but what happens when the next version of your OS, say Windows Longhorn, for some reason refuses to run WordPerfect (let's not put that past Microsoft)... that's ten years of your documents that will no longer be completely original (sure, they will probably open in Microsoft Word, but the formatting will not be exactly the same).
is the lesson to just use whatever Microsoft shoves down your throat? not really, but there isn't much we can do about that (other than... writing our own word processing software!!)
violated Florida's wiretapping law - which states that it is criminal to 'intentionally intercept' any 'electronic communication.
hang on, doesnt the USA PATRIOT act allow the government to do exactly this? inspect your electronic communications? i'm no expert on US law, so somebody correct me if I'm wrong...
What if you own a large ranch and drive around in it, not on public roads? What if you drive on (private) toll road freeways, like the one we have in Southern California?
i think this is where the GPS comes in - it can detect when you are on public roads.
although, in that case, the gas pump wouldnt communicate with your odometer but instead, just the tracker in your car, because obviously it would have a different counter.
nobody wants to go after the sellers of these DVDs because thats just plain too much work...
these big guys would much rather just pay somebody else to figure out how to make it harder, but it doesnt require getting up.
the issues he was referring to were issues dealing with the release of the source, nothing particular about the comments.
i think they had just meant that there may be algorithms/techniques in the source code (outside of comments, obviously) that they have yet to patent, or may have patented, but just don't want out there.
i'm not exactly sure, but i think venus is too close to the sun, to the point where even without an atmosphere, it would still be too hot for living organisms (or orgasms).
hopefully the re-ignition of the browser wars (namely, from Mozilla Firefox) will at least hold back this type of resolution.
if more people start using Firefox (as the trends are revealing), then even with msn search stitched into Windows, Firefox users will still have their convenient Google search bar in their browser =)
as for desktop search, google will have to put up quite a feirce fight, innovating before microsoft, and consistenly outperforming.
if you're looking to control your desktop with your PDA, you can, as this guy did.
also, just to clarify, i think you meant your device does a hard reset when the battery dies (the backup too!)
normally the backup battery is a safeguard to protect your data until you can recharge (you can't turn on your PDA while running on the backup).
so unless your backup battery was dead, or you left a long time between battery dying and getting a recharge, you shouldn't have lost anything.
my biggest regret from high school is what i did after it - attending university.
i'm a third year CSC student at the University of Toronto, and im sick of it.
im confident i have the ability to perform well in the labour market, and i just want to work, and learn whatever i want to learn in my spare time, and stop swallowing all the junk that the University shoves down my throat.
I mean it's great for some people, especially those who want to move onto grad. school, but its not for me, and I realize that just now. There are some important things I've picked up, that I could have easily picked up from reading some books that I'd have found interesting, but otherwise, I don't enjoy being a CSC student, namely because U of T is mostly a theoretical computer science school, and im really just not into that.
the only reason i'm still in school is cuz i only have one more year, and would rather not blow the investment i poured in to the first 3 years.
so my biggest regret in high school was giving in to pressure from my family to attend University, as they are still so narrow-minded to think it will be only way for me to land a good job. boy, were they wrong.
a technology of this can also be quite dangerous at times:
imagine you're crusing down the street at 70km/h [44mph] and you drop your twinkie [or any other food or beverage you may happen to be consuming] onto the floor. naturally, you reach down to pick up the fallen foods, and imagine your breaks are automatically applied, bringing your head right into your steering wheel, causing an enourmous gash on your forehead, and you start bleeding uncontrollably and grip the steering wheel, and you swerve trying to take back control of the car, but you're on a bridge, so you slam into the side rails and right off the bridge into the river below...
so when will this A element's attribute become part of the XHTML spec? =)
i think its a great idea, and when powerhouses like Google, MSN and Yahoo! are promoting this sort of thing, blogging software's bound to jump on the bandwagon eventually.
hmmm.... last time i checked, 26% + 13% was 39% i didnt realize he meant statistical variance (if that is indeed what he meant), i just looked at the difference:P
why do i get the feeling that somehow, some jerk out there is gonna find some way to blame his stupidity on sony, and successfully sue them for not making good enough software, thereby forcing him to download rogue software from the Interweb and install it... yes, its a conspiracy, and Sony is out to get ya!
i don't think the fact that robots can beat humans is questioned here - i think the whole point behind this announcement is the projected date of robots beating humans (i.e. we know it will happen, its a matter of when - and thats what the japanese here are addressing)

the actual reason the buttons stick is because of a sloppy worker at the assembly line working while eating fast food on his lunch...
if you lick the buttons, you can almost take the burger king secret sauce

i don't think i've seen that "OMG Movie LOL" movie yet... was that the horrible one with Neve Cambell?

Does that imply that 90% of the world is using MSN Messenger?
but then where will i get my illicit viagra that i so desparately need, apparently??

is there any way to change the units of measurement from mi to km?
toronto and some other major canadian cities are mapped pretty well on this thing, i am *extremely* impressed!
or, we can take our cue from The Core (2003) and try to detonate a nuclear explosion in the core of the planet, to get its juices flowing again =)

i think the word "preview" was in quotes for a reason - the /. editors clearly knew this was a joke :P

pffft, safety my ass...
i thought the point of the article was that using markup allowed developers to extend the languages they're working with.

it's only a matter of time before we see spacedriving ;-)
How does 26% - 40% vary over 50%? It looks more like 14% variance to me...
