  1. Re:A couple of choice comments on the announcement on Record Labels Change Minds About Sharing MP3s · · Score: 1

The audio portion of an MP3 file has a roughly equivalent value as the ID3 tags. I get the ID3 tags for free, thus the audio portion has no monetary value.

Wow, that has got to be the most illogical and screwed-up perspective on music and copyright I have ever read.

Do you derive pleasure from listening to music? Do you agree that people who create music do so using their own time and resources? Don't you agree that there should be some form of compensation for the artists, for the pleasure that you gained from their music and the time and resources they spent to create it?

I have re-read your posts and I still cannot fathom how you believe that music has no monetary value, or that the audio portion of the MP3 has the same value as the ID3 tags. Without the audio, the ID3 tags are worthless. Without the ID3 tags, the audio portion retains all of its value.

I've tried to be polite up to now, but honestly mate, that was an absolute crock of shit.

Healthy food I agree with completely, but there are quality television shows and videogames that don't turn your brain to mush. I'd prefer to be selective about what entertainment I consume, rather than completely cutting out entire mediums of entertainment which, if used properly, can be great sources of education and self-improvement. To follow your own drug metaphor, it looks like you were forced to go "cold-turkey", because you were unable to manage them any other way.

The videogames and television shows I enjoy are certainly more stimulating than posting about your non-gaming lifestyle on the gaming section of Slashdot - which, to defend the other poster, does give you a rather unpleasant air of superiority.

What exactly was the point of posting this in the games section?

Do yourself a favour - grab a second-hand copy of Dungeon Siege and grab the amazing Ultima V fan-remake Ultima V Lazarus.

Incredibly professional graphics and music, an amazing recreation of Britannia, stays true to the original plot & conversations with some additional content lovingly added in - one of the added miniquests in New Magincia is a true test of the Avatar. It's incredible what the devs have managed to squeeze out of the Dungeon Siege engine.

My son in law is 35 plays video games all day long.

Your son in law is an idiot. And you assume every 30+ year old who enjoys videogames does so to the same level and to the detriment their family? And doesn't have any other hobbies? You sound like an idiot too.

You be your own judge, I was just venting a little frustration.

We are thank you - you be your own and keep your opinions about how other people choose to spend their time to yourself.

I ride my Harley, have a black belt, and do charity work. Try living a real life instead of a simulation.

So your past-times are better than ours? Again, under the assumption that gamers over 30 have no other hobbies. Sounds like you have a bit of a superiority complex there...

Every single 'gamer' I've met in their 30's has serious problems in their emotional development.

To be honest, it sounds like you have serious problems with your emotional development - particularly given your age. Sounds like a personal issue you have is affecting your opinion of an incredibly large and diverse range of people. Maybe you should jump on that Harley, go for a ride, and chill out a bit.
