"The computers interfere with making eye contact. You've got this picket fence between you and the students."'
How many people here can type without having to pay extreme attention to the screen? I'm here right now, able to send this message without having to focus on the screen.
Eye contact cannot be a good arguement as you don't need eye contact to pay attention. I find that it is a lot easier to take notes if I've got a laptop in front of me. The fact that I'm skilled in using it, makes it easier to split my concentration from the transcription to the instructor.
Maybe what she needs to give is some typing lessons in order to get them to be able to type without staring at the screen! I remember the boxes in Elementary school when they were teaching me how to type... of course, you could just unplug the monitor instead.
As long as drastic and even draconic copy protection measures are taken (*ahem*Staforce!*ahem*), there will be no choice but to actually have the disk/s.
I have to assume that the comparisons are between digital distrobution and physical disks whether they are DVD or CD-RW etc.
Also, my father just did a backup of his laptop. How did he manage that? Through the use of CDs. So, I doubt physical CDs will be phased out.
X-Com UFO Defense: Enemy Unknown for the PSX is one that has brought me back every two months. The fact that I've never been able to beat it just spurrs me on. I think I managed to get what.. 88% of the research tree, and managed to manufacture an Avenger, but I ran out of Elerium to fuel it.
I doubt I'll be able to fbeat it in the near future, but it's one that continues to pull at me.
DAMN THOSE CYBRIDS.
I do live in Utah, and I'm at the age of 17. I work at an internet cafe that caters mostly to my High School and other High Schools in the area.
Now, a bill like this would cause my buisiness to close. We just wouldn't make enough money to actually pay our bills.
We have a large painting on our windows on front, these windows depict a fight between various science fiction and fantasy characters. No harm, but it is still violent when you look at it. Thus, my work could potentially have to remove the VERY expensive artwork that we have been working so hard to make sure it stays.
I live in a smaller city of Taylorsville, where the city government is passing so many stupid regulation against buisnesses that we have had a hard time staying in buisiness anyway. We pay taxes, I pay taxes, hell I even get to vote in the next 6 months. But if this bill were to pass at the state level, it would decimate the city that is already having difficulty.
A buisiness leaves, taking a bit of the tax base with it, causing the city government to try and make up for the lost revenue, however that only pisses off more of the smaller buisinesses here. Eventually this place will be a slum.
Not only is this bill a pain for someone like me that PAYS for his software and UNDERSTANDS that these peices of software are not real, the small minority of people that are already disturbed, cause the problem for the large majority of good upstanding teens and adults that consume this material.
But, if you disable punkbuster, you are kind of defeating the whole point of this boycott.
I say use punkbuster, and figure out why things are happening the way they are and fix it. It may be hard, but clean installs of everything can usually do the trick.
(run fdisk)
That's the problem with a fight like this. There are people that buy it for the single player, and people that buy it for the multiplayer. The group that this motion is targetting are both companies and those that play the multiplayer.
If you play singleplayer, and find it great and find that this whole matter is trivial, good for you. This shouldn't effect you one iota as they are clamoring for multiplayer changes which you don't use anyway.
Yes, I did send a comment in. Hopefully, there will be enough people to get VU to realize that they just can't be jerks about thier stuff. As far as I know, they aren't even developing for that series anymore. If so, why do they hold on to it like that when you can't even buy it from VU either?
Reguardless if the child is tought to be morally right or not, I'm focusing on how people my age tend to think things out more, to get more of what they want.
You have to weigh in the possibilities of the child getting the software from another source.
You have to worry about the possibilities of the child playing the game while you are away.
You have to worry aobut the possibilities of the child buying the game himself.
Let me ask you this... Have you been a politician? If you have, then you would understand how hard this is. A kid has many many many friends in his life and even though some people may not think so, having a kid's friends hate a parent can make life a hell for that parent.
I'm not a parent myself, but it just seems like if the child is in Junior High or Senior High School, there is more power heading to them as they learn more and learn how to manipulate things more.
... This seems to be the biggest problem with this whole issue. It is a game, not real and just a few minors, (Yes, I'm a minor as well,) end up having a nice little rock for politicians to grab onto in that giant Climbing-Wall-O-Politics. This is not a problem, this is not an epidemic.
As for the argument that it partly is the community's responsiblity to teach a child what is right and wrong, I agree to an extent. If I were to see a child running around screaming his/her head off and approach that child, the mother or (worse yet) the father might respond in a negative fasion. A question with this responsibility is, 'Should I get involved when I could just as easily be pointed out as the bad guy.' There are those parents out there that just don't want to be told how to run thier lives, (much like a minor), and abhore the thought of someone telling them how to raise thier child.
