I agree! The last time I checked my windows system for stability it asked me for a credit card number for verification and when I refused to provide it, it formatted my hard drive and rebooted. I'm sure that was simply because it wasn't windows 7. I heard windows 7 is so great that when it comes out in my lifetime there will be a celebration!
I find that hard to agree with
Although it should have been backed up, he's not stealing anything. Locking of content is something that was originally "forbidden on CDs" and exactly the reason for why people get around the DMCA. I don't remember the exact conditions behind it but maybe someone else can help me out here. Oh wait, I think its called Fair Use.
Dont' equate software with something physical either, those are different situations, putz.
Downloading a copy of something you already own is different than stealing something physical (aka I lost my playstation I'll go steal someone's). Just because you lost your copy doesn't mean that the software in question is any less your property. Just because you lost your copy of XYZ most companies other than gaming systems will actually be able to provide you another copy if said software is registered.
If your playstation is lost, will they reimburse you for it even if registered/xbox/etc? Nope.
That indeed doesnt' seem as sensational as the article itself was, but...
Where exactly was that on the ResNet? I didn't see it, and was browsing through their crap this morning looking.
What I saw on their fair use agreement is "understand that if I receive a copyright violation notice that my ResNet service will be de-activated, there will be no refund of ResNet fees and that I will be unable to use ResNet for the duration of my stay in the Residence Halls."
I can't find your part about the 5 day thing. Just violation - suspended. Can you provide a link?
I never said an antivirus will catch things outside of what the antivirus is looking for, even heuristic scans are limited before even minimal performance is compromised. Your statement is correct but I was never arguing that aspect.
There's not enough info to assume his computer competency but even a script kiddie (I am familiar with the term, thanks, we all start there if you're reverse engineering things) would hopefully (I suppose thats more my opinion than fact) know something, but I do agree that some people just google a winnuke/proxy/etc, and that said ignoramus kid was probably not thinking before doing. However, see first part of sentence.
Getting a warrant may be due process but that doesn't mean its accurate. It's assumption of probably cause/suspicion, no?
Anyway, I didn't mean to offend, but my thoughts weren't elaborated well I suppose. How about you explain to me how you come up with the thoughts that he was automatically a script kiddie due to a compromised pc? I don't doubt his lack of forethought and horrible location choices.
Nobody said it was via TOR, please don't make false statements like that. A compromised PC especially doesn't mean TOR usage.
the question was how someone who would use an out-of-country proxy would happen to fall for something like this. If the kid was even using a simple out of country proxy that is advanced enough it would be safe to assume the kid would have an antivirus/etc.
Yes some people are retarded, but this kid doesn't fit into the normal speculation for that.
Just because someone does something the "average Joe" cannot or does not do, doesn't mean that he knows more than said Joe. Umm, that is the definition of not being an average joe, doing something more than the typical person would.
Also Mr opportunity in reply to your earlier post about "I have nothing to hide, please look". If you have nothing to hide, can I see all of your credit card bills in the last 2 years, your credit history, every website you've been to, every phone call you've made, and can I come in your house when you aren't around to do things that I assure you are legal? I assure you none of the data will be abused. Sound familiar? Oh and if I find a purchase not reported to the IRS, I'll just go ahead and let them know.
Sound a bit like gov't overstepping their boundaries? If no, I'd like to inform you that the thing you breathe out of, is usually called a mouth.
Here's what's going on here, involving your ass with some ascii
Microsoft -> you (pre-patent) ( o )
microsoft -> you (post-patent) ( O )
any questions?
apparently neither is reading, since someone missed that the article that is labeled as spreading fud actually talks about how other people are spreading fud. twist, eh?
As my subject says, simple solution. done and done. Even something that simple can grab all installed programs and uninstall them (including things not listed in registry)
of course, basic windows vista users try not to uninstall your kernel:)
Amen to that.
DC simply requires larger amounts of sharing, like the 20 Gig range.
However, I have noticed that it is one of the few sources to have very obscure items that I've been looking for, for some time.
I think I just heard the zune customer base may jump from 5 users to 6 this holiday season. Confirmed?
I wonder if this has been tested enough to see if the virus evolves past it
slot machines are designed to take your money. News at 5!

Backups: so easy a caveman could do it?
This just in the news: microsoft screws up pcs. WOW!
Amen to that. DC simply requires larger amounts of sharing, like the 20 Gig range. However, I have noticed that it is one of the few sources to have very obscure items that I've been looking for, for some time.
and in other news, build a pc from scratch with same equipment for probably, 2500$ max! yes I want fries with that.
