    I am not sure who put those grand ideas in your head about what the "real" world was going to be like, but I'll bet it was your higher education.
    They pumped your ego up and made you think the working world would roll out a big leather chair and slide you into your own office and shower you with tons of cash.
    Then you discovered it doesn't work that way.
    I guess the only thing to say is welcome to the "real" world.

    Apple pioneered Command
    Apple hardly pioneered the use of these keys. Apple may have applied the functions you mentioned to these sequences, but they were put to use in other OS's long before Apple came along, for the same reason you mention, ease of typing.

    All software should be FREE!
    How about leaving that decision to the developer?
    The decision of how to license should be up to the person/people who developed it. If you want to release via GPL go ahead, if you want to release under some other terms go ahead.
    Freedom of choice.

    Unfortunately many of the people I have encountered are certified but not qualified. There are too many "boot" camps that cram too much into 5 days and then allow all the students to "collaborate" on the tests.
