    No kidding. Netscape was originally in C. They bought Collabra and allowed the failures from Collabra to do the rewrite in C++. This gave precious time to Microsoft.

    Programming languages' primary feature is creating independent programs and APIs.
    Scripting languages' primary feature is using APIs to move data between independent programs. Some scrpting languages can be (mis)used as programming languages, but this comes with horrible performance penalties.

    Java is a programming language. Javascript and Python are scripting languages.

    Unfortunately, these "going private" deals usually end with an IPO 2-3 years later. Same old compay with extra debt! The refinancing will make no difference to Dell, since "providing useful products and services at a profit" is what management should be concentrating on.
    1) Use other people's money to buy up company
    2) Pay self fees for being the Buyout fixer (Profit $$$)
    3) Wait 2-3 years
    4) Perform IPO
    5) Pay self fees for being the IPO fixer (Profit $$$)
    6) Sell new shares (Profit $$$)

    I can't recall what ancient civilization declared it, but they said taxation over 20% was slavery (not that they thought slavery was bad, just how they defined it).

    It was Egypt. The tax was imposed by Joseph, circa 1900 BC. It was still enforced until at least 1950 AD.

    DuPont had the patent on R-12, which was expiring. Just in time, they "discovered" and patented other CFC's (like R-134a); R-12 was banned. Maybe I'm too suspicious...maybe not.

    Not for long. The desktop market is shrinking and MSFT is spending money buying companies. Examine their SEC filings to see the decline in current assets and increase in "Goodwill". I hope these new hires are being paid salary/wages. MSFT stock options are not worth what they used to be.
