However, when you are dealing with technology, old speeches hold less credence on the business practices of today. Time is much harsher to ideas on technology than it is to social issues.

Would you assume that a company had no internet strategy, and that 640k Ram should always be enough, based on some 1984 speeches? No, because they are outdated, and many things have changed. Just as things have changed alot for google since 2001.

I've had bad luck in the past with pre-standard equipment, but this one sounds pretty good. It seems to only be missing one of the features of the n standard. I thought N had essentially "wireless switching", in that the wireless bandwidth was not divided when multiple connections were established. If everything else lives up to their hype, this could be a good stop gap solution until the standard equipment comes out 3rd quater this year.

You would be stuck with the same glibc that the original release came with. The easiest way to update glibc is to do a new install with the new version, otherwise, you have to recompile ALL your programs with the newest version. If I understand it right, this is how Gentoo does it...but not really sure, I've never used it. I only have linux nerd badges for compiling my own kernel, and not using windows. Gentoo may be next.

I wish those days were long gone. And those "we are the internet" ads do piss me off. However, my fiance's father IS one of those people. He comes to our house and asks how to "log on". He can't fathom that just opening the web browser gives him access to the internet. Where is AOL? Prodigy? (Yes, he was a die hard prodigian) How are you already logged on? Is he an exception to the rule, or indicative of the masses?
