Religons cause more stupid ass violence in this world.
Ya, we kill each other over stupid ass ideas, that no one can prove is real, yet believe it to the point they have no problem killing others for not believing in it.
The problem is, even if you believe in your religon, but don't have the extreme views, your just as guilty. why you ask? because you keep the belief going on.
life on this planet has shown us, many times, that man is stupid and will take his stupid beliefs to the extreme then to admit he was wrong. and religons are teh biggest examples of this.
I see peeps on the corner trying to spread their religon as kin to someone who found a drug and is trying to get all his friends to join in so he doens't feel stupid for doing it alone.
And worse, they think because they found "something else" that everyone else is missing out.
Look people, it's very easy.
There is no god. no jesus, no budda, no mahammad, no purple spaggetti monster, nothing.
We live, and we die.
there isn't any point in our lifes, other then living, breeding, and dying.
The problem is, thats too much for a lot of you to handle. You think you need some rules to govern your behavior in this life, so you believe in crap that doesn't even make a good movie.
Honestly, i think religions were started because some peeps figured out that if everyone didn't think they need to be nice to get to heaven, then everyone would be mean to each other.
Well, dang, religons even screwed that up.
If you need a reason to be nice to people everyday, to treat others with respect, you have worse problems then needing a religon.
What we need is to educate everyone, give everyone in the world the same things, a job, a place to live, food to eat. Then you'll find the misunderstandings might just start to go away.
But with religons being around, they won't. Religons breed ignorance.
That being said, I did not have the same experience when I was teaching in the US. The Chinese students there cheated like mad. My friend (Japanese) who is now teaching in the US writes me at least once a month asking, "What should I do with all these Chinese students? They're all cheating!" I tell her to fail them, but she's too nice.
Naw, she has it correct. let them cheat. they won't get jobs here because they will suck at them, and if they are going back to china with their "education" more power to them.
As sad as it is, I think I have to agree with many of the above commentators. There does seem to be a strange lack of morals in people from the PRC, particularly the students. In Australian universities, rightly or wrongly, they have something of a reputation for being underhanded, plagiarising cheats who you really, really do not want to have in your group assignments. That's not to say they're the only one's doing it, far from it, but they definitely have that reputation. Maybe things have changed, I don't know.
In terms of the underlying reason, It could be for any number of reasons. Maybe they find the language hard? *shrugs*. But then students from other countries don't resort to cheating. Or maybe they don't quite understand what exactly plagiarism is? I don't know. I doubt it. Maybe they don't know how to reference? I worked in one group where they basically copied entire paragraphs, word for word, from our mentor's project (submitted the year before). They didn't even both to change the product names to match what we were doing. And when I confronted them, they didn't seem particularly repentant, more annoyed they got caught. Heck, I've seen them submit in Wikipedia articles as their project, formatting unchanged.
I really don't think it's a cultural thing as such. True, Confucianism does have its weird quirks. But to argue that we have no morals is a little unfair. However, my father taught me a saying when we were young, I probably can't even write the characters anymore...haha...disgraceful, but basically, it went along the lines of when your wealth is short, your morals are correspondingly short. Maybe that's it. But I doubt most of the international students arriving here are exactly "poor", by any definition.
I suspect it's really just a "win at any costs" culture endemic on the mainland, combined with their infamous mercenariness. Even in business, from what I've heard, you really, really want to be careful dealing with them. They'll screw you over nine ways to Sunday, and sell their own grandmother to make a buck. *sigh*. It really is sad to see, but maybe things will change, as they get wealthier?
Cheers, Victor
When i was in school, i'd just find the oldest encylopedia i could find and copy it. Either my teachers didn't care, or they thought I was a boring writer. either way, I always got passing grades.
Maybe they should use wiki's from other countries and translate them so it will be a little different. lol
Ireland's airspace as well as Englands, France, Germany, Finland etc all closed at present and has been since before the weekend, lots of people stuck in other countrys unable to get home and are trying any means available to try and get home. US/Canada will really feel it if the same thing happens.....and people think we're not all connected in the world:)
#1) The cows are 'locked in'. #2) The treadmill is inclined.
This results in the animal walking out of 'fear' from falling. The inability of the animal to stop whenever it wants is cruel treatment. On the other hand, if it were 'elective' and the cows got a special treat (a yummy grass/feed?) then it is a different story.
I would like to see how guy would like to be locked onto a treadmill 8hrs a day, walking uphill the entire time.
I doubt the quality of the milk would be very good. Stress does not make for a nice quality or quantity of milk. (I used to work on a dairy farm.)
CS is just difficult for some people. We didn't all grow up programming in the basement. I've seen students who finally got their program to "run" by commenting out every line, and sadly, were so clueless that they were quite proud of the fact.
Oddly, it's actually easier now that computers are ubiquitous and going to the CS lab to complete an assignment isn't necessary.
If they are that clueless, then they are taking the wrong course.
Um, would these be the same people who call me for help when their "e-mail is broken" because they accidentally sorted it by something other than 'Date'?
As Jeff Raikes (Microsoft buisness group president) said on the subject of piracy:
If you're going to be a software counterfeiter, then please copy and illegally use Microsoft products.
It's not just open source that suffers, it's smaller competitors. In the '90s, MS Office was probably the best office suite around, but there were lots of ones that were good enough for most people and cost a tenth of the amount. Given the choice between MS Office for $200 and SmallCo Office for $20, it was a trivial decision; MS Office was not worth $200 to a typical home user, or even a lot of small businesses. If you're pirating though, it's a choice between MS Office for $0 and SmallCo Office for $0. You pick MS Office, because it has more features.
The product that you're pirating comes from MS, but the company that lost a sale is SmallCo. This seems to be something that the RIAA and friends miss when they equate one download to one lost sale. Even if the person would have bought if they couldn't pirate, they often would not have bought the same thing that they downloaded.
What does that happen to do with music?
When I want to listen to some good rock, like Led Zepplin, I get Led Zepplin. I don't go and buy Ratt because it might be cheaper and have less good songs.
When your talking software, yes, you got choices, but music? No.
If you like The Legendary Pink Dots, your not going to be happy getting Tiny Tim Cd's instead.
... To the good old days, when I was doing janitor work in a building that happen to host Real Networks, before they became the Real Networks (used to do some voice mail stuff). Anyways, besides all the hardware and software I "borrowed" from them, they ended up getting a very early beta of OS/2, which I of course, "borrowed" (hey, i returned it a few days later, it was like 30 disks to copy). And a little digging I found out how I could get on the beta. Hey, in the early 90's, having someone send you 30+ disks every few months rocked.
Loved the OS, shit, it ran Dos games faster then dos did. And I could multitask on top of it. And run windows 3.1 apps!!!!!
Of course, W95 came out just a bit later and OS/2 was quickly forgotton.
lol
And I'd like to thank that law firm that left me the 2 486 cpu's and 16 megs of memory back then also. I know you left a note asking what happened to them, sorry I didn't get back to ya sooner.
I guess it's time to just start making anonymous sockpuppet accounts.
Use a few anonymous proxies, never log into those accounts on a normal connection.
Oh ya, lets see you go after me now...
=)
oh wait, i don't post anonymous because I'm not afraid of someone coming after me for what I say, in fact, i welcome it.
I want some big deep pockets company to sue me, so I can drag it thru courts. I don't work, I'll still get my disability, and I can spend my time in court.
At the risk of being modded down...
really, you are afraid to post because of that?
Be afraid to post because you might have nothing to add to the conversation (like my post), but don't bother caring about how others mod you.
Peeps with mod points are stupid. chances are, this will make insightful, just to prove a point.
oh ya, thats because i won't install it.
serously i don't need flash games, and i don't need flash ads.
what else is flash used for?

