I delete all history and cookies and cache each time I log out. Although I like the technical aspect of tracing me and showing advertisement, as a consumer and user I detest it.
I detest it more than I like it. Or like Banksy says: People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply youâ(TM)re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.
You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.
Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. Itâ(TM)s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.
You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially donâ(TM)t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, donâ(TM)t even start asking for theirs.
I believe it does depend on what country you are in.
So what provider does fight for their customers? I know of XS4All in The Netherlands, but that is about it. Any of the larger ones in any other countries. (and not your provider that is actually a reseller).
Please also make a difference between a (quad-)copter and an rc aircraft. 4 hours flight with an aircraft is nothing special. It has been done many times. 4 hours with a quatcopter is an achievement, because normaly it is about 15 minutes.
So even if people pirate less waht does that mean for the sales numbers?
Did they increase, because people absolutely want the content, regardless? Did it stay the same, because people who pirate are not willing to pay, no matter what? Did it decrease, because people use pirate software as a test to see if they like it and now are unable to make a choice?
I have a 52" TV. It is as smart as the PC it is connected to. Basically it is a big monitor. I paid 500EUR for it lasy year. Sure, it isn't 4K, but that I do not (yet) need for a TV.
If I needed a seperate PC for it, I could easily add a RaspPi to it and use that. Or any other solution I desire. I tried the 'smart' part of it and it was pretty stoopid. There was nothing I could not do already with the downside of not being able to do more.
It started much sooner. Before Internet there were ads. The differende we now have the ability to block them. This was not possible before with billboards and other media.
Yes, you could go to the kitchen when adds came on tv. You could change the channel when they came on on the radio. Now we have t he ability to really block them.
The reason this is done is because people do not want them. I do not want them on the Internet. I do not want them on TV. I do not want them in the streets. I do not want them on my clothes, not on my car, not on anything.
I... DO... NOT... WANT... ADS.
"but then companies won't be able to do this and that." So? That does not change the fact that i do not want them.
If companies have the right to show ads. I have the right not to see them. The moment they force me to see them means they are forcing things upon me, or as Bansy says it best:
âoePeople are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. Adding "for apps" seems to be the new "on the Internet". Replace it "with cars" or "with tools" and then it becomes obvious that SOME precautions should be taken. e.g. you nake seatbelts that are not too hard to use. You add some safety on a chainsaw.
You indicate what weight something can carry if it can carry anything.
So the answer should be "DUH!" The real question is how much is reasonable. If you put a warning in font size 4 in white on a white background it is not enough.
The discussion could even be about what the dault is for a button and what the questioning is. That in such a way that each time yoy select "No" the No is on the right and it will stop whatever you want. Not Yes/No and then No/Yes and then again No/Yes where the first you must answer Yes, then NO and then Yes to go through.
There wil be a lot of other things possible. Most could be answered by 'ease of use' and 'ergonomics'.
Does that mean that there will be no problems? No, but if you show some reasonable efford, you get very far already.
Everybody is missing the "if the power comes back on". That means we are talking about things that are electronic and can be stored for a LONG time. What you need to consider is more rust and material decay.
Metal? That will rust, so after a while you will not be able to just plug it in an electric source. Vacuum, like in a lamp, will most likely not exist after a while, also due to rust.
You PC? Let it stand and rust and oxisation will kill it when not used. Anything with batteries? They are dead even sooner.
So either a lap, an LED or a simple coil for heating. Thick enough and it would need a lot of power even now to do the heating.
My guess is that there would be things that when plugged in after 2 ceturies will still work. After that? With some cleaning.
And tthe 4 out of 48 is a VERY BAD selling point, regardless if they are right or wrong. The reason is that when I am in an accedent, my first priority is not if I wasd right, but if I was safe.
"He had right of way" is a lousy engraving for your thombstone.
Italso makes me believe that they are not yet ready. What needs to be know is how people would have reacted. For all I know I would have known the other driver was drinking out of a wiskey bottle and I thus stay well clear of him.
Don't want to follow the rules of a country? Don't do business there. And I can still buy outside of Europe and the others do not need to know anything.
It is just a bit harder for me to get my products as I need to pay (or hope that customs let them slip by)
The issue here is that there are no goods deliverd, only services. As a service is a product as well, there is no reason to exclude them from the taxes.
So yes, I see it as normal what they are doing and how people are going to manage this is not really an issue. This is not about companies doing 1000AUS business per year. I am sure a bit could be used to employ somebody to do it.
Or perhaps somebody here is samrt enough to sell it as a service to those companies.
My take on it that I want to have encryption, because I can. Even if each and every crime is solved. Even if each and every hacking is cught and convicted. Even if justice is served 100% of the time and correctly on top of that.
Even then I would want to be able to encrypt without any questions asked as to why I want to do that.
My freedom of speach does not require an excuse. My right to privacy should top that. It is the first and most primal right, so obvious it wasn't even mentioned anywhere.
Why do I want encryption? Because FUCK YOU, that is why and it should be reason enough.
I realy love it that people say "just vote differently" when there is no real choice.
And yes, if there is so much smoke, you better start looking for the fire. Yes, it IS that bad. What I see on shows like COPS is obviously not the average. However of those almost each and everyone of the incidents I see would mean that somebody will be fired because of abuse of power.
Just look at how the 4 Swedish police officers in New York handled the situation. They were unarmed and were calmly holding the subjects. If this were the NYPD, do you think they would have handled it the same way, or would they have used much, much more force?
And if you need politicians to change behaviour of humans, you know that things are wrong.
Using a washer and air drying. I tried a drier once and I do not see any added value in using one. All I ever heard from people was what Markting had told them. Basicaly a lot of hot air. (See what I did there?)
It reminds me of buying bottled water when your tap water is perfectly healthy to drink and in all but the exceptional cases. That means if you use icecubes, you can drink it and you do not need to buy bottled water.
(This will be used as an excuse for marketeers to sell you icecubes in a box from Peruvian waterfalls for the low price of 7.88USD per 100cubes)
It would either be "We block it everywhere in Europe" or "We block it nowhere". Remember that it wasn't Gernany who woke up one day and said" Let's block some video's. It was brought to court and the courts decided that this is what the law required.
So this would mean a change of law.
More interesting would be to see how this will affect (neo-)nazi content in Germany that they see as yelling fire in a movie-theater. (And this is not aboutif that is right or wrong.)
Whatever that change will be, it will not be in favour of the end user. It will just be against patent trolls.
In Europe you can take public transport if you are not rich. In Europe a taxi is a luxery.
People who were not persuaded by marketing, like me.
I delete all history and cookies and cache each time I log out. Although I like the technical aspect of tracing me and showing advertisement, as a consumer and user I detest it.

Give it to the NSA, so they have even more power to abuse? Great idea, Sherlock.
If there are unmaned drones, that means there are manned drones as well. I never knew that. To me a drone was always unmaned.

IIt is porbably that hacker 4chan again.
Reminds me of the audio files that were put online where people were sending their login and passwords. Fun timesto get those.

What has the Taxi Lobby to do with this? They are not a company that provides Taxi service, or so they claim.
