Isn't it, at a most basic level, a personal preference? There are several reasons why religions exist, and one of them is to explain what can't be explained by observation/experimentation (ie, science). The ancient Greeks invented a god to pull the sun across the sky, but now we know that the sun revolves around the earth (kidding folks..). Many cultures believed in a god who makes the rain come. Now we know it's a simple matter of water evaporating into the sky, and coming back down as rain.
Religion/faith offered the only explanations for these phenomenon in the past. Now, science explains them. Maybe in the future, science will explain, unequivocally, evolution, creation, and other things that people turn to religion to explain today.
Couldn't you say the same thing about... Linux? How about all those free linux apps, or even some of the free windows "firewalls"...wait, maybe that's a bad example, what with sygate's proxy hole, Kerio's fragment vulnerability, and zonealarm's dde problems that are only fixed on the PRO version. Yeah. Windows firewalls are bad example. Nevermind.:P
You don't have to buy McAfee every year. A subscription, yes, but a subscription is cheaper than the software itself. Unlike Symantec, McAfee provides engine updates. You don't need the newest version to have the best protection.
Playing with an XBox controller is a personal preference issue. I once argued the virtues of mice with a gamer who'd had it both ways. He was dead-set on the dual analog joysticks setup, and a bigger gamer than I.
I once played HALO with my cousins on X-Box. I figured, what do these console losers know about FPS? How hard could it be? I got 0wned. Hard. I hate the dual-stick style. Gimme a mouse and I woulda owned em both--I think.
Thanks for the info. The DVD player itself is only about two-three years old (forgotten really), the VCR is new, but cheap. Cheap devices for teh win, I guess.
WTF? How does this work? Does it only work on S-Video or Optical connections, or something? IIRC, my dvd player is hooked up to my VCR. It's connected with RCA connectors, though. No optical/s-video available. Cheap equipment.
Aussies may be nutty in some ways, but I do believe I like what you say about Aussie law in this respect. Yes indeed. This is only a first impression of course, I have not taken any time at all to consider the further implications of such a view.;)
Ah yes, the 5.x versions. I had forgotten about those and seem to remember I didn't like 5.x either. I think that was around the time of Phoenix 0.5 (IIRC, and goddamn was it fast back then!) and may have been when I started experiementing with the various Gecko browsers. 7.x just cemented the deal.
My favorite versions of Opera have been 3.62, because it was so fast and the rendering errors were actually amusing to me, 6.05, and 8.x.
It's not just that it's free-as-in-beer now. It's the 8.x family. Somewhere in the early 7's, I grew disgusted with the changes and outright removal of certain things that I had grown to like about Opera.
Before, 6.05 was the last version of Opera that I really liked. Everything between that and 8.0 I truly hated--wand was cool yeah, but I still hated it. Mozilla became my primary browser then.
Now with 8.x, I find myself liking and actually using Opera a lot more. It feels much more like a much-improved 6.x than the 7.x series did. Mozilla's still my primary browser, for now, but Opera's a serious contender for my attention once again. 8.x is MUCH better.
Hard to find a copy of Mozilla? Huh? Or did you mean Seamonkey? Mozilla's still on the front page and a quick Google came up with Seamonkey's page, complete with download link.
No argument here: Mozilla's UI is much better than Firefox's. Firefox drives me nuts. And maybe I'm already nuts, but I do like having mailnews and composer right at my fingertips. No, I don't use composer for anything serious.
Yeah, I tried IZarc on the recommendation of a friend and I've never looked back. Hell I haven't used Winzip since version 6 or something. I'd been making do with Power Archiver 6 and Winrar, but now IZArc's all I need.
I tried 7-zip, way back when I first heard of it. It lacked context-menu items, so I uninstalled it.

You had me until the last sentence. Why the need to inject politics into this? Jesus get off your soapbox once in a while.

I don't know how fancy the "feautures" you're referring to are, but I haven't had any trouble.
:D
Then again maybe memory is failing me. I do have a lot of spare mice and actually have an extra mouse for my computers sharing KVM switches.

You've never left a PC case open before, have you? ;)

I am patiently waiting for that day. ;)

His Dell didn't have an AGP slot? Jesus I didn't think Dells were THAT cheap...
Come to think of it, I'm not seeing any ads on gmail either, and I don't recall ever seeing any in the first place, either.
Mozilla 1.7.7
A 100MHz cpu can play mp3s, so maybe that b&w 100MHz PDA is more useful than you thought. ;)
If fox is crashing very often, you're doing something wrong.
Holy hell.
I'd go buy one to confirm, but I think I don't want to support such behavior. I'd toss that router, if you haven't already.
Or they can... and they just didn't tell you!

Mozilla was, and still is free and better than Firefox. :P
Was it planted by Servalan?(sp)
Yes, because a rioting mob will always agree to "sit down and talk" when the police show up...
Cry me a river, liberal?
If I'm going to plunk down $50 for a game, I want to try it out first.
Silly. Haven't you heard of friends? You don't know ONE person who has the game?
