It seems like some strong collective bargaining could knock the wind out of a lot of these huge layoff situations. Especially the ones driven by outsourcing strategies. There definitely needs to be an international angle to it though.
It's going to be easy to just ignore both patent and copyright. All you have to do is buy the product as a Chinese import. No inconvenient IP in any of the products or its components. US corporations will be happy to continue to import "finished" goods from China without greatly reduced costs of labor and no IP costs. It will help them compete better.
Also, several soon to be acquired products from Macromedia use javascript (ECMAScript) as a development platform. Much of Dreadmweaver's interface is controlled and extensible through javascript. Additionally, ActionScript 2.0 in Flash is directly based on ECMAScript.
A single US/International patent combo can cost upwards of $40,000.00 dollars in filing fees and legal fees. Good luck getting this off the ground. Open source software has this bad habit of not generating a lot of revenue for the creators.
I don't think it has a whole lot to do with them not caring about you. It's more that they make a lot more money off of accounts that have large balances. They get to put those reserves to use. They pass along some of the savings because it makes them more competitive.
Any expense the bank incurs on a low balance account hits the profit from that account much harder.
Yes, but wouldn't it just be a hoot to see everybody squirm?
I can't see how they can be thrown in jail for deciding to no longer support their products in a particular geographical region.
I don't think it would actually get that far anyway. The business community in the EU would go nuts and probably force the issue one way or the other very quickly.
While I'm not a big fan of M$, I think they can pretty much just get their way. They could just say "Drop the lawsuit, or we stop all supporting and licensing activities in the EU effective tomorrow."
(I'm secretly hoping they do this. Think of the adoption rate of Linux then)
If they embedded the current flash player in the Yahoo toolbar, I don't think there would be a problem. Heck, they could even make the Yahoo toolbar a fancy flash app.
It'll be decades before Americans feel good about France again. I half expected Chirac to lick his finger and stick it in Bush's ear, just to irritate him one more time.
I would use a different word than "terrorise" to describe what "shock and awe" was intended to do. I think of "Shock and awe" as the visible presence of overwhelming, insurmountable force. You are trying to put the idea into the enemy's head that attacking would be both futile and pointless. If it worked, it would save both lives and money on both sides. Of course, few things in war are rational.
A terrorist is someone who will decapitate an elementary school teacher to get your country to stop selling beer on Sundays. They target non-combatants.

Right on. The only company worth working for and "sharing the vision" is the one you own. Other than that, cash works just fine.
And a circular monitor as well. Seriously, whoever thought that a transparent interface would be a good thing must have a screw loose.

[end heavy sarcasm]
I agree. That's reason enough to ditch Itunes.

It doesn't help that the likes of Google have been redefining the therm 'Beta' to mean production version that we don't want to commit to supporting.

I hear the Tribbles make a cameo appearance.
I haven't purchased OR downloaded a single piece of music in the past 3 years. I just listen to CSPAN all day long. ;)

My copy of Firefox is running @ 35 megs.
Flash apps can be made section 508 compliant. You just need good developers and a bigger pot-o-gold.

This doesn't look like they've been having rough times to me.
If the ATM is in the US, it should just default to English.
Thanks, I was trying to be funny. I guess I needed to add more smiley faces. :) B) ;)
Please. Roughly half of all Americans are complete idiots. (You decide which half)

a) The US should just make the lease on the building equal to the annual dues. That way, they would always be paid up.
b) Let the French take care of the next one.
c) Withdraw any troops (the money is already taken care of by a) and let them pass whatever security council resolutions they want.
If I had mod points I would definitely mod that funny. Thanks for the chuckle.
Man, that's sad. She's not even bothering to fake it.
