He made sure he could claim this as opinion. "I think these lawsuits are...." "I see this lawsuit as..." "I see that process as..." These are fairly obvious opinion statements, not statements of fact. If they were meant as statements of fact, he would not have prefaced them with "I think" and "I see". Instead they would read "These are..." "That is..." etc.
I had a Leatherman for several years and somehow lost it. Shortly afterwards I was in a situation where I needed a multitool *now* and the only one I could find on short notice was a Gerber. I like the Gerber better, mainly because the blades are on the inside of the fold, and that makes the grip more comfortable. The saw blade is nothing more than a standard jigsaw blade, thus you can change it out with any jigsaw blade from any hardware store for any purpose you need it for. The knife blade is a nice combination of smooth and serrated for fine cutting or box ripping, and it has all the quality of Gerber's famous line of knives.
Actually, this is a pretty valid point. Most (if not all) multiplayer games like Quake, Everquest, etc are unplayable with orbital lag. I had an ISP in the past that used a satellite link, and ping times to game servers were far too high to play. If any major portion of the internet ever gets routed this way, it could spell the end of multiplayer gaming on the internet.
I agree. Give them the pipe and let them use their own computer. You did not say what country this house is in, but if it is in the USA you would be protecting yourself from a potential lawsuit that way. IANAL, but the way the courts work these days I wouldn't be suprised if you couldn't be sued on the grounds that your hardware is to blame for all that kiddie porn/mp3s/etc/wrote a virus/failed to pay 10 million Nigerian dollars/etc/etc/etc.
What operating system are you running? How long do you need to keep each days data? Does it need to be stored offsite? Is this data security sensitive?
An extra hard drive and cron works wonders on a Linux or Novell server. I assume the task scheduler and a set of.bat files on a Windows server would work similarly. Make directories on the backup HD corresponding to day of week/month and automate a job to copy the data to the appropriate backup directory. Automate a job to tar/gzip or zip said backups. Automate a job to FTP those zip files to a remote server. Hard drives are dirt cheap, and with the tiny amount of data you are talking about you could hold a whole years worth of backups on a $70 dollar hard drive. Need redundancy? Do the same process to yet another machine with another $70 hard drive. Never buy a tape or CD-RW media again. Never worry about backups again. Set it and forget it. Have the backup machine(s) email you the results of each night's backup just to be sure they happened. Make a test file on the server and delete it and restore it every so often to ensure you can recover last data. Burn monthly to a CD-R for even better sleep at night.
I had 5 of the little Shuttle systems. 1 is still working, the rest are basically junk now. When these systems were functional, they were just plain loud. Given your list of requirements, I would *not* recommend the Shuttles. I was very dissapointed with them.
I'm responsible for 250+ PC's and a dozen servers. Over the last couple of years I have bought literaly hundreds of sticks from Crucial. Never a single bad chip, never a compatability issue, never any problem whatsoever. Period.
The HP 4 Plus. Got a few in the company, a couple approaching a page count of one *million*. Sure, they've had a new fuser or two in them, maybe a roller here and there, but when you have a printer that can churn out a million pages and show no signs of dying? That's what I call quality. Added bonus, anyone? Every weird and proprietary software package I've ever seen can print to them. Throw in a Jet Direct card, set up all the workstations to use TCP/IP for direct printing, and forget about printing problems.
Well, if you had watered and fertilized your BSD, and planted it where it would get enough sunlight, it wouldn't be dying. Try replanting it on the south side of your house, and give it a little Miracle Grow fertilizer and plenty of water and it'll be fine.
It's pretty sad when the friggin people who RUN slashdot don't READ slashdot. Hey Taco, change the icon on this one to a copying machine, because it's a duplicate post:-)
I think they should start a new topic area, maybe with a copying machine for an icon. Then put all of timothy's posts in there from now on. Maybe an annual awards ceremony each year (The Slashy Awards) and Most Dupes could be a catagory.
I'v never heard of a "fujuan", but Turkish coffee is usually brewed with an ibrik.

Is Vegas taking bets on how long before a laptop with the whole friggin' database is "misplaced"?
*My* cube has a hole in it; it's where the the power, monitor, mouse, etc cords come thru the desktop.

Perfect for the cube, you can make a cube-shaped kitty!
Seriously, you think that's ok?
Yes.

But this technology could be used to reduce friction on an abacus, making it faster!
A picture of the goatse.cx guy with the caption "This will be you if you don't stop faxing me"
How long is Everquest, Ultima Online, etc? What do these "endless" games do to the graph?
Dunno about you, but I don't pee on my hands.

Dunno about RV use, but it's called a Fresnel lens, most common use I've seen is in overhead transparency projectors

I don't sleep nearly as well without the background humming of a PC or two, or a window fan, some kind of white noise.
Hell, I'll admit prior art, and I've got timestamped files and keyboard residue to prove it!
