  1. Re:Security? on Windows Wireless Networking Flaw Identified · · Score: 5, Insightful

And suppose he doesn't want to have to worry about securing his wireless network if all he uses it for is checking the news on his laptop? Little scroats like you who think it's helpful to mess around with other people's equipment should be shot.

If you're capable of doing that, why didn't you just print off something telling him his network was unsecure, include your phone number and offer to go over and sort it out for him? Let me guess, you're about 13 years old?

I'm unfortunate enough to have one of those WRT54G access points, and due to a hardware flaw I can't run it with WEP *OR* WMA *OR* MAC filtering. I need to get a replacement, but right now I don't have the time to sort it out. So it's unsecured (but I did change the admin password.)

What you need to do is try to help other people, rather than lord it over them. This is why anyone that works in IT is treated like shit, because end users assume we hate them and won't do anything to help.

Get a life, and to hell with my karma.

  5. Re:I hate ABS...sometimes on High-tech Cars Replacing Driver Skill? · · Score: 1

True, but the main reason people have accidents on straight stretches of road is because they're not braking hard enough, regardless of ABS or not.

Believe me, in an emergency situation with no was out, I'd rather be pushing the brake pedal as hard as I possibly can, if necessary locking all 4 wheels than arsing around with cadence braking.

It's a moot point anyway, because my current car has emergency brake assist, and now all I do is stamp on the brake pedal and let the computer sort out the complicated bit for me. It's quite cool, the pedal goes down another inch and you can feel the ABS through the pedal.

I have to disagree with this. When I was younger, I used to read books with them about 6 inches from my face. My parents were concerned and took me to an optometrist who told them that my vision was perfect, and reading that close wouldn't do me any harm at all as long as it was comfortable.

What you need to do is stop every 15 minutes for 30 seconds or so and let your eyes relax and focus on a distant object. (ie, out of the window.) You might find that it helps a lot.

If you discovered you have astigmatism, surely the optometrist would have advised glasses at the time if necessary?

I have no problem independently looking out of one eye or the other, and can consciously "switch" between them. You just concentrate on looking out of one eye, and I don't see why anyone can't do it, unless they suffer from double vision or whatever.

I think the issue is that although they say it creates the illusion of a giant screen, it still manages to give users one helluva headache despite the optical distance correction. I can't see that problem being solved in the near future, and would advise that you steer clear.
