That is pretty funny. When I installed RR for a TWC contractor, we never secured anything or provided any information to the customers about it. There was no printed material and I wasn't about to try to explain it...
When someone says free software in this context it means libre. free software and freeware are not the same thing at all. freeware is software you can use without paying for it, and free software is software you can use/sell/modify/kludge/hack/whatever without obligation. freeware is beer free, free software is freedom free. open source software can be free software, or not, and it can be freeware, or not. It's all in how the product is licensed. And, as the original article indicates, it's largely a matter of semantics. For a lot of people it's still a pretty important difference though.
this shouldn't be modded troll... He's absolutely right.
For another angle on this refer to the New Hampshire state constitution, where it's encoded right there with all the other rights as "Right to Revolution" (Article 10).

I hate to admit it but the parent post does have a point. He is merely pointing out the legal ramifications of posting a link to it. I believe Time-Warner will be well within their rights to ask Slashdot to take the link to the torrents down.
Of course they would be within their rights to, but it would likely take a week to make it happen, after which point, ostensibly, no one will be downloading anymore. The torrent links will be useless by then. In any case, If slashdot removed the links at that time, no harm would be done here, since the link to the transcript remains. So, ultimately it's a moot point as I see it. A cease-and-desist has no "legal ramifications" if it's complied with, and it has no practical ramifications if compliance doesn't change anything.
PS If you don't want to download it, just read the transcript.
That's not really true... It's not possible to uninstall TCP/IP in XP but reinstalling it is relatively easy.
The most certain way to make it happen in my experience is the following:
1. Use regedit (Start, Run, regedit) to get in the registry and delete any "Winsock" and "Winsock2" keys in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\
2. Reboot
3. Open network control panel
4. Click install
5. Select "protocol", click OK
6. Select "have disk"
7. Type in c:\windows\inf in the path, click OK
8. Select TCP/IP, click OK
9. Reboot
Then you're back online. Again, it could be easier but really it's not that hard.
FWIW I don't think the first reboot is supposed to be necessary according to M$, but I have had mixed luck without it, and seeing as certain common spyware (such as new.net) causes this corruption to happen, I have had to run through this procedure a lot of times. It works well.
Interesting post, tell us more? Not being in that business I lack the insight to know how you'd save years of setup time. For that matter, why wouldn't a regular computer do the job?
uh... minix?
so, what's a partial anal search?

Well, anyone can buy commercial service, corporation or not. The problem is you pay twice as much for the same service.
ugh. Responding to a troll is one thing, but an AC troll? A true shame indeed.
I wonder what the heat from a two-stroke engine next to your nuts would do?
As a Quaker, I must object to this denigration.
because it sells, duh
yeah, sorry, I meant financial obligation. more semantics (:
Anyway, here's what the FSF has to say about free software, for anyone who's still not clear on the matter.
For reference, the GPL v2

don't forget to tally all the popcorn, candy, and sodas, etc, that the theaters rake you over the coals for.

If I am the hiring manager with a tight budget, I want more for less so cheaper -is- better.

or rather, quadraplegic, yeah
welcome our new cybernetic paraplegic overlords.
hope they do something fun with it.
Whereas most banks will gladly take your money as long as it's legal, PayPal will shut you down if they don't like your politics.
Or so rumor has it.
