    I know this sounds extreme on my part but I would definitely be willing to go to jail rather than have somebody poking around through my files. I have absolutely nothing on my laptop that is illegal, I use it strictly for my development system. Nevertheless, that computer and the files within are private property and none of their damn business. If we put up with this it won't be long until we have to line up outside of our homes so they can search our desktops.

    Now don't get me wrong, I am not an extremist by any means but I DO believe in our civil liberties, and our rights against illegal search and seizure are guaranteed by the Constitution!!! Sometimes I wonder if lawmakers have even read that particular document?!?!?

    I know it is a far-fetched notion but c'mon ... if the government is screwing up who is supposed to hold them accountable??? If there is wrongdoing or misconduct the only people who know about it will be the govt. workers.

    Sometimes the "chain-of-command" just does not work and a person is left with no alternative to appease his conscience but to tell someone with enough visibility to get some action.

    Either we have low paying jobs that don't provide us any medical benefits or we have medium to high paying jobs that we work at constantly to maintain and we don't have time to go to the doctors or eat/exercise correctly.

    It's a loose - loose battle for us.

    In Europe, I believe that the job comes secondary to family and health. They take time to take care of themselves without the fear of not being "one of the team" and giving your job 110%; which I thought was mathematically impossible until I realised that a standard work day SHOULD be 8 hours but they want you to work 9, 10 hours plus (just because they do). We even have MUCH shorter vacation times than do our counterparts in Europe. Most people get, on average, about 2 weeks a year for vacation time. And you can forget about "sick days". I hear that in Europe they get much more than that ... about 3 to 4 times that.

    How about this then. Have a governing body like http://www.w3.org/ or http://www.icann.org/ and have them decide the standards per region. Then you can have a markup like the following:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="INSERT_RATING_HERE" region="US">
    Then the parents can pick the desired region. If it's a liberal household then they can pick France's or Germany's region. If they are puritanical, then they can pick the US region.

    I have always believed it be a law that there be a new "META" tag in HTML. Something of the sorts

    Then ... the parents could set it up in the browser to lock out any page with that tag. It's that simple. No muss, no fuss.

    I agree with the theaters that for some movies it is much better to be seen on the big screen (e.g., Star Wars/Trek, LOTR, King Kong, etc.). Movies where the special effects are a supporting character in itself, really need to be seen larger than life. Movies where the driving force is the plot-line/story, can be seen, IMHO, smaller and more intimately at home on the comfort of your own couch.
