The President of Sony BMG's global digital business division Thomas Hesse has weighed into the storm over the 'rootkit'-style copy restriction software introduced on some recent audio CDs.
Sony's software installs itself by stealth, conceals itself, then intercepts low level Windows systems calls. Removing it causes the CD drive to be rendered inoperable. The only cure is to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows.
What responsibility did Hesse feel for the havoc his CDs had caused?
"Most people, I think, don't even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?" he huffed.
I think we can take that as: "No responsibility at all."
Before anyone sets up any kind of web site, I strongly advise you to purchase an Umbrella Liabliity Insurance Policy. Among other things, these policies protect you from accusations of libel and slander.
Will this also work for copyright infringement, I.E. P2P, BITTORRENT, ECT?
If so, this might be a good investment for us all.

People are over looking the great new things that are coming out around the corner such as FIOS from Verizon. 15mbps for only $44.95. Right now you also can have your standard 4mbps cable modem from comcast upgaded to 8mbps for another 20 bucks a month.

Why can't we have our own EULA's for software companies installing software to our computers with out our knowledge? For example, since your software is being installed onto my machince, you agree to pay me 1000 dollars per banner add.

The Theory of Techtonic Plates is just that a theory but im pretty sure you believe in that one. Just because it is a theory doesent mean it isnt true. Just like the Theory of creationism. Now I dont hear that word tangled in with christian enough. I wonder why.
Activision simply isnt set up to test DVD games in the first place. None of their test systesm have DVD players and they dont have any dvd burners.
Also You wouldnt believe all of the bugs Activision has in their legacy installer.
The guy that designed it doesent even work for them any more. He left the company several years ago. Its created using a simple script.
