Honestly, when I sit down to play video games, I want to escape reality. However, that does not mean I want to slash up dragons or shoot down space ships with lasers. Sometimes I want to play a game in a GTA or "urban" setting just because it's the closest thing to doing something you couldn't in the real world and getting away with it.
I am guessing that the dual boot thing is an April Fool's joke. Do you honestly think Apple is interested in supporting the buggy, virus-prone Windows XP? I doubt it. Unless Apple has struck some crazy support deal with Microsoft, I think Jobs is just pulling a fast one.
Microsoft, since they are the controllers of the most used OS in the world right now, are basically the ones who say what level of technical competence a user must possess to use a computer. I think *nix is a lot more easier and logical than Windows, but that is because I hold a basic understanding of many of the underlying concepts to a computer and OS (partitions, good design i.e. separating the kernel from the GUI, what the difference is between booting from your hard drive and your CD-ROM drive, etc.) Until users are forced to know what a root user is (and other basics to the *nix environment) to surf the net, or until the *nix people (the open source community and whoever pushes for it) figures out a way to design their system so my grandma could understand EVERY part of it, I personally don't see people moving from Windows very rapidly. After all, if people are fed up with their Windows boxen running slowly because of spyware and suggest an alternative OS, what if they picked an OS that was just as evil as Windows and just happened to have a better security model? Not that one necessarily exists, but the point should be to encourage users to "try and learn GNU/Linux" and not "get away from Windows."
It is late, I am tired and may be wrong about a few things, but I hope my point was made.
How does this get modded up? Does it occur to you that some people in America are smart, watched the debates, and chose to support Bush? I, for one, have a brain, watched the debates, and voted for Bush because I thought he would make a good president.
"I foresee thousands of discussions on the UltraWeb (or whatever they decide to call it) about these games, and how kids these days just don't understand good game design."
If the game design of Pac Man was so good, then why do I become bored with it in 5 minutes? This may not be the point your arguing or commenting on, but I see it out there a lot. Pac Man might have been revolutionary for its time, but standards change. I'm not saying that ultra-good graphics are an excuse for poor gameplay, but most professional designers today still keep in mind the fundamentals of what makes a fun game fun in my opinion.
Many people want their PC to just "function as intended"...like checking email, browsing the internets, etc, but there is a huge open-source initiative for PCs. Where do you draw the line with electronic gizmos?
I'm not defending either side here...but how exactly does one call this a "creationist textbook sticker?" I've heard many evolutionists declare evolution as only theory and not fact as well...

If you're looking for a bulletproof keyboard and extrememly responsive keys, get a Northgate Omnikey. You can find them on eBay, or buy one from this guy.
If Mindawn wants to keep their emphasis in progressive rock, all they have to do is strike a deal with Inside Out Records, and they'll have access to at least 85% of prog rock bands.
I remember back in grade school...anytime there was a "fair" or something like this, we always made something to take home. Well, the same could be true with high schoolers if done properly. Show them something they can go home, on their Windows PC, and play around with. Or maybe show them how to program something simple, and then have a few demo PCs set up to play with.
In a nutshell, don't show them how to setup and configure a MySQL database. Show them how to make a guess-the-number game and variants of such things.

After reading the title, I was expecting to see projectile CS:Source CDs shattering Intel processors.

I can. There is an inherent bias against Microsoft on Slashdot. Sad, but true.
Now someone just needs to make a search engine called "Matata", and we'd have no worries for the rest of our days.

I hear Nethack has a hidden mini-game like this too.

You must have mistaken Slashdot with some other place...
This I know. The grandparent was my feeble attempt at a joke. :-D
This feature is still in beta.
I'm currently paying $20 per month for 256k down, 128k up. Unfortunately it's through a local company and only available in my locale.

How can we trust his blog post? I bet he spoofed all those dialog boxes.
Can we get an MD5 on this please?

"Does anyone really care anymore?"
:)
Of course we care. We need something to feed our Firefox > * egos.

They must have missed a shot because they're apparently not on fire anymore.
