Some of us don't have win keys on our keyboard, so we are stuck with being unable to natively use the useful keyboard shortcuts supplied by the win key. I suppose that there might be some way around this by mapping the win key to the capslock or something but I have never looked.

And no I won't switch keyboards I love my model m.

Now while $500 isn't too much to ask to have your driver officially supported by microsoft and allowed to run on vista, it raises an interesting issue. If a company makes drivers for vista, and microsoft, or whoever verifies that the binary blobs are allowed to impede in vista's kernel, decide that they don't like something that that company is doing, say supporting linux heavily. What is too keep microsoft or whoever from just saying nope your driver isn't good enough?

why not just put debian on the server. Sarge took 3 years to get stable, and it is very stable. While debian might not look as snazzy as ubuntu, its release scheduling and the anal-retentive developers make it a very good product for servers and the like. I am not so sure that ubuntu would be the best option for a server.

If there became an online library consisting of most if not all books, I would be willing to pay for a subscription. I believe that there is a large market of people that want unusual or hard to find in print books. This would allow people to search for these books. Along with helping that niche market, there would also be the vast benefit to researchers and college students. Why buy a book for 20 dollars just for one paper because your library doesn't have a copy when you can use a service with all the books already there for a small set fee. Overall this would be cheaper for the end user of small print books. The only pitfall is in the major money makers of the publishing industry, bestsellers and textbooks. However, I don't think that having then in ebook form would greatly hurt their sales. Books, as in those on paper, have unique advantages. One they are highly and easily portable. I don't want to read on my laptop while taking a crap. I also use the margins in textbooks. There is nothing like having a real book in hand. But having the availability of books hard to come by along with books used infrequently or once briefly per person would greatly benifit all those literate.

  18. why I don't use a pda on The Future of the PDA · · Score: 1, Insightful

A pda is supposed to be a personal digital assisstant. Modern pdas have become pcs, personal computers. They are laptops in a small form factor. If you compare a modern pda to an older laptop you will find many resemblences: their processor speed, their screen size, and the applications. I don't need word for my pda. I don't need games for my pda, though they are nice. If pda manufacturers are going to keep making pdas like pcs they should go all in and include decent hard drive size, so you can store and play music, native usb support, ie a female usb plug, and they should include more computer like software. However they still keep the base functionality of the pda with note takers, address books, and the like. But instead of making a pda with just the basic functionality of a pda, they include computer like apps. They take a middle stand making pdas too expensive for most users, and include apps that most users don't need or won't use. I think that pdas should either be more like a cell phone, simple interface, limited apps, or like a tablet pc: great variety of apps and a decent interface for using those apps.
