With Paul Martin in the driver seat, it seems to me like business is the only priority. I'm not worried about the economy with Martin in power, but I don't expect anyone but the corporate world to win with his strategies. It is worse here in quebec since the liberal party is following the exact same lead.
I worked for an hosting service and we hosted JC-Penny's version of tis. The virtual manequin, it was all 3D and everything, so I'm not too sure what's so inovative with this. You could set your manequin to match your shape (required some hard honesty, I'm sure) and put clothes on it to see how they fit. I wonder if they still do it, I know for sure that we aren't hosting that anymore.
You are completely right but I believe the whole separatist argument is that french quebec is a 'distinc society' with its own identity rather than a will to belong to either France or english Canada.
Though I am not separatist, I do believe that quebec culture is unique and proud of it, at least such is my opinion as a french canadian. We have our own very distinct litterature and history, among many other cultural elements.
I do not agree that laws should be modified by language and I recognize the diverse abuses made by cultural authorities here in quebec. However one should understand that because an authority has faults does not mean it should not exist at all. It'd be like saying there should be no police in L.A. because some of its members engaged in racial abuse ever since its beginings.
To remain on topic however, I should add that perhaps the reason why the Quebec born 'courriel' word was adopted by France is that quebec does have an elaborate mechanism aimed at preserving and expanding the french language. The 'Office de la Langue Francaise' may be zealous and abusive, but it does have a purpose.
They do the same with Canada almost on a monthly basis. Lumber, electricity, oil, beef... The excuse may be different in the last case, but who buys it?
I found that SpamNet (yeah, it's for outlook) is most effective because it distributes the effort of identifying spam. Of course it requires a centralized repository, but I am a lot less worried about a personnal mail being tagged as spam without my knowing it because if it was sent to just me, there's little chance that someone else would have tagged it as spam.
I believe this is the best approach even though it certainly isn't for the best e-mail client.
It is a powerful tool indeed... Look at The Terminator, The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell. It's a tool to destroy humanity!
Imagine that thing learning how to control your brain by playing the very specific songs. It could end up building an army of geeky human drones, harness the power of slashdotters all over the world to expand its resources and take over the world!
We're all going to die because of a winamp plugin, aaaaaargh! Can duct-tape save us from this? Are we prepared?
Another unmentionned aspect is also the whole idea of seeing a target as just that, a target. As far as I can imagine, it's a lot easier to blow up a bunch of polygons than to see someone's guts splattering all over the place in front of you. This might take away some of the 'think twice' factor... It's a technical advantage, but I wouldn't call it a moral advantage.
It seem the whole point of modern warfare is to be able to slaughter people without needing to hear them scream or see them bleed.
Well, the kind of power *required* to run today's applications and end-user OSses versus the task they perform still seems wrong to me.
Sometimes I feel it would be nice if there was a freeze in hardware performance. Maybe we'd do more with what we have instead of sinking slowly into inefficiency.
We could learn a thing or two from the handheld and console market, but even those are starting to slip.
Don't get me wrong, I know some code is very efficient, especially when raw computing is the issue, but I just think that our ability to properly use the hardware at our disposal is evolving slower than the hardware itself.
Again, that's in general, I don't mean to insult some of the great coders out there.
Hey, if a business is useful to me, I don't mind helping it make/save money, especially if all it costs me is CPU cycles google is actually nice enough not to waste on a over-cluttered, useless, publicity-filled homepage.
I don't mind google being a business if it does business the right way. Heck, your waiter/waitress recieves a salary too. If you get good service, you tip. If google gives me good results, I'm all for a checkbox that'd let it borrow a few of my CPU cycles.
Imagine Google, or even Slashdot using this to aleviate some of their huge (well google anyway) computing needs. I certainly wouldn't mind lending a few of my CPU cycles to google if it meant my searches become more accurate.

Another *excellent* package from the Amiga days is beating them (and alias) to it:) As far as I can tell, it's the best 3D package out there, and the port to Linux is complete (in internal beta right now). They have screenshots, too. Check it out... Realsoft's home page.
Maya is by far better known and indeed quite powerful, but have you guys checked out RS4D? The port to linux is almost complete and in many aspects (not all of course), it is superior to Maya. And also a heck of a lot cheaper.

Our hydromas model has been able to do that for a while now, though it doesn't have a seat so it wouldn't be too comfortable.
... and 25% of it was porn, what does that leave future generations?
The french don't have a word for 'Entrepreneur'

I read this just after reading that ATI might replace nVidia in the next X-Box... Could this be part of the deal?

Nono, you read that wrong. Dual channel DDR is when you DDR to two different songs at once. Sort of the extreme sports version of regular DDR.

Maybe corporate elves go free if they are given a tie... Keep hoping.
Imagine just how much Cartman must wish the aliens had that kind of technology after recieving an anal probe from them.
