    ... is to be a business that sells hardware and then provides software as a service to its customers. Especially in this position it is easy to open source things since you don't really make your income from the software but the hardware that you use it with.

    That's the 'badmouth' list, the 'goodmouth' list contains SCO and Microsoft. Saying anything bad about people on the badmouth list or good about people on the goodmouth list is a good way to get modded -1.

    At least from my perspective an "Other" of 5% means that the thing has a margin of error of at least 4.5 and possibly up to 5.4. This means that Windows XP is the only OS on the list that can be 'accurately' ranked because the other numbers are so close that they are within the margin of error. Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if 4% of that 5% is something like visitors using Konquerer (or one of the many other available Linux browsers) and Google doesn't understand the version information.

    I want to get paid for my effort/time/expertise. I can't afford to be altruistic until I don't have to worry about making mortgage payments any more.

    Some people do programming projects because they enjoy them, not everyone requires payment. Just like some people participate in sports for enjoyment (though in this country that is declining), not everyone requires a 10 mil salary just to play sports.

    Sounds like a good $10 privacy project to me. I see the popularity of magazines specializing in these projects in the future, just like Popular Electronics and Radio Electronics were in the 70's.

    Can't remember exactly the context, but this is especially relevant since congress said you can do mess with your car since you bought it.

    Why would I want to download SP2 for Mac or Linux? Normally I could so downloading it on another machine if you don't have access to the internet where you want to install it. Honestly, if the machine you want to install it on doesn't have access to the internet then why do you need the security changes of SP2?

    Only if you can edit your own DNS records, most management tools only allow modification of A, MX, and CNAME records. For this to really take off the tools need to add support for TXT records.

    The argument could be made that folks with enough cabbage to purchase a $2k+ Macintosh have greater access to funds that the poor schmo who can only buy some sub $800 PC system which, in my mind, reflects on their access to education.

    So what about linux people that spend 2-5K just on processors?
