  1. To All The People Who Say Change The Game on Boycott the Gold Farmers? · · Score: 1

I think the thing you are all missing is this:

Gold farming is what drives up the economies in this game to begin with. If you don't believe, try rolling a character on a brand new WoW server before the gold farming sites make gold available for them. The prices in the AH start out *very* reasonable, 10 silver for a stack of leather. But then Guy A starts to get greedy, and trys inflating the prices on their goods in the AH by placing his leather for 50s. Normally, this sort of action would result in the goods not selling, and being returned to the seller. In steps Guy B, who freshly purchased 1000 gold from ige.com. Since he now has a surplus of gold, he has no problem in paying the 50s for Guy A's leather. The next time Guy A puts up all his leather, he will now sell it for 50s, and other people will follow suit. In steps Guy C, who wouldn't really think of buying gold initially, but feels he can't keep up with the prices of leather for 50s. Guy C goes to ige.com, buys 1000 gold, and the cycle continues. So you see, by buying gold, you are contributing to the problem which you claim caused you to buy the gold in the first place.

I also love how you keep bringing up one of the only expensive NPC purchased items in the game, an epic mount. This usually costs between 800-900 gold. Others are available for 640. A normal mount (which is slower admitingly) costs you only 90 gold, which is very easily obtainable by anyone. Simply put, this is not an item you *need*, it's something you *want*.

Lastly, consider that you probably are playing a genre of games that don't suit you very well. If you really are that unhappy about an aspect of a game, simply stop playing it.

People outside of the US are not supposed to be playing on US servers whether they wanted to wait or not. This is Blizzards rules and you agreed to them by buying the game and accepting the EULA. Also, they must realize that even if you are a foreign person who legitimately wants to play on a US server, if your english skills are not up to par you are making the game very difficult for everyone else around you.
We have several people from Spain in my guild and they are welcome because they speak english as well as anyone else in the guild(plus they rock!) We even had an asian person who didn't speak english very well but we still welcomed in the guild. Surprise surprise we caught them dupe hacking with this latest exploit and they were kicked from the guild and then banned from the game after we reported them to a GM.

  5. Re:Love the game on World of Warcraft Trial Period Extended · · Score: 1

The reason they are having so many problems is that despite having so many servers at launch, people were flocking to 5 or 10 of the most popular. I think the queues were not because the servers couldn't handle the load, but if you played the first night there was a lot of lag on the busiest servers. So instead of having laggy servers and people complaining about that, they chose to cap the busiest ones, nudging some of the players to less populated servers. I think it was the best case in a situation bad to begin with.

  6. Re:As I posted a few articles back... on A Negative Review of Halo 2 · · Score: 1

I see your point about video game genres being repetitive, but what do you expect from gave developers. Not EVERY game can be revolutionary, as the defining points of the genre will remain the same in every game. You have guns, you shoot things. Halo 2 adds many great new things which haven't shown up in any other FPS as far I know. It has a great melee weapon. You have the ability to steal vehicles ala GTA style. You can dual-wield weapons of different types and mix n match to your hearts content.

Don't get pissed because every new game isn't entirely different from those before it. Things don't have to revolutionary to be good, in fact many games that are too ambitious end up failing.

So in closing, RTS games will have armies, FPS will have guns, MMORPGS will have experience grinding and killing some sort of rat. Just appreciate those that get the formula right.

  13. Re:Bah, Steam on Half-Life 2 Preloading from Steam · · Score: 0

I have no problems with steam. It's a pretty good concept that may have been buggy at first but has matured over age. Don't feel like keeping your CD's around? That's ok, because your CD-key is bound to your steam account, and you can just re-download a completely update version of the game in the event of a re-install.

If you really don't like it that much, watch out, because I see more distributors using systems like this. They no longer have to pay packaging fees, or print manuels, or mae CD's. Plus, people like the ones who pre-ordered Doom3 but still downloaded it over the weekend because they 'couldn't wait' will love this option.

A lot of people hate steam, but I say embrace your future.
