Rags should make ad-free, for pay, RSS feeds of NY Times, Wall Street Journal, etc.
Make it deliverd to Blackberries and cellphones.
The cheap distribution costs make it financially possible to cut down on ads.
The key phrase, "spy on law-abiding citizens", is what spins this otherwise factual statement to the subjective.
With this added tid-bit, the reader can only conclude that this is a law to legalize CIA & FBI peeping Tom's. I'm pretty sure the intent is to spy on citizens that are potentially NOT abiding by the law.
While I don't agree with this law, I do have a problem with spinning the reporting to match my political group-think.
The Washington Post is reporting the next phase of American progress authorizing intelligence agencies to spy on law-abiding citizens without oversight.
How is it possible to carry on a rational, rhetoric-free debate when even the summary is riddled with such a subjective premise?
Where you got the arbitrary quantity '3' necessary to qualify my statement, I'll never know. This is all so subjective that I can't believe I'm dignifying this with a response.
Wal-Mart - gives out lots of earnings to good works, seems to treat its emplyees fairly Oreck Co. - just google for how much they helped their employees, post-Katrina Apple - gave us OS X and the iPod, how evil is that?
These are just off the top of my head. Sure, you may not AGREE with everything they do or how they compete, but on the whole they treat their customer's and employees fairly. I'm sure you can add to this list with very little effort.
Enough already. Not every corporation and institution with age > 10 years is evil. Saying all the old things are BAAAAD and corrupt is hippie talk. You don't want to be a hippie, do you?
Sony, looking to expand its product line, is selling the new $sys$Attack package to hackers.
Sharp criticism for this product inspired Sony to offer $sys$CounterAttack, $sys$Peekaboo, and $sys$Shields to private induhviduals and security experts.
A $sys$spokes-person for Sony, who wishes to remain anonymous, says these products are the precurser to the $sith$ branded products that will ensure peace and justice in the galaxy.
Neat. I never realized I have always done a quick mouse move to the bottom, followed by a slight move up to select a program in the taskbar. It has just become second nature to me from years of using windows.
I recently switched to Mac this summer, and just discovered I was doing this same un-necessary targeting action with the Mac menu bar (top instead of bottom of course).
Reminds me of the story about 'Johnny Crow' who was tied to the post so long that he didn't try to fly after being set free.:-)
Sadly, regular slashdot readers get the impression that the US is the heart of all that is evil and the UN/EU is a bastion of justice and peace.
Good point. Why don't you post as you (shouldn't get modded down for that)?

There are a lot of radio stations that could have the exact same effect: oldies, big band, country... :-)
What are the qualifications for being a "Domain Name Developer"?
I want to put that on my resume too.
...due to mismanagement of funds, the New Orleans Wi-Fi system will only be able to withstand a CAT 2 slashdotting.
Please read my other comments in which I express displeasure for this law. The issue I had was with the way the submitter spun the story.

Does it matter? It works now. Holding a grudge is so pointless.
What OS's out there support a breadth and depth of P&P devices comparable to Windows?
I've run Windows, FreeBSD, and now Mac OS X. I love my Mac, but there is no denying that Windows is the market leader when it comes to perrefrials.

The music industry would love to restrict the playing of CDs to stand-alone players.
However, because stand-alone players are simple and limited, they can not devise an effective system to keep CD media off personal computers.
Oh the irony!
...there are always stuff like this.
I am not affiliated with this company in any way.
...you support malaria, riots, and car-torching.
*'in future' repeated for emphasis
*Disclaimer: I'm not against OS vendors bundling stuff. IE was better than Netscape,
Is it just me, or does google's translation make just as much sense as the "English" version of the hacker's article.
Now you tell me we'd hafta cultivate the lunar dust? Thanks a lot!
Sorry. I didn't realize when I posted that the third word is also a rather crude verb. Again, sorry.
Um. WWJD doesn't stand for What Would Jack Daniels...
John Nash, is that you?
