Isn't it ironic that Slashdot is linking to an article speculating on why IT projects are completed late, that will then be speculated upon by hundreds of Slashdot users, during typical business hours?
Also, I just somehow doubt that a company that is capable of developing and programming a game from scratch, just doesn't have the skill to have implemented this in the original game. If they wanted GTA/VC to be multiplayer...they would have done it.
Do not mistake it for a second, Hilary is on an all out Presidential Campaign from here on out to 2008. Every move she makes will be calculated, and [mostly] a movement to the center by selectively choosing conservative concerns/solutions.
The thing that bothers me, isnt so much the "oh think of the children, the children, the horror!" because it seems to be a fundamental battle cry of politicians, but just the way they go about doing it. They all seem to be focused on content rather than procedure. Focus on laws/guidlines that keeps this stuff out of youngin's hands: thats fine. But stop wasting your breath decrying the actual content of GTA trying to rally people into what, banning the game all together? Just focus on procedure, and then we'll just be left with criticizing political prioritizing (IE: congressional baseball steroids testimony/the whole nation being focused on a 15 year long braindead female in Florida while there is a war going on and active terrorists in the world).
Even though TFA is very lacking, and seems like a big push to make people subscribe to read more, I agree with the likelihood of where Apple/iPod is going to go, but then again, I think it is a no brainer.
The iPod has to reach a saturation point sometime, and sometime soon. At which point I think Apple will slap the iPod on everything. That sounds like I am putting a pathetic spin on it, but it really isnt. Apple will astound and inovate in all areas that they can integrate the iPod with. But really, out of all of these possibilities, I really see the iPod heading for an integrated phone/PDA/camera type thing, not a watch.
While I agree that this particular instance has little negative monetary impact on Apple, I must ask....why do they make people sign NDAs? Not just for fun I can assure you that. Of course it is about money, this just causes a large ripple that hopefully sends a message and protects future NDAs and makes them more meaningful (hence more likely to protect Apple's interests, ergo money).
Your statement is akin to someone asking "Why did the plane crash?" to which you answer "Because it fell out of the sky."
It also fits perfectly in the mouth of a 3 year old. Then, it's peanut shapes keeps it stuck there as she runs around the room making screamy-gurgley noises with most of a Tivo remote sticking out of her face.
It took a while to clean all the gooey slobber off it too.
Good Lord I need to get my mind out of the gutter for that entire comment if it were out of context
This isn't trolling, I am honestly interested in what everyone's POV is. It seems like the common consensus on/. is that: cyber squatting = bad as well as corporations protect its name against 'the little guy' = bad too. It seems to me that the line you draw in the sand between squatting and name defense is the idea of content, no? So, is it the opinion that we get judges involved in deciding if, a squatters website that has a lot of links to online poker sites, search engines etc. etc. doesn't qualify as ligitimant?
Unless you are dictating the sequel to the Davinci Code to your publisher over AIM, given the average level of "literature" of AIM conversations, I don't think you have anything to worry about
Why are people walking around surprised that AOL would, at the very least, not guarantee absolute privacy in conversation?
The best way to deal with this is to always treat any conversation, ESPECIALLY over the internet, and ESPECIALLY on a service like AIM as insecure. Period.
He was also part of the Strategic Defense Initiative in the 80s.
I won't go so far as to say that this should automatically disqualify him, only because he is a science/engineering geek and it is possible to live in that realm and not mix politics. However, the "Star Wars" initiative was a horrible idea. Now it has regained momentum -- 'National Missle Defense' under GWB, interesting how this choice to head NASA supported Reagan's SDI...Hmm... The cold war is OVER. The best way to achieve nuclear disarmament or even come CLOSE is to give the impression at least, to other countries that you aren't preparing for an oncoming nuclear attack.
All this home automation protcol needs are two things:
1. To branch out into wireless video cameras
2. Launch a massive popup ad campaign featuring hot models
To be honest, I don't know how to react to your comment, I laughed at first thinking its satire, then grimaced when I realized you are probably serious.
Where is the innovation here? Slapping a new trend technology (WiFi) on top of existing tech? Not to mention the fact that it doesnt make much sense to slap on a wireless technology to something that will always be wired/never move. Proof that it is just an attention grabber I guess.
Maybe its just me, but doesnt it seem odd that Congress is meddling in NASA's affairs? Granted, when it all comes down to budget it is in Congress's hands, but don't you think NASA knows whats best for itself?
To Slashdot............Microsoft is evil.... patents are evil too....patent reform is a good thing...... Microsoft WANTS patent reform.............please, someone tell me how to think!!!!
Starve the beast: cut taxes all the while spending more and letting the deficit spiral out of control. Then, sometime in the future, another president, has has to either raise taxes, or cut programs. Think of 'deficit' as the beast, and think of 'taxes' as the way of feeding it. IE starving the beast.
When I was talking about program cuts, I am talking future-wise. It is inevitable.

If Linus and Apple with their Tiger release got together and released an OS would you have a Liger, only like, the best OS ever? Gosh.

Good point, I mean, this is unique to Tivo, the whole mixing of subscription/advertising just doesnt happen...
...in magazines...
...on Slashdot...
...with DVDs...

I've seen slow news days before on Slashdot but....wow.
What is the Google lunch menu for today?
...might live to see Sun, 21 Apr 2069 00:55:37 GMT or 3133731337
Someone in Israel, breaking into a branch of a Japanese bank, stealking British pounds. Well, theres some multiculturism for you.
for Linux's inscalability and insecurity - here.

Kind of like the MPAA requiring you to use your car and gasoline to drive to a theatre? (if you so choose)
MS Files for Broad...Patent in NZ
Hey now, I wouldn't be surprised nowadays with how patents are going!
(P.S. They prefer to be called 'females')

You are (understandably) confusing humor with ineptitude.
