So, I read through the comments, saw the ups and downs. But what's disturbing is the fact when those whom speak up regarding glaring issues, there is no support..
this is how most people see it,
1. employer wants to start an initiative to jump start productivity.
2. employer may not want to pay or does not have a budget for the expectations..
3. leverage someone in the workforce to spear-head this project, regardless if they are qualified or not. Latteral move requiring no extra Budget outlay.
4. if it doesn't work, employer blames employee whom is laid off and then is also responsible for those whom acted on the advice and subsequently got laid off. Which opens other avenues..
5. Now employer has several openings that can be filled by younger less experienced individuals (drones), that can try to do the work at a significantly reduced cost..
Long term looks shabby, short term looks great.
yes I agree our profession is messed up to some degree, but does that mean that we should sweep incidences like this under the rug, and try to move forward with a short ter vision? Or, can we stop this vicious cycle and bolster a better future-vision for ourselves and those whom will undoubtedly come after our passing?

This is something YOU should take up with management, the company auditor, and company legal council to establish a policy and procedure for these things..
The resources you had placed to "read-only", do you know if there is a documented policy/procedure regarding terminations? If so do your actions fall under those guidelines? If not, do you understand what negative exposure you may be causing as a result of not following such a procedure much less having one in place..
Its great that your looking for some FREE help, but this is something for your company to decide, and document..

4.. I agree the individual should be evaluated by a Professional to see if the punishment does fit the alleged crime..
5.. Based only on the information given, how can this tragedy happen??
6.. What were to happen if he were 18 and just finishing up HighSchool? Would he be in jail now?? If so what would he be charged with?
7.. How could we as a community quantify this?? Libel, Slander, Defamation of charecter, crule and unusual punnishment, illegal search and seizure? (perhaps not since the family willingly let them inside) Child's right violations, civil rights violations, the list could potentially go on and on.
