Windows kicks Linux's ass in terms of usability and GUI refinements

See I would regard this as an understatement. For most common desktop usage windows splatter linux all over the pavement. On my PC I can load openOffice under windows 10 seconds faster than under linux, and thats still a good 10 secs slower than word which is a lot better (yes i know it technically loads when you sign on or whatever but really who cares?)

Based on some of the comments you guys have I can either assume that most people here have either never used windows (in which case they beleive its still as shoddy as win3.1) or have never used linux (but they want to look clever so spout drivel about it)

Anyway to return to the point nothing in linux land looks even as remotely eye pleasing as winXP and although macOSX has a perrrty scrolly thing it does get old sooner or later and you notice how substandard the rest of OS looks.
Right that was very purgative..thank you for your time :)

Your "Ogg player" is described thusly on the product webpage :- "The first MP3 digital audio computer built to manage, broadcast, and expand your digital music world. With Neuros, your digital music experience keeps evolving"

Why? Because only a hand full of people use ogg, its part of the mental snobbery and one upmanship that is ridiculously prevalent in this so called "Community". Why dont you guys quite being such dorks and join the real world? When you hand over that wicked track on cdr to your mate down the pub theyre not gonna think "Wow! this guys smart, he's using a free (as in speech) audio format, what a swell guy!" Rather theyre gonna think, "oh crap i hate it when that guy whinges on about that younixks thingy i'll just smile and bin the cdr without bothering to find out how to play it"

Wow that was a long rant!

  18. It looks somewhat sparse on Collaborative Online Textbook Project · · Score: 1

I had a looka t this and being a maths graduate as of 2 weeks on wednesday I can say it looks pretty useless. A list of definitions isn't what makes a good textbook, what is needed is good worked examples and a sensible set of excercises which can demonstrate how to use the definitions in various contexts. Devoting 4 pages to calculus just really won't cut it, even first year maths undergrads generally buy a copy of Adams which is a book on calculus which is A4 sized and some 600-700 pages in length. That doesnt really go into multivariate calculus either.

Making a textbook i imagine must be hard work, putting together the necesary set of examples and excercises as well as adding a little verbosity to make the definitions, theorems and proofs a little more understandable will probably take months or even years even for an experienced maths graduate.

I guess thats why only maths professors find the time to do it :)
