Better check your math. Element doesn't sell Lycoris anymore - I heard their marketing guy got fired from Lycoris and went to work at Element. They don't sell that $999 tablet anymore either - it's $1099. Element cashes in on lies - they say that THEIR version of win4lin runs ALL Windows programs, and NeTraverse never released a joint press release with them. Sounds very fishy to me. Just a bunch of used car salesmen.
To top it off, they don't even seem to HAVE a public distro! No source code available, NOTHING. That's not what Linux is about.
Apparently Michael Robertson is just a money-grubbing whore. He stated so vehemently that Lindows wasn't like Windows - until he could talk them into a cash payment.
This is appalling for Linux.
So is a used car salesman. He's also probably trying to sell you something broken, just like Robertson does with Lindows.
In other news - did anyone else notice over 30 comments NOT about this story FIRST? Does anyone even CARE if they call themselves Lindows? They give their OS away so they can charge for apt-get. Get real. Get Debian.
Lindows is STILL baiting and switching. Their "free" trial is really $14.95 a month. They are snake oil salesmen as you pointed out. They also claimed to have a Tablet PC working (never materialized), "the first AOL PC," (that resulted in a cease and desist order from AOL because they just used Netscape), and many more. Now they are going IPO and it's going to put a BAD mark on Linux.
Lindows has survived, but only on lies and untruths. Remember MSFreePC.com? Took money and EVAPORATED. Then they changed their name AGAIN. Lindoz, Lindows.com, Lin---s, Lindash, Linspire - they are just LINSIPID.
I hope someone can make use of all the money Robertson threw at WINE trying to make it work though. Linux will triumph despite all their used car salesmanship!
Don't worry - I used my mod points on another account! Definitely up.
Speaking of the RIAA - Did you know Lindows is the only Linux that has signed agreements with SCO and the RIAA? Check my homepage for more news about their fraud and theft.
It's important to note that the violations CONTINUE. And let's face it - this money doesn't go to feed or clothe poor people - it goes....where DOES it go?
Regardless of whether Mark derives income from sales of his graphics, it's clearly marked that his permission is required prior to use of the images. Not "if used in commercial work" or "free for individual use". They clearly didn't get his permission (or even ask for it) even though it was for use in a Flash movie.
If they have such a cavalier attitude towards ownership of something visible, what might they have done with something not quite as obvious?
Not only that, but the flash movies are ON THE CD. It is their introduction to the OS. Check out the CD. It's on EVERY SINGLE COPY of Lindows & Linspire CDs since at least 3.0. Now granted, they give it away...oh yeah, so they can get you to buy click-n-run. This is even WORSE! "Let's go steal artwork, not attribute the source, and then give it away as part of the OS so we can sell it."
Help stop their IPO. These people are a black eye for Linux
Well, yes, but if you've created a piece of Intellectual Property, it doesn't matter how small the offense is, it kind of stings.
Um - NO! These flash intros are INCLUDED ON THE CD!!! More information about that soon to be posted on my website. STOP THE IPO - these people are out and out THIEVES. There is more info coming - bookmark my homepage!
BLATANT MISUSE. Check out my site! It's got LOTS more information that Lindows does not want you to know.
The flash that comes from Linspire has not all been updated. MOST of it is still "Lindows" not Linspire! It SHIPS ON THE CD as Lindows - yet ANOTHER clear violation of judgements against Lindows.
These guys are out and out SLEAZE. It's one thing to utilize Tux and give credit, it's another thing to have been STEALING for three years now!

Sounds like Lindows. $63,000 in sales in 2002. $6,700,000 spent in 2002. More than $100 spent for every dollar brought in! At least you know what happened to the money you spent on mp3.com stock.
Well all Robertson would say is "LINDOWS takes the desktop..." No one could hear above him talking about Lindows and where the company is going. With their IPO. Just remember if you're hoping to cash in on their bubble, Lindows brought in...$63,000 dollars in sales in 2002, and spent, $6,700,000!
Perl DEFINITELY has its uses. You've just got to use the right tool for the right job. There are good tools out there, just use the right tool in the right place.
Highly entertaining indeed! Check my sig for more info. They also will - get this - need more money than $57 million in 24 months. It's a farce designed to make the stockholders rich and screw the users.
They spend $6.7 million in 2002 to get sales of $63,000!!!! OH MY GOODNESS they are absolute idiots! That's more than $100 spent for every dollar they take in!
And they announced a HUGE amount of vaporware. The Tablet PC - never came out even though the photos were there. Photoshop anyone? They run as root. They announced they had a Windows clone. Do something original - don't buy this crapware! Kill the IPO.
Watch to see if Kevin Carmony - the president - leaves. Why DO you need a President AND a CEO when there are less than 20 people in the company? Why should we buy the IPO if you have never shown a profit, and never will? They actually spend $1000 for every dollar they take in. Read my sig for more.

What a liar!
It appears Michael Robertson is nothing but a liar!

Episode #046 "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk" - Homer gets laid off. Now if they can just lay off Daryl....
I do believe that's called a Saturn. One size fits all, right?
Don't worry - I used my mod points on another account! Definitely up.
Speaking of the RIAA - Did you know Lindows is the only Linux that has signed agreements with SCO and the RIAA? Check my homepage for more news about their fraud and theft.
And who are the worst two abusers of the patent system? Microsoft and Research in Motion - the Register refers to them as Lawsuits in Motion.
You need to have reproducible rights to LEGALLY reproduce them. These take many forms.
/.ers don't care if the prices are $6 for a movie at Blockbuster and $10+ at the movie theater. I wonder why?
You also need to have distribution rights to distribute them.
Apparently many
We even have ads on sports jerseys, on the outfield wall, right behind home plate, anywhere that the camera looks.
No, Mitnick never caused harm or did anything destructive like this. Bomb threats are MUCH worse than being a jerk.

You have bigger balls than most /.ers if you promote MS products. Where's my +1 ballsy modifier?
Can you imagine the virus you could write if you could change the instruction set of the cpu?
Indeed. If the processor can tell ITSELF how to change, then the code can be put in somewhere.
Especially considering that at $50 for the OS and $50/yr for the subscription to their software archive you might as well have just purchaced XP.
Or bought Xandros. Or Lycoris. Or Mandrake. Or anything else. It's just a scam, and Robertson will be on to something else.
