    once intel really puts some muscle behing the 64 bit desktop i'm sure we'll start to see loads of new apps compiled for the platform... aside from your os and rare app... games could have a lot to benefit from the extra performance and amd's line has been very well received (and is currently embarassing intel)... it's still nice to know you can do something super fast with your 64's

    chip manufacturers have been so eager to take the focus off the clock speed (amd+intel using new "model numbers") this type of thing injects thats much more logic into their reasoning if they start to embrace this type of approach... things like cache size and performance benchmarks may eventually be significantly more imporatnt even from a marketing perspectave that how many ghz you can cram into a chip without having it melt through the socket it's embedded in...

    i guess there really isn't an issue of cost in a communist nation but there would be some other areas that have a greater potential payoff for the chinese... alternative energy reasearch, growing the econemy and their infrastructure or a decent population management plan would be way ahead of shooting people into space... (unless that's their population management plan :) )

    i've never actually rendered a disc inoperable by scratching it... melting, cracking, impaling, yes... but still no scratches... this would probably be more cost effective for expensive things like pda/cell phone screens that are constantly exposed and expensive to replace...

    will probably upgrade to a dual layer soon... being able to buy the top rated burner for under $70 is pretty amazing... unfortunately $70 will only get you about 2 dual layer dvdr's... looks like burner prices won't be the deciding factor in when i upgrade.

    there is probably a long list of vendors that will hold out to the very end on making decent open source drivers available... you can be sure any co with strong ties to ms will not play this game unless there is clear incentive (profit, from more product being sold to the linix community) and that is probably very hard to measure...

    if infants can crack language, who not complex mathimatical problems. math is just a different language... it would be pretty interesting if more studies were done on different abstract forms of communication and how infants respond to them.

    any techie who's worth his salt will tell you that when it comes to protecting data, doing everything in your power meand redundancy, off site backups, and hard copies if possible...

    is risking democracy worth the slight time/cost savings of going digital???

    the problem for most users is they are intimidated by the rediculous amoutn of choice they have when picking a distro...

    with windows and osx it's not too complicated you get the most current version and it will "work"

    all linux distros sound nice until you install them and really see for yourself what their strengths and weaknesses are...

    with win/mac there is no coice... they do what they do and anybody who isn't using the one you're using is an idiot...

    most people just don't have the time or patience to try any distro unless it's on a livecd (knoppix/suse...)

    i'll put my cards on the table... i've never been a big fan of macs (maybe it's just the users i know that bug me) but i would definitly give it a try if they ported it to x86...

    you can be sure that before long all my fav windows apps would be running on the mac so it would eventually just come down to quality of the os.... could actually be a toss up between osx and longhorn..
