  1. Re:BSOD on Longhorn: Fewer BSODs, More RSODs · · Score: 1

Only time I've seen one recently is on a friend's box after he installed some faulty RAM. Of course, he still had the box set to automatically reset at first, so he never saw it until i told him to disable it. Other than that, I may have seen one BSOD since I got XP.

FYI, the network adapters from the old PS2 don't fit in the new one because the network adapter is built into the new PS2.

I've seen this posted on numerous discussion boards before gamesarefun picked it up, so they didn't start it. They probably picked it up from a message board, but the original sites that posted it are Japanese.

  5. Re:I suspect on Sony PSP Defects Reported · · Score: 1

Sony issue a recall? Doubtful. They didn't issue one after the numerous problems with the PS2, so I don't see it happening now. Recalls usually put a stigma on the product, and I don't think Sony wants their brand new handheld to be known for being recalled because of problems with the system.

  7. Re:Advantage: Nintendo on 400,000 Additional DSs Available by Year's End · · Score: 1

Nintendo owns the handheld market at this point. And who says they're not up there in the console market? Last I checked, worldwide the GameCube is the second biggest console. As for the U.S., GameCube and X-Box are neck and neck, but X-Box doesn't sell well outside of the U.S. I, for one, can't explain why PS2 is so far ahead this generation. PS2 is obviously the least of the systems as far as graphics and processing power go. Hype and such put the PS2 ahead (as well as games). I hope for great things with the DS.

  8. I got to play with one... on iRiver Ships Linux Media Players · · Score: 2, Informative

There was a display model at a Best Buy near me (I think, it was one of those stores). I found it difficult to navigate through the menus and such and it took me about 5 minutes before I could get a song to play. There were no video files on the device so I couldn't test the video quality. All I know is that at the price they wanted, this player was too much of a hassle to use. And now that I'm reading about the lack of OGG support, that almost defeats the purpose of buying an iRiver.

  9. Re:This is Bigger on Biggest Console System Collection on eBay · · Score: 1

There was once an auction on eBay much bigger than this one. It included development kits for many systems, including NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2, and was full of good games and other peripherals. I forget how much it went for, but it was ridiculously expensive. The auction no longer exists as far as I know.

Really? I don't leave it plugged in, so I can't say that I've noticed. Kinda surprising to me in a way, but also kinda not surprising. Not surprising because wireless drains batteries, but surprising because it runs off the same port as the cables do and I guess it never crossed my mind that the wireless would suck out more power than the cord.

  14. Re:Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green on Nintendo DS Network · · Score: 2, Interesting

Yes it does (I play it too). However, the GBA's wireless adapter only works with other GBA wireless adapters. The DS has 802.11b/g compatibility and, if speculation proves to be true, the ability to spread the connection range out so that other people not near hubs can also join in. Time will tell, and this is definitely something I'm going to keep my eye on. Either way, my DS is already preordered.

  15. Re:Anakin's Redemption Diminished? on 11,000 Words on the Star Wars Trilogy DVDs · · Score: 1

Good point. I didn't think of that. Honestly, I'm not sure, because in the original movie, you had never seen Anakin's face before, but Yoda and Obi-Wan looked the same as they always had.

I'm not a big enough Star Wars nerd either. I know the movies decently, and that's about it. Someone else may know more.

  16. What's the point? on 11,000 Words on the Star Wars Trilogy DVDs · · Score: 3, Interesting

The most significant change is the replacement of the Anakin ghost at the end of Return of the Jedi with Hayden Christensen.

I haven't bought the DVDs yet, but this is the one thing I read about the changes that really aggravated me. Is it not possible for Anakin to have aged? Obviously a great deal of time has passed since Episode III, and wouldn't it make sense for Anakin to look older? This seems to be George's biggest mistake in his second set of updates, in my opinion. As the article said, at least they didn't replace Alec Guiness.

Bacteria (not computer, although I suppose it could apply too) evolve regularly. Some strains of staph are now resistant to most antibiotics. I had a case of MRSA (Mesocillin Resistant Staph Aureus) two summers ago after having surgery. It was most unpleasant and only an IV-induced superdrug called Vancomycin could destroy it. So, to me it's not all that surprising that TB is making a comeback. It finally figured out how to immunize itself.

Also, Disney has been projecting images onto water screens for their Fantasmic show. Doesn't work all that great unless you look at the right one from the spot you are sitting, but it's still kinda cool. I was at Disney World about a week ago and they projected an image to make the castle look like the Fantasia sorceror's hat during a fireworks show, and it looked pretty decent.

I go to LSU, and many of the computer science majors switch to ISDS (Information Systems and Decision Sciences, a major in the College of Business). I was a computer science major when I started here, but found that the curriculum was not to my liking, so I switched to ISDS. Many of the students in ISDS have done this, partially because it is a more rounded degree, and partially because the computer science department here isn't all that wonderful.
