Would love to agree with that trivially easy statement except that what we have experienced is that you have to reboot SuSE Linux after applying their timezone patch or else the dates are instantly reverted to GMT in all Java apps which causes major problems in our financial apps. That proves to be a less than trivial task when scheduling updates on hundres of 24/7 servers in 48 states.

  14. Re:Screw 'em on Microsoft Charging Businesses $4K for DST Fix · · Score: 1

Yes, we do now, after one of our overzealous installers went out and installed the new timezone rpm on a whole bunch of customer SuSE Linux machines without rebooting (or much prior testing). This for some reason caused all of our Java based apps to revert to using GMT until the machines were rebooted, which therefore caused a bunch of financial calculations and postings to be screwed up.

The morals of the story are that you should always test all patches before installing them on customer's machines, no matter how innocuous they may seem, and if you install the updated timezone rpm on SuSE Linux you have to reboot or any Java apps will instantly have their times off, not just be wrong when the DST change hits.

PS Would love to see those updated instructions.

Yes, I love Google Calendar, but I am also forced to use Outlook at work for scheduling as well. There is still one basic feature that I can do with ease in Outlook that I have yet to figure out how to do in Google, and I am hoping someone can clue me in. And that feature is the ability to simply hold down Ctrl and drag an entry to a new day and make a copy of the entry there on that day. In Outlook it is quick and intuitive and I have yet to figure out how to do it in Google.
Any suggestions on quickly making event copies?

Now on to a technical question. Since IMAP is 2 way. Theoretically you could back it up remotely and then restore it to the mail server remotely if necessary. Does anyone know of any software for doing this?

  18. Similar experience with local ISP on Lycos Deletes Emails and Says 'Too Bad!' · · Score: 1

I had a similar experience with our local cable modem internet provider. They are a large multi-state cable company. I had been a loyal customer paying their exhoribitant fees for many years, so definately not free. Their mail server for our city crashed overnight and the next morning 4 years worth of saved email was gone, but not just for me, for the whole city. I at first figured it was temporary, so I started by emailing and then phoning after I got more concerned. There answer was that they only keep a nightly disk backup and that got corrupted also and that they had no tape backup whatsoever. Being a sysadmin myself I was completely aghast. But they basically told me no amount of complaining could ever bring it back and all they offered was a free month of service. On top of that, they also told me that I should not even be leaving my mail on their server. I use their IMAP service so I can have access to my mail from several home and work computers, but they told me I should only be using POP and saving it on my own computer. The worst part is since they are the only decent network provider in the area, I still use them as an ISP, but not for any important email.

Not all phones. Bluetooth transfers to the 2GB Micro SD card in my Verizon LG VX8600 works just fine. I don't know if it would be able to access external storage though.

The other downside to using this would seem to be power consumption. I seem to get about half the phone battery life listening to music through my stereo bluetooth headset. Can't imagine that streaming audio off of a bluetooth drive would be any better.

I also don't know if bluetooth is cable of doing 2 things at once. Could I play off of the bluetooth drive and then back out through my bluetooth headphones at the same time?

With some updated graphics and network play, this game could truly be great once again.
