That's the Peter principle - everyone is promoted to the level of their incompetence.

  5. Physical money will never go away on Elon Musk: Bitcoin Structure is Brilliant, But Has Its Cons; Paper Money is Going Away (ark-invest.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

If he means money made of paper, then he's probably right, but wrong otherwise. There's plenty of people who don't, won't, or can't have a credit card and more who wouldn't have a personal computing device to do their daily transactions with.

  6. Knowing there's a microphone in an Internet connected device and still buying it is something that people make a conscious decision to do - but if you don't know there's a microphone then the company just saying it was an error isn't enough.

  7. Just reusing the boxes would meet their target.

  8. The Norse deities would probably be quite pleased by their appearance in comics, which are pretty much modern day sagas.

During an interview I'd realised I didn't want the job, so when they sprang an unexpected programming test on me I asked them for the project plan and the business case behind it. They said it was to check how well I could program, I replied that I want to check how well they're organised and what their policies were. It went on like that for a few minutes until the interview ended.

  10. Re:I doubt we can predict it on Ask Slashdot: What Could Go Wrong In Tech That Hasn't Already Gone Wrong? · · Score: 1

So much that's listed was predictable but there's always a rush to production and to be first, and you don't get to do that by making sure everything works.

  16. With lists like this there's not enough definition of the roles for it to be a meaningful comparison. Cancer is being detected and treated at earlier stages, so it's possible to have a similarly misleading title that says Cancer in America is Way Up. What the story is really about is that deaths from cancer is falling, particularly for people who can afford better treatment, which often requires time away from work.

  19. Re:Same for the US, sort of on Video Games Now Account For More Than Half of UK Entertainment Market (independent.co.uk) · · Score: 1

  20. So TV, film, music, and everything else is less than the 50 of the "entertainment market" (whatever that may be)? I would have thought the millions who watch TV programs outnumber the gamers, not the other way around.