After all, if it wasn't for the Porn industry, VCR's wouldn't of take off like it did, and of course, we all know it helps the internet get popular.
Seems to me like enough peeps are into porn that it can change markets.

yes, because volcanos never erupt in the USA
.... People who buy Apple products are generally okay with being limited on capabilities.
limited mental capabilities?
oh wait, you meant the iphone, my bad...
Are you the kind of person who will wait at a “Don’t Walk” sign on an empty street? Then you probably live in Seattle.
that had me rofl.
The reason we wait for the Walk is because we usually have weed on us and don't want the cops to hassle us.
Whats fail is your post.
There are two glaring faults with this setup:
#1) The cows are 'locked in'.
#2) The treadmill is inclined.
This results in the animal walking out of 'fear' from falling. The inability of the animal to stop whenever it wants is cruel treatment. On the other hand, if it were 'elective' and the cows got a special treat (a yummy grass/feed?) then it is a different story.

quit relating human things to animals.

I'd say they are 100% inaccurate.
Seeing as it's IMPOSSIBLE to get a correct number, or even an close estimate of the number of pirated copies.
They can though, give you a total cost of how much they are wasting on DRM.
If there's one thing I've learned in my 4 decades on this planet, is when you say something, peeps prove ya wrong.
Most of us probably can only multitask 2 things at a time, but saying thats all humans can do?
Sorry, I'm more then sure there's peeps who can do 3 or 4 things at a time, while there's some who can only do 1 thing, or not anything.
Um, would these be the same people who call me for help when their "e-mail is broken" because they accidentally sorted it by something other than 'Date'?

Well, you might be, but I know I won't be.
You use the scale as part of your excerise, ie. to check your weight.
It requires balance, and if it's electric, it has some sort of computer (roughly) in it.
It gets it's reading by the force of your gravity on it.
I don't download game demos anymore, I download the whole pirated game. If it's good and I like it, then I'll buy the game.
So ya, whatever works
Er, then why is that an overwhelming number of felons are Democrats?
Because the republicans like to make stupid ass laws that gets more americans convicted.
And if you are going to jail because of a law the republicans got passed, staying with there party is pretty stupid.
It's way too easy to get a "felon" status for the stupidess crimes these days.
And anyways, Republicans usually have their fellow republicans get them out of trouble.
They are all playing second life, 'cause no humans play it.
Border searches of data storage - sure (a small addition of one stated purpose required)
Spyware that deletes infringing content - game DRM is very close; if it "thinks" something's wrong, it nukes your ability to use the content.
Managing to stay mostly under the radar just fine...
Ya, as if border crossing aren't slow enough, but having to take 30 mins to scan thru a 1tb harddrive? won't happen.
IM is basically worthless if you have SMS.
SMS > IM.
Let me correct you.
On my plan, SMS costs me money, Sure, I get like 300 free, but then they are like 20 cents each.
IM would go over data, which I pay a monthly fee on.
So, what you are saying is that your comment is worthless because you are only thinking of yourself.
The question is, which Avengers? Old school 70's? Crappy 80's? Sucky 90's? Or the reboot they've since then?
I'm down with some original avengers. That would be cool.
And what would be even cooler? If they didn't put it in modern day, but set the time like back in the 70's.