Another issue here is the fact that a lot of people claim 'Ignorance'. Ignorance does not work here. How many years has the ESRB been in effect, working for the education for the parents?
Over TEN years. This is no longer ignorance, this is 'Stupidity'. We can no longer claim ignorance as an attack on the Gaming Industry as there has been more than enough warnings, and attempts at teaching adults how to choose a game that is right for thier children.
Definately Cruel
Especially when it comes to great books like the "Foundation Series".
Sooner or later we will get to the point where it is a combination of extreme US anti-sex workings, and Germany's extreme anti-violence workins.
They should be enforcing this on everyone in Singapore if posting racist comments on a blog is 'illegal'. It's not fair for these two individuals to have thier doors knocked on and taken into custody for what maybe hundereds of other people have gotten away with. (Kind of like the RIAA lawsuits at first.)
This goes to show you how government can start a 'selective law enforcement' campaign.
This is effectively what will happen if Microsoft's site went down only on a smaller scale. Just because it was down for only for an hour in such a long span of time doesn't mean that it's extremely unusual.
Yes every site has it's hiccups, but Google is one that has been running for years and has been very successfull. Imagine the amount of money they must have lost from advertising.
Windows updates end up with so many different updates in so many little packages, that it's incredibly difficult for the average user to decide which ones to install. Average PC users don't even care to update so long as thier PC is running fine. Once there is a problem, then they look for updates.
In my opinion, there shouldn't be fines, shouldn't be blackouts, it's not fair to those who don't know what they are doing is the equivilant to being mentally incapable of understanding the situation in a courtroom.
It IS a security hazard, and I do admit that I don't appriciate having infected files sent to my e-mail, but if I can stop it, then I will on my own machine. Why go out there, and get other people angry because you are imposing on thier personal use of thier machine?
Strong companies, and personal computers that have people that are sane in this field should be able to defend it quite nicely. updated Anti-Virus, and a close look at files sent to the mail.
It's not that hard to say, "Hey! My grandmother doesn't know how to send attachments." or "Hey! I don't even belong to that organization!"
As far as I'm concerned, a virus infecting someone's network is thier own damn fault and they have to deal with the consequences.
This statement does have a spoiler in the story, make sure you read it at your own descretion. (Though anyone who hasn't gotten that far by now probably won't play through it enough to get there.)
Just realizing in the first place how close Cloud was to killing her in the first place brought me to a bit of shock. I couldn't believe that after all he had done with he along in the story (Especially if you use her during the fights), that he would even try that. I was glad when he backed down, but with a 5.1 sound system (though the PSX does not use 5.1) it scared the crap out of me when Sephiroth did the deed.
Who's crap is this?! Why can they get away with advertising it as 'UNLIMITED ACCESS' ("For one flat rate") with this legislation?!
Lawsuits inbound! False Advertising!
Oddly enough, the stores in my area aren't that bad. Employees are nice, and they do have the usuall ettiquit (Thanks, Come Again!, etc.)
Franchises are hard to say if they are all good or not, because here, it's definatly that these Best Buys are above average with customer service.
"The smart chip is dually engineered to prematurely register ink depletion and to render a cartridge unusable through the use of a built-in expiration date that is not revealed to the consumer," the suit said.
When are the good ol' days when things were just said to be out of date and we can't be responsible after that date?
FORCING a consumer to buy a new cartridge when it MAY be good even though this date is passed is basically forcing someone to buy a product that they already have. What if someone buys a bunch of these things to stock up and not worry about running out? A cartridge runs out, and the replace it, but the chip pops up claiming it's empty.. WTF?!

It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask permission....
In some cases...

So you don't belive that the ESRB should be here then?
I have no problem with letting people know what is in a game in the first place, I have a problem with it being regulated by that system.
Though of course the ESRB is not run by the government (at least I don't think it is...), I still believe that it should keep on what it is doing.

According to Princeton University's Dictionary stupidity is as follows: Noun
* S: (n) stupidity (a poor ability to understand or to profit from experience)
This seems like a poor ability to understand to me.
Definately Cruel Especially when it comes to great books like the "Foundation Series". Sooner or later we will get to the point where it is a combination of extreme US anti-sex workings, and Germany's extreme anti-violence workins.

Hell, I can't even do Paranoia (DDR USA) on Standard mode.... It's INSANE!

And they are trying to legalize it. Let the wierdo's play thier version of crack as it isn't actually hurting anyone but themselves.
Honestly, where's the "Right to be Stupid" act when you need it?
