Yep, it just restarts. Ever been running a bittorrent and walk away when all of a sudden your computer restarts? Realtek or whatever Ethernet cards decide that it should just self destruct and restart your computer.
Sorry, i'd rather have an "uh oh, ethernet decided to die!" error message than just a random restart. Although the blue-screen didn't help me too much with my bittorrent problem: just caused my mom to yell at me: "HELP THE COMPUTER IS DESTROYING ITS MEMORY!"

R1 come quite soon New name, to prevent the theft of Palm's bought IP
In other words, a.BFS i386 install disc is coming soon, (I asked the OpenBeOS IRC people, and they kinda looked at me funny when I asked for any isos, since BeOS doesn't support that), but R1 will support i386 only, then R2 will hopefully support more architectures. I'm not with the Haiku people, so YMMV.
Palm bought out Be's IP, so the name "BeOS" belongs to them, hence the need to switch to "Haiku".
Mostly because of the cost. I bought an eMac last year, mostly because of how OSX looked, and then there's Panther, which costs enough to cause me to think twice before upgrading (still havent). Then there's the myraid of programs that I have but *shouldn't* (yarrr), like Photoshop, Office v.X, Roxio Toast, etc, etc, these are far too fancy for my needs, and should cost well over the price of my computer. Then theres open source, the Gimp, OpenOffice.org, and _insert cd burning software here_, are above and beyond my needs and *free*, so I dont have to pirate. Which is why I'm selling my Mac, and building a Linux (or possibly FreeBSD)-based i386 PC. The Free-As-In-Beer Software aspect really sold me, and then I'll probably learn to do stuff like modify code later on.
Apple does have a neat feature that I'll be missing after I switch to Linux, it has a spell-check service available to any program, so even my instant messaging client has spell check.:P
Yeah, if we had the source code, we could edit out those annoying movie ads that download unwanted, and then blast through people's speakers. Adware, not Freeware is the best word to describe AIM.
Additionally HP-UX, Linux, NetApp NetCache, Solaris and recent releases of FreeBSD cycle back to zero after 497 days, exactly as if the machine had been rebooted at that precise point. Thus it is not possible to see a HP-UX, Linux or Solaris system with an uptime measurement above 497 days.
The *BSDs is very neat, and will probably be my OS of choice on my next computer (selling my mac and either getting a laptop or desktop PC), but lets not get carried away;)
Another Control that has me not even thinking about Windows for my computer (I'm selling my eMac and building/buying a x86 Desktop/Laptop) is Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
I'm just so tired of pushing it.:(
I dont know about places like Brazil, but for me, personally, OSS is all about the cost. Sure, I can get a copy of Windows for $0, illegally, but I dont want to pirate (its their product, they can do with it what they like), so I look to Linux/*BSD/etc, where the creators of the code *want* me to use their programs freely, and I wont get junk as in other free-as-in-beer software (for example, it wouldn't be tolerated to put spyware in an OSS application, and if someone did put it in, another person could easily take it out, unlike company-owned freeware such as Kazaa)
To me, being able to hack at the code is nice and all, but the thing that is making me switch from Mac is really the cost. Although someday I'll probably want to hack at that code.:)

Hooray for destroying the different studios within Sega! Hoopefully they got rid of that pesky Smilebit, with their hip attitude and fun games, they might bring shame to Sonic Team!
I dont see how one studio will be able to keep track of all the different games that the old ones were making. I mean, whether they're in 10 buildings or 1 shouldn't make a difference, but I can bet that they'll get rid of a lot of the redundant positions ("Six producers!? One is enough to make pachinko machines!")
I'm just bitter.

Nope! I was just in a local computer shop, and they say that they build their laptops themselves, and although they come with Windows, I asked them if I could get a discount for no OS being installed, and they said they'd get me $100 (Canadian) off.
I'm thinking of getting a cheap Linux laptop after I sell my eMac (a low end Apple, not an emachine).
ANYWAYS, just looking on Linux-Laptop.com, any tips and traps anyone can give me on what distros/models of laptop/ are good for Linux? (does gentoo has some power consumption problems of some sort?) Thanks!

Ugh, stupid cell phones. While this is a neat idea, I keep mine on vibrate, just because I know how annoying a music ringtone is when its someone elses.
He's comparing the numbers (16 million to nil) of the GBA vs the PSP. So what? There was millions of NESs when the Genesis took over, and millions of SNESs when the PSX started dominating, even if it was expensive at the time.
I don't think they understand the threat of the PSP, this is the 2D->3D jump in handhelds, and they look like they'll be over in the corner preaching to the Nintendo choir as Sony again grabs the attention of mainstream gamers.
If *BSD is dying, why do you feel the need to post this in *every* BSD story? Shouldn't you just ignore it and let it go away?

I'm thinking something along the lines of Apple times 10. But, they insist on using proprietary hardware and software.
