rex, talks with Ira about how parasites manage the trick of living inside of us, behind enemy lines, without us finding out. (11 minutes)"
My favorite part is when Ira Glass asks "whose side are you on?"
There is a concept in Ayurveda called Prana. It is life force or energy. Perhaps analogous to Chi in Chinese, though I don't know enough about Chinese to know if it a good analogy. Anyway, Prana is considered an essential part of nutrition in ayurvedic medicine. Fresh plants and foods have it, and old or over processed foods do not. So while it may be possible to get starch, protein, and chemical vitamins from a 7 year old sandwich, it could never have much Prana, and not getting enough Prana is bad for human health.
"Yes, how dare they obey the laws of a land they are opperating in. I suppose you also think Google is evil for complying with DMCA takedown notices in the USA or the anti-nazi laws in Germany or the competition in advertising laws in France?"
Well, yes, I think a strong case can be made that obeying an evil law (and I do think censorship is evil) is itself evil. Interesting that your short post should mention the existence of Nazis, as I do believe that in Nuremberg, it was decided that in FACT obeying evil laws was still a crime. Now, before I have to pull 10 people out of my throat because they jumped down it, I am not saying that censorship is as bad as say death camps. But that doesn't make censorship not evil, just because something else is more evil.
As much as I love Google as a search engine, I do have to say that this one is just a little bit scary. Can they really create their own internet, and still do no evil? Already, they are complicit in censorship in China. It doesn't make me really trust them with a project of this scope (though free wi-fi is cool...)
FTA " While one star may seem like the lowest rating, no-rating proved the black sheep of the lot."
IMHO this is a stupid choice. If I have taken the time to give a song the lowest rating possible, to me, that should rate lower than a song I haven't gotten around to playing.
Knowing this, I think I will throw away songs that I think should have a one star rating, and give all of my unheard songs a 1 star.
As a pro photographer, I have investigated a lot of the online labs. I have found Adorama.com to have good quality and features at the best prices. 4x6 for $0.19 8x10 for $1.99 and I can have matte or gloss, full bleed or borders (some of the other online labs don't offer all of these options)
For slightly better quality, better large size prints, and not too much more money, there is mpix.com.
Both of these sights have Mac friendly upload options, and with Adorama, for really big orders, I can send them a disc instead of waiting all day for 300 3 MB files to upload.
Oh, the other cool thing about Adorama, they will send the photos directly to my client, with no invoice in the box so the clients don't see what I am paying -vs- what I am charging! This saves me time, postage, and packaging.
Could you help me with the 'free as in beer' thing that I see here on/. all the time. WTF? This is not a joke or a troll. I really have no idea what it means. And isn't there another "free as in _____" that floats around in contrast?
Now, why was this parent moded troll? I think it is a very valid point, only spoken in an ironic tone of voice. MS is again showing that they get their best ideas by copying from their competitors. I think everyone would agree that this company has been doing this since they licensed the look and feel their basic OS from Apple back in the 80's.
I don't thinkthis stuff is going to do much more than keep buildings clean. FTA: "Trying to clean up air pollution seems to me to be a stretch," said Reynaldo Barreto, a chemistry professor at Purdue University in Indiana. "It doesn't mean it can't be done. But there's an awful lot of air and not a whole lot of surface."
GELLERMAN: And in the '70s when they had the oil shock prices then in the long gas lines. Ethanol was in the news and people were using it. So, what's new here is that, instead of making it from corn, now we can make it from other things.
COLEMAN: Correct. There's a term called cellulosic ethanol and the end product is the same. However, cellulosic ethanol comes from the leaves, stems and stalks of the plants instead of just the fruits and the seeds. So if today's ethanol producers grow corn to harvest a corn kernel, tomorrow's producers may be choosing from rice, wheat, oat, barley, straw, switch grass. Some companies even want to make it out of urbanized waste streams and municipal waste and even stale beer.
Should be really usefull if...

Very well said. That first paragraph you quoted caught my attention too. I guess it isn't just American courts who care more about corporate rights (see last weeks eminent domain decision) than anything else.
E-books aren't easier, they are lame. Talk about a product without a need. "Lets replace books, because books don't use electricity" IMNSHO E-books take second place in the all time useless innovation awards, with first going to that tablet computer that was supposed to stick on your fridge to replace sticking paper notes to your fridge. Wasn't it called Audrey or something?
There are so many practical and esthetic reasons that a physical book is so much better than an e-book. Holding and reading a physical book is one of the great joys in life, and it is a great way to access and retrieve information. I can think of only one way an e-book improves on a conventional book (and it's not DRM, it's the ability to carry many books in less weight and space) but in every other way the experience is less appealing and satisfying than a real book.
Who is taking money from our children and grandchildren in the form of massive deficit spending? Is it a liberal? No! It's W! Who is giving huge tax breaks to the rich, and to nobody else (thus, in your words "taking money from these people and giving it to someone else?" Is it our liberal president? No! It's W!
That is the sound of the horn of Gabriel, signaling the Apocalypse, I can't believe I agree with Sandra O'Connor, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, as well as Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.
I have a cabin in the mountains. When I am up here, I am far far away from any but the most mainstream whit bread stores. If I want spam on mayonnaise, no problem. If I want yerba matte, or Sumatran coffee, or a yoga mat or what ever else my non bud lite drinking mind can think of (if I wanted bud lite, no problem), I can either wait until I go back to the city (sometimes weeks depending on the season), or volia, eBay stores.

I just checked versiontracker.com and can find no mention of eDonkey. Is there a MAC version?

Can you not see the irony of asking me not to talk about censorship?

Already being a dad, i would gladly give up the chance to have more kids (one is plenty) to live another 50 healthy years.

I vote: No
Apparently so.

I think it's ugly too. looks more like a mouse than a phone.
