I would disagree, you can't sit a grandma down and have her learn 3DS max in a few minutes, nor can you with Maya either. It's just a different interface. With each release more keyboard-only commands are now mapped to menu entries.
If you watch "pro" users of 3DS max and Maya you'll notice they use keyboard shortcuts like crazy.
I don't care if people obtain NES roms online just to play them, but if you are out to make a profit like those guys are, that is what got me to e-mail Nintendo. There isn't even evidence that my e-mail made any difference anyhow.
Even though this is offtopic... If I called the cops on every time I saw someone speeding I would be on the phone the entire time I'm driving and still not be able to report every violation. I rarely see someone else other than myself obeying the speed limit, IMHO it is more certainly a more important problem than video game copyright infringement. But this news story isn't about speeding:-)
Last year around this time I saw one in a mall near my place also, and they were demoing obvious Nintendo games on it. Heck, the Nintendo logo was still present in the games. A week after I saw on Slashdot an article about Nintendo cracking down on these businesses commiting copyright infringement.
I e-mailed Nintendo about the one in the mall near my place, I never received a reply but they were gone soon after. This year I haven't seen any.
Have you even used Blender? It has the functionality to do almost all of those things, the only ones I haven't seen is import/export of characters from/to 3dsmax and Maya. But Poser model and animation has been done, skys/clouds/suns/moons is easy, landscape can be done in loads of different ways, "sean"? you probably mean scene, and yes, duh.
Most of your notes are pretty vague, like "burning" an object, but the other stuff like clothing simulation, trees, fur, yes has all been done, lots can be found in their gallery...
Whenever anyone mentions Blender here, it usually ends up in trolling about it's "crappy interface" and other fun opinions. IMHO, Blender's interface is extremely efficient, and I've worked with 3dsmax and Maya in the past...I could always get stuff done in Blender faster than the other two products. Blender by no means has a comparable featureset to 3dsmax and Maya, yet it is great at a LOT of stuff. Take a look at the gallery at Blender3d.com for some of the great work that's been done with it.
Some really great features that Blender has over the competition:
Open-source (obvious, but a plus)
Embedded python scripting (can import other modules, cross-platform)
Cross-platform to a ridiculous extent
Platform consistent (meaning it looks the same whatever you run it on), OpenGL-accelerated user-interface
Less than 10 megs for any platform!!
Loads in a few seconds, compare that to the behemoths Maya and 3dsmax are
No funky copyprotection servers/dongles to worry about
I find there is tons more documentation about how things work under linux more than other OSs...maybe I just can find it more easily. Plus you can get the ultimate documentation - source code:P
Erm, have you ever seen DareDevil? Daredevil and Spider-man exist in the same universe (AFAIK) and in DD Kinpin was played by Michael Clarke Duncan. I thought he did a pretty good job of it too.
Colin Farrell on the other hand, still had the usual irish accent (Alexander anyone?) and the wide-eyed-vibrating-eyebrows look he uses for shock/surprise/anger/sadness/sorrow/everything.
I've been using OOo for college and now university assignments and whatnot, using 1.0 through to 2.0 beta, didn't have any of the problems you were experiencing?
Heck, it saved me from my "professor" at the college I was attending had PowerPoint presentations infected with macro viruses, and didn't know it. Apparently his web server was infected, and then all his presentations were? OOo wasn't compatible with the macro virus, but I'm not complaining about that incompatibility:D
I think the dual screens really add to some games, and make some possible that simply weren't ever before. Games like the upcoming Animal Crossing DS are actually much more suited for dual-screen than single screen (like the GC version). The touchscreen is also wonderful, but I see you agree with me there:)
I've set up/troubleshooted a few Asus motherboards that had the default setting of "Auto Overclocking", they all were crashing and failing memory tests...I turned off the auto overclocking features (setting to manual, proper speeds) and wow, everything worked.
No, not every game needs physics. Dual-core will most likely render PPUs obsolete anyhow. When both are readily available, the price difference between a single core and a dual-core CPU will probably be around the same cost of a PPU, and a dual-core CPU will have more applications than a PPU...
Same thing at my shop, plus the management doesn't want to learn about anything open source or free, generally only what microsoft/symantec/someothercorp will spit out. Even when it's obviously terrible software, open source alternatives are not considered.
OpenOffice has made some inroads but as soon as one glitch comes up where it doesn't render a MS format properly everyone starts bitching. It's like that is worse than having to call microsoft when we upgrade a motherboard and they won't let a paid license activate over the web because it's already been done x amount of times. I used to offer Firefox but then my coworkers (who still like and use IE for some reason) tell me about their problems with customers calling up and complaining about Firefox to them. Instead of learning how Firefox works (which isn't hard!) so we can support users with it, they refuse. It's too bad really.

I'm using phpMyVisites right now, does exactly what I need :)
This has to be the story with the most comments that contains music about it I've seen on Slashdot for a while...

Heck there is even a ton of free documentation, ranging from a wikibook to other books and guides.
It was used for previz stuff on Spider-man 2, in case anyone asks if it has been used in the industry.I find there is tons more documentation about how things work under linux more than other OSs...maybe I just can find it more easily. Plus you can get the ultimate documentation - source code :P

He sold this? I know it was a misspelling, but it was a little funny. Ok, a really little.

nuff said.

Nevermind, I see you're talking about old machines...
Quantum drives haven't been available new for some time, they were bought by Maxtor years ago...
If only there was a supercomputer that could revise news posts before they go live? It could be in the form of *gasp* an editor!?
In Windows, an ordinary user has administrative priviledges, ie: ROOT
Something tells me the millions of people who haven't splurged on HDTV systems yet, CAN'T.

Cmon RIAA and MPAA, save this company from MASSIVE LOSSES...oh wait, they keep increasing revenue and crushing independents? Damn.
Yeah, these times are soo bad, before with VCRs and cassette tapes absolutely nobody was infringing on copyright. Give me a break.
Enough said...
Apparently Slashdot doesn't want my text to be formatted properly....(my previous post wasn't in a big block of text like it is now)
