That's almost a good point, until you realize that Microsoft wasn't donating the money, it was Bill and Melinda Gates' foundation. Just because the Gates' have some kind of conscience doesn't mean Microsoft does.
This is something I don't get about all this search for life on Mars. What makes us think that life on mars is similar to what we percieve life as on earth? Life there may be of different type; maybe unlike on earth, they may not have a physical body boundary. They may not need water or oxygen to survive.
I agree completely. However, other life could easily be something completely unrecognizable to us as life, and so we'd be wasting our time looking for it. It's possible of course to encounter unrelated life that is obviously alive, such as alien "animals," but who's to say anyone could recognize alien life forms that had cellular chemistry completely unrelated to ours. So when looking for microbes I think it's reasonable to confine, or at least focus, our search to things that we're sure we can recognize.
What is up with people these days? Are they so desensitized that the only way to entice them to play a video game is with things like this?
Flat Out has very stylized, non-realistic violence. It's something that's so completely over the top as to be funny. If it were realistic it would be horrifying, but as is you can fling your driver 800 feet into the air after going over a ramp. That is no more gratuitously violent than Looney Toons when Wile E. Coyote falls off a cliff with a little cloud of dust and coyote-shaped hole at the bottom.
Personally I have the impression that "jerkiness" is something very subjective. If I don't think someone is being a jerk, what good is it to have a little device that thinks so?
The only possible use I could see for this in that respect would be if you thought someone was being a jerk but also thought you might just be imagining it. Then, when the machine said "This person is being a jerk" it would serve as independent verification of what you already thought.
I know that diesel exhaust gives me headaches (more so than gasoline exhaust), and if that's a common problem it might have something do with it. I couldn't handle a city street with umpteen diesel taxis.
Does that mean that in potential future patients, any free/unabsorbed nanoparticles will be excreted into the public sewage systems, and being (I assume) unfilterable, thereby enter the earths water cycle?
I work at a waste water treatment plant and we blast all the water with some pretty intense UV light before sending it to the general water supply (mostly to kill the bacteria we use to break down what we lovingly call "biosolids"), and I would imagine that even if these nanoparticles got into the water in sufficient amounts that they might start causing damage that the UV light would break them down, at least a little. I also don't imagine that using them like this would lead to enough getting into the water to pose any problem in the first place; there's a lot of water in the world, and I can't imagine the concentration of these things within our body would be too terribly high.
I am very curious to see if they will come up with anything.
That sure sounds to me like he's open to the possibility of string theory being correct. While the use of the word "believe" may have offended your senses, I don't think he meant it in the religious sense of "faith." I think it was meant more as a "I don't buy it yet, due to lack of evidence."
This thing looks like a taxi and not a truck because that's exactly what it is. It's not designed to carry huge payloads like satellites, as an earlier poster already pointed out. This is exactly what it says it is: a crew vehicle. It's also designed to be moduler, so if they need a lot of space, say for food and excercise room for a 9 month trip to Mars, the launch into low earth orbit and rendezvous with other modules that have been put there by other heavy-lifting rockets.
The attempted murder thing is really just so they can take you into custody so they can watch you to make sure you don't try to kill yourself again. Have you ever heard of anyone being convicted of attempted murder for trying to kill theirself?
Man, it's sad, but I thought the same thing, and was very very confused. I had to read it four or five times before I realized they were quoting South Park.
No no no, it's because you accidentally travel back in time because you put metal in the microwave while watching a supernova. While there you spend all your time trying to protect your great grandfather so you will still exist, but he ends up being killed in a nuclear test. Since you still exist you come to the obvious conclusion that the woman he was engaged to is not your grandmother so it's okay to do her. Only after waking up in the morning does Professor Farnsworth explain to you that she actually is your grandmother and you've just become your own grandfather.
For those of you with no idea what I'm talking about, watch more Futurama.
For all of the liberal documentation of corruption, lies and deception, the republicans are far, far, FAR better at media manipulation than the liberals are. And until the liberals fix that oversight and work the "spin" a bit better, they're not going to be back in office.
While I agree that what you say is probably true, it makes me feel worse rather than better. Basically what that means is that in order to defeat the Neo-Cons Liberals are going to have to become more manipulative of the media, more like the people we are trying to oust. It's just a very sad reflection on America that what we need (truth, honesty, etc) and what will be necessary to remove the current rulers (lies, deceit, manipulation, etc) are so diametrically opposed.
There's no room for dissent beyond the approved dissent
It seems to me that this is blatantly trampling on the basic right to support whichever candidate you choose. Once people start being punished by officials in any way for who they supported in the election then our society can no longer be considered free, as we no longer have the freedom to support a candidate without fear of repercussions from the winner should our candidate lose. This is the first step on the move to a one-party "democracy." It seems that the "approved dissent" as you put it has been reduced from choosing between Democrats and Republicans to choosing between Moderate and Conservative Republicans.
You can launch from Earth with just enough fuel to reach the moon (saving fuel that way because it keeps your weight down) then enter lunar orbit and refuel without actually landing on the moon.
At my university they require extremely strong passwords. In fact, when I was trying to create mine I was getting very frustrated simply because it kept telling me that passwords were based on words that I could swear I had made up randomly. How is h8wusj1 based on a word?
I rather doubt that the average Amish would be able to explain, at a fundamental level... how propane burns
Burning really isn't all that complicated. I think that if an Amish person wanted to be able to use propane light they could expend the two hours (actually much much less than that) to learn a little chemistry, how the molecules break up to release energy that we experience as heat and light.
Interesting idea, but would the cost of building the sets be less expensive than having a modellor design it? I think a more practical approach would be to model individual objects using this technique (like a chair or a gun or whatever) and just stick that model in the game, rather than modelling an entire scene.
While I don't like Roland's scheme either, from what I've seen recently he has changed and has started putting the direct links in his submission, with the link to his blog only appearing lower in the blurb.
I agree that the split keyboards are great, I like them too, I was just saying that they didn't catch on like they were "supposed to" and I think this mouse will be the same.

I'm nineteen and haven't heard of sex bracelets until just now...

Funny, I never see any popups or spyware, and only very, very rarely do I see banners... oh yeah, I use Firefox.

All of that may be, however giving less money to the gas companies is reason enough for me. They are pure evil.

Got anything harder than beer?

Aha, then you get into the question: is socialism a bad thing? I am sure I will never convince you it's not just as you will never convince me it is.

Damn, I was just thinking that I wish I had more hot chicks in my classes. It's pretty bad when you know the number of girls in your classes.
