Nobody says after years of work in the strawberry fields, "Gee, I'm sure glad I got the opportunity to explore my full human potential in that career!"
Yeah, all they moan about is how they could feed their family. It sounds like those complaining people who were screwing in the backlights in Fords. We realy made them happy by replacing them by robots.
Mny people are not hackers or programers and give as excuse that they are non-technical and thus can not contribute. However there are many ways to contribute.
* Make a level for your favorite game and contribute it back to the maker * Make a skin for you favorite program that uses skins * Make Icons, wallpapers or any art for whatever you desire * Translate website and manuals to your language * Beta test software as a simple user * Burn distributions for those who can't * Have your bittorent upload your favorite distribution all the time * Tell the maker of smaller programs that you use it, or even a simple thank you
The last will encourage the maker to keep maintining the program. Not all help needs to be directly, or even technical. Just telling people you use OSS is enough. If enough people tell this, at some point it will catch on. It is word of mouth.
I have written a manual and it was pretty good. It was not to thick to be boring, yet contained all basic solutions for about 80% of the problems.
New customers would be angry if they did not recieve the manual. Yet when they phoned in a few days later and you asked if they had recieved the manual, the answer was ALWAYS: yes, but I didn't have time to read it. I want a solution NOW.
Me: Sure, as we explained on page 2,.... Problem solved in about 1 minute if not faster.
I have spoken to other people who have written manuals and they come to the same conclusion. The majority of people do not read them and those who do just do it so they can look if there is not the smallest of errors and bugger you about it.
Manuals. Doomed if you do make them, doomed if you don't. Just don't think anybody will ever read them, ever.
Thanks to GPLv3 all people who are with Linux because they hate Microsoft will leave. Great move guys. Let's make GPL even stricker, so nobody remains.
I am a software user, not a licence user. I don;t give a flying fork about licences. I am not interested in licences. I did not even read the GPL, neither the BSD or Vista or whatever licence that comes with my software.
I want to use software. I want to make software for others. As long as it isn't public domain, a licence is a restriction to what I can do with it, otherwise why have a licence and not just put it under public domain.
Well, there is a reason for those five pages. The site was restricted originaly by speed of the internet, but then it was moved to another server. The team continued with plans for five at the new location. In the rush to complete the project, there was simply no time to change the design.
That governement is elected by the people. I agree that not ALL of the American people are bad, but there are not good enough ones to elect a better governement.
To me the American People is the same as the American People. As slashdot shows, there are many individuals that do not agree with whatever is going on.
Banks invest in industries. If poluting industries make more then non-poluting, then banks will invest in those.
So I would say they depend on it a lot. If poluting companies would be paying for the cleanup, then non-poluting industries would become a better choice for those banks. As a side effect poluting companies suddenly "see" that non-poluting is the way to go.
This all obviously can only be done if the govenement of a big player, like China or the USofA play along and force those companies to do so.
Don't forget to take out any code put in the kernel, KDE and GNOME and other projects made by people that are payed by Novell. Put your money where your mouth is.
Something I read comes to mind. Linux has to be perfect 120%. It has to do all things and more flawlessly with no efford, yet if things go wrong with windows, those same people who ask for a flwless Linux before even trying it say "Well, that is just computers. These things happen."
Ask the average user what he wants and most of them could be working with Linux right away, because all their demands are met (and then some)
However what people do is look at what they have and then ask for the same, not look at the need
In Belgium you officialy need to pay for music on your answeringmachine, hence the hidious classical music you hear often.
A company I worked for had a musician who gave them an album that was free of rights, so we did not have to pay. It was better then most stuff that you DO pay for.
The reason you have to pay is because it is seen as broadcasting to a public.
It is YOUR fault you do not want to work for the same wage as illegal immigrants do. Do not blame somebody else for taking your job. Blame yourself.

I hope they have something about gravity, because I would love to see what happens if the majority voted against it.
(No, I do not RTFA)
This is not about wether you can. This is about wether you are allowed to and how easy it is to do so.
I can kill people, but that does not make it legal. I can't fly to the moon, but that does not make it illegal.
Go behind the curtain
Anonymous monkey obviously knows where his towel is.
yes, privacy works all directions, not just in the direction you want it to.
In Belgium it is forbidden to give out any information, even to the police, unless there is a court order.

RMS, why do you hate Linux so much?

Ok. How about Micro Soft?
Try making a supermarket called Microsoft. OTOH we have these two

In short: Screw Haliburton!
This is good news for me and many people here. As long as I am fat, I am not old.
That was not after, that was during. If anything, the hijacking made an end to traditional airplane hijacking where people try to negotiate.
Look at the plus side: you don't need a national ID card anymore.

Here is novelty idea. Why not use a searchengine to find those pages and then report them to Google.
