    The point is that with DST, it stays lighter late. Theoretically, you would turn on your house lights later and thereby save energy. Overall, if everyone uses their lights less, energy consumption will be reduced. This made sense back in the 40's, but now I'm not so sure. Most people I know run their AC 24x7 whether they need it or not.

    1. I'm not laughing - no sense of humor. 2. I would venture a guess I saw it when you were in diapers, or maybe when you were a gleam in someone's eye :-) I tend to forget unimportant throwaway dialog from 27 year old movies. Anyway, according to one of those web based geek tests, I'm not much of a nerd, so sue me.

    The only people who seek the presidency (or really, any high political position) are crazy egomaniacs. Honestly, you'd have to be crazy. It's a no win position. No matter what you do you will be criticized by the left, the right, the center, other countries, aliens, pets, etc. Every decision you make will get second guessed. Out of the current crop of egomaniacs, I'll probably choose Kerry. He *seems* to have a grasp of the fact that the world is not black and white but a continuum of grey.

    That's market driven. Most Americans want automatic transmissions. Why should DaimlerChrysler spend money to provide manual transmissions when a majority of buyers of that type of car don't want one.

    The expensive Xenon/arc discharge lamps provide superior lighting at night - much better than any halogen bulb. However, the there is the price. SO the buyer needs to weigh improved safety vs. cost.

    Absolutely. I cut my OS teeth first on OS-9 6809 then OS9-68000 on an MM1. Not many people know about THAT machine. Had a UUCP server, Internet email, USENET newsgroups, etc running out of my house back in the early 90's.
