I was with a friend that did major warez when a bust happened. They questioned me for 5 hours long while I was only there to go out to the disco that evening. (Apparantly the entire bust spoiled our weekend).
They take mousepads, monitors, systems, all floppy's and cd-roms and everything that hangs on a PC system. They also take away all money they find that could be as result of trading/selling warez.
They enter with 3 cops, somebody that notes everything down ("deurwaarder" in dutch) and 2 cops from internal affairs. The "deurwaarder" notes everything down that gets taken. Even stupid boxes get taken away, the rooms where being checked for evidence.
The guy now has to pay for over 50000 US$ to the BSA and needed to betray friends where he worked with or he would face jailtime (because he could not pay it).
3 weeks later they tried to check my house though I didn't had anything that was illegal; they did took a lot of writable CD's with them with personal pictures and sourcecode of programs I have written in that time. I am still waiting for them to get them back.
So far of being legal and still loosing a lot of yourself. They took my backups and personal pictures and never had them back.
If it was running Windows it would be crAshing... Seems to be running linux to get it crUshing...
Nice idea but wouldn't it be better to crush the cables instead of the webserver ? it would be physically disconnected as well without loosing that valuable material:)
I Still remember Thedraw, PCboard, Remote Access, Proboard and Frontdoor...
These where the times a 2400 baud was still enough and good programs where zipped or arj'd to a 200k file... I used to have my own board and ascii art on it for over 5 years. It was bliss though when the 14k4 and (the Zyxel) 19k2 came out:)...
Guess we'll never see that good time anymore code used to be clean and small instead of whistles-bells and unmaintained...

The Rose technology matrix switch to serve 1, 2 to 4 users is a quite good switch. Blackbox also distributes them as "their own" switch.
If you are in need with a new switch you should look to these because the switch has up to 40m support without quality loss of the image; can use a line extender up to 300m and has a exclusive feature to protect your ports by groups and users.
For example user A can access all servers while user B can only look to server 1 and 2, user C can control server 1, 3 and look to server 8 but not control it,....
It also has OSD and is expandable to more of these units.
The more-expensive unit (rack expandable) is expandable in any way.
Look at the pdf for more info.

Everything blackbox has is all another brand of switch with the blackbox logo on it and sold on higher prices. For example, their matrix switch to hold 2 users is a Rose-Technology switch. It took me a long time to find it what kind of switch they were using and they seem to use Minicom and Rose (mainly). The only difference is the price and the ugly black logo put on another product.

RIAA Smacked by DoS

... The RIAA will get the right to DOS a user trading music though who is actually affected most? the ISP delivering the connection or the user?
This way the entire thing will get another approach and also affects the backbones and ISP's. Do they need to find a ISP where they have legal status to DOS another (ISP's) user ?
... No I never click... I did it once and I got in a never-ending-loop. I got the page with some other ads, closed the ads and the other popup came back. Closed the site and the first popup got back together with three other windows...
No sympathy from forced advertising... it's like "swallow or die".. I do not prefer any of them.
The filtering company Smartfilter has found out sites not only need to be blocked for server-client but also client-server.
With this attempt this company tries to selectively filter out any attacks that take away massive network resources (also called the Slashdot Effect and Denial Of Service attacks).
With this move newssites that do not like filtering software will be blocked out to protect the valuable network resources.
... they can always add a Internet connection to the kiosk and check with the common cd databases (like cddb). If the CD is found it's probably a audio CD and they could ask more money to copy it or give a disclaimer about copying such cd's.
I am not against copying audio CD's but am also not for it; it's the best of both worlds it should happen for private usage but it should not happen for piracy.

Why not do traffic shaping as soon as you go over a certain limit?
2mbit normal and if you go over a certain limit you have 28k8 of 56k for a month or 3 months.
This way students will take care of their connection.

... just go outside and look for chalk markings in the form of a open circle on your walls!
There's your network ! Maybe they even mention the speed of it so you can be sure it's working fully.
At certain cities you have multiple persons checking for your network and it's all at no cost!
Obviously you need someone to clean that up now :)
The same happened with the name "ZKBOI" against the swiss bank "ZKB". Because ZKB (three letters) are inside that name "ZKBOI" got sued.
...
The case was won by ZKB but dropped after a few changes where made to the name. ZKboi is possible for example but not ZKBoi.

probably:
..
1. You press the button and say "dial one"
2. You press the button, muting the phone so you are able to do your voice command (like mute, volume,..)
3. You -need- to press the button to enter a command
That's exactly of what I think when messages are sent to outer space to contact any lifeform with mathematical facts and records

What makes a terrorist give his private (PGP) key to the government ? People sending illegal data won't be that stupid to send their own keys.
...
Is this a way so every transaction can be seen by the government ?
What if a PKI get's hacked, thousands of keys would be lying there on the street
It bothers me that "everything is for the sake against terrorism" though a lot of these laws do not apply to terrorists because they are lawless...
The only people that will be affected will be the citizens.
heey nice ... now they walk around with those brain-supporting games on the streets ...

(as if there are not enough dumb people walking/driving on the streets)
so not a lot to worry about the first 10 years
