The theory is that there will be stuff coming down the elevator as well as going up it. "Eventually" (assuming lunar and asteroid mining is viable) there will be so much stuff coming down that the "up" travel is essentially "free" in terms of energy useage.
I have a 400W Zalman (ZM400B-APS) "noiseless" PSU - the fan only switches on when the internal temperature ramps up above some certain point.
It's infinitely quieter than the 450W noname brand I had before, and probably much more reliable, too.
I have an EleeNo Art 8, and I have to say, it's an utterly beautiful analogue watch - sure, it takes slightly longer than usual to work out what the time is, but it looks so damned good!
I once (in my brazen youth) just took the price sticker off one game (NBA Jam for $19) and swapped it for the price sticker on what I wanted (Pro Action Replay 2, $99) and got away with it... none of this fancy hi-tech foolery for me!
...now how about they get rid of this god-awful heirarchy thing they have happening here?
In Windows Explorer, the topmost level is the desktop, while in the CLI, there's as many 'topmost' levels as there are drives in the machine.
I never thought I'd say this, but I think they should adopt a *nix-like heirarchy, so that anything can be 'mounted' anywhere. Of course, they'd have to change the structure significantly, and have a built-in translator for "C:\things\stuff" type commands and whatnot.
But then, it'd probably be so hard to change all that, that they'd be better off doing an Apple OSX trick, and we all know how likely that would be...
And how exactly are the Shuttles "amazingly safe", did you just wake from a coma and missed the last re-entry disaster?
There's been two 'incidents' in 24 years, and 114 launches. That's a 0.017% failure rate. I wish my bike (I'm a bike courier) had a failure rate that low.
So, if NASA wants to cut back on their budget expenses, then they should be cutting back on the waste. The Shuttle is a great design in that it's largely reuseable, thus reducing the waste materials, and the expense of replacing/rebuilding them.
Using two largely un-reuseable rockets to blast crew and payload into space is a massive waste of resources, and thus funding.
The only reason for this waste of money is the increased safety of launching humans into space, and let's face it; riding the Shuttle is amazingly safe, considering that it's riding on the back of a pair of gigantic sticks of dynamite, and a jar of highly flammable gasses.
* I block all 'intellitext' scripts because they almost always offer absolutely nothing relative to the article I'm reading, and they annoy me when I accidentally hover the mouse over one, and the 'tooltip' pops up.
* Inline ads always interfere with the page layout; especially on newspaper pages, when the column of text is only 10-15 words across anyway, and the size of a typical inline ad in this situation is about 5-7 words across.
* Popup and "Popunder" usually distract me from the article at hand, and are evil, so they get blocked out of hand.
* Finally, I'm just not interested in about 99% of the ads on the internet. I live in Australia, and so I have no interest in Newegg having a sale on PC cases or whatever. Besides, I just don't have the money anyway, and if/when I do, and want to buy something, then I'll go to whatever place I want to buy from of my own compunction.
* Introduced Species, check
* Predatory behaviour, check
* Running unchecked in the Australian bush, check
Considering how much damage smaller introduced animals (cats, dogs, rats, mice, rabbits, foxes, cane toads, et al) have done to our wildlife, do we really want much larger ones running around unchecked?
I'd say not - the real question is how this guy managed to have a gun, given our mega tight gun laws:D
So why is your definition of what is and is not music more important than anybody else's then?
A hundred years ago, Atonality was the 'new thing' and it was to give birth to Serialism. Naturally, the uneducated fools of the time proclaimed such things to not be "music" - famously, there was that so-called "riot" at the premiere of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, which is now considered to be one of the finest pieces of music written in the 20th century.
Fast-forward to modern times though, and you wouldn't enjoy your television, cinema and gaming experiences nearly as much if it were not for the work of those pioneers who were writing things that were not "music" - so perhaps that sort of narrow-minded view is best left buried.
Just because you do not like a thing, does not mean that thing is wrong, does not mean that point of view is incorrect; it's like a farmer telling a city dweller that a domesticated mouse/rat is not a pet, and it should be destroyed because to him, it is vermin.
John Cage was writing purely "random" music in the 50's, and seeing as he used actual chance procedures with physical tools such as dice, Chi sticks, playing cards, etc, I'd say that his music would be "more random" than anything produced by a computer algorithm.
He was also an important philosopher, and with his piece 4'33" , he broadened the definition of what is and is not music, just for all you people who are claiming that this stuff "isn't music"
Whatever happened to the Cold Dark Matter (each pound of which weighs over 10,000 pounds!) theory, where gravitational & mass anomolies were explained by the existance of such a substance?

well, I always knew it was good at inducing something, just not this...
well, ScummVM certainly doesn't allow me to play my "backup version" of Day of the Tentacle - the copy protection quiz is there in full effect :(
Come on, Dreamworks! Please let this classic game be remastered is high-resolution video!
is that a beowulf cluster in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
well.. somebody's going to be very very dizzy...

I have a data entry job, which pays $35(Australian) per hour
I am also a bicycle courier, and get paid $16.40p/h
Guess which job I like doing more?
What's an "average CD album"?
as a Composer, I wholeheartedly agree with the afore-mentioned sentiment.

Or use a calculator, apparently...

So how long until somebody hacks this to allow control via USB input device? :D
You could control your car as if it really were a GTA game!
