Yeah, they had a ton of celebrity endorsements for the Amiga back in the day...

I remember watching a video at Software Etc. / Babages that had B.B. King and Andy Warhol using their Amiga computers to create art and music. After seeing that, I knew I had to have one. :D

This whole thing makes me a bit nostalgic and sad at the same time as I am reminded how something once great was lost to corporate greed... :-/

People should realize that the PC's at the time were 286's with cga/ega graphics and a PC speaker for sound that only had DOS.

  12. Alien senses on Television For an Audience 45 Light Years Away · · Score: 1

One of the other problems that might occur is the possibility that the recieving aliens don't have the same sensory organs/functions that we do. Even if they found a satelite of ours with an audio recording, what good would it do if they didn't have the ability to detect/interpet sound waves the same way we do? The same could be said for visual recordings. They might not 'see' the same spectrums of light that we do and not be able to see anything on a screen. For all we know, they could only hear magnetic waves and only see sound waves.

Its funny how arrogant mankind is in thinking that any alien species would be anything like him.

First contact will most likely come without any warning and huge communication and culture barriers will occur.

Hopefully both parties will have the patience and understanding to make it work.

  15. Like StarWars they should have made a prequel on Spaceballs Animated Series in Production · · Score: 1

To be in line with what Lucas did with StarWars, they should have made a Spaceballs prequel.

Perhaps they could have called it something like:

Spaceballs Episode 0: Attack of the Clone of the Phantom Prequel

It could have featured how Scroub met Dark Helmet.

Perhaps Dark Helmet being a student of Yoghurt and turning on him to join Scroub. :-P

  16. The shooters are victims too! on 'Columbine RPG' Creator Discusses the Dawson Shooting · · Score: 0, Troll

I'm sure many of slashdotters can relate to this.

High school is a cruel place. Its not easy being an outcast there. People will beat you up just because they don't like the way you dress, walk, or talk or for not having 'popular kid' interests/not being trendy. People will break or steal your belongings for the same reasons. Then when you call for help, your parents don't care as they are too busy with their selves. Your teachers/principals don't care because the bullies are star athletes that bring money into the school. And in some small towns like the one I grew up in, the police don't care because one of those bullies is the sheriff's son.

I not saying going on a shooting rampage is the answer but I guess sometimes a person has to start fighting back.

Unfortunately, guns tend to give instant courage to the meek and give the true victim what appears to them as an easy out....

In that case, the customer is in part at fault for their ignorance..

However, there is also the problem of banks that get hacked.

In that case, the bank had better cover the losses but I'm afraid the bank would push it off as a phishing case and try to weasel out of it...

Anywho, I wouldn't be surpised if banks started selling phishing insurance as an extra service to cover any losses...

  24. Re:Legalise Drugs on The Technology of Drug Prohibition · · Score: 1

Don't legalise drugs on the basis of taxing them. Sure, tax them like you'd tax any other good, but I hate using revenue to the state as a justification. The reason drugs should be legal is because people should have dominion over their own bodies.

Yeah, unfortunately certain kinds of drugs (like the smokable kind) effect the bodies of those around the user. Legalizing such drugs would give people the ok to use them in public and I'm sure there are many of us that don't want a contact buzz because some jackass wants to smoke weed or crack in a public place. Also, you give users a green light to use them while driving and operating dangerous equipment which does tend to effect the 'bodies' of others in the vacinity.
