    do this for linux, windows, bsd and others.... and only SOME libraries are platform dependendent

    If software developers wrote code in C, and included compile options for all operating systems, it wouldn't be a problem either. Those same shrink wrapped boxes would work on all computer platforms. However because M$ was able to corner (yes corner there's no way out) much of the market Software has been developed using M$ Winblows only code.

    It would not be possible to get an accurate reading from this. Because the operating system would have to be compiled for each hardware platform. Also to keep it fair we would have to do the same for the benchmark software. I am aware of no OS that will go accross all platforms. BSD comes close (since OS-X is BSD based) but doesn't quite get all architectures.

    Good ISP for parts of Canada This totals $35.40/yr
    Or get any ISP that's $9.95/month = $119.40/yr

    Grand total of $494.37 (374.97 + 119.40), it's much less then this AOL deal and a better computer.

    However, most of our (Canada's) Research has gone into underwater exploration. This only makes sense since over 80% of our border is coastline. This is where to look for examples of canadian robotics.

    Other examples of advances from canadians is some of the more advanced Meterology satallites that have been designed and developed here in our humble country.

    Open Task Manager, and sort by Image Name.

    Open "My Computer" and type "slashdot.org" beside where it says "Address" and hit enter.

    Note in Task Manager "IExplore" (aka Internet explorer) still isn't there.... hmm.... same program just with a slightly different name.. :(

    Next Word, and Publisher will be the same program with different toolbars enabled..... Wait... they did that already.

    The vast bulk of programming is just repetition. It's skilled repetition, but no more so than drafting or car repair.

    Most times... people who create such political works do so for the response it gets from those who see it.

    All this fighting is exactly the response they look for.

    BTW: from what I've seen all politians are lying @$$ holes that don't deserve to be in power, and are usually un aware of the real issues that people want addressed. That said I guess we aren't allowed to talk about them on the news either because everything they do is a skrew up and it makes them look bad (like this parady)

    Don't you see. Mars once had water, life, and a more protective atmosphere. Then over time the beings that lived there released gasses into the air that reduced the protective layer around the planet. During this time they were exploring nearby planets to go to in order to save the species. Then when they found one that was habitable, they sent as many of their species as they could to this new planet to start all over again.....

    And now we're doing it all over again.

    Seriously though, part of why it's 40% cheaper is the exchange rate, the rest is cost of living is lower. And I for one am glad to hear this, I'm a Software Developer that's working at best buy because no one is hiring fresh college grads anymore.

    And no... we don't live in igloos :D

    That was kind of the point of the article too. The cashiers shouldn't have to know. If there are some circumstances where seeing that information would be useful then by all means continue making it available, but discretely and out of the standard flow.

    But since both sections use the inventory system, which part should be the used by 90% of the time?

    And yes games do detect hardware, but you have to install them to do that... and he wants to run them off CD. Also most games have maps and stuff compressed to fit onto CD... I can't wait for DVDs for everything....
