Not all people have problems with Norton. I run Norton's total security on my XP laptop and have had no problems. Norton total security has anti-virus, pop-up blocker, and a firewall (Spy-bot and Adware handle spyware for me).
Perhaps the problem wasn't Norton, but something else on the laptop.
Confusing "geek speak" used by experts and media included "phishing", "rogue dialer", "Trojan" and "spyware".
First off, a lot of people in the media have no idea what 'phishing' is, they're just reading off of a teleprompt. Secondly, so users don't know what all of the terms mean. They don't need to know as long as they know what is okay and what isn't. e.g. When the check engine light comes on, how many people can diagnose the problem? "Not many, that's why we have mechanics. How many people know how to buy on margin? How many people know how to dispose of a dead body? Thirdly, if you are an expert in technical mumbo-jumbo, you know you have to numb-it-up for non-technical people.
Or having an epileptic seizure causing your phone to dial a foreign exchange, while your MP3 deletes its memory, and your car locks/unlocks/windows down/windows up/open trunk.....
The market is full of PHBs. True Enough, however the market is also full of Wallys too. It's better to say that society is learning to rid itself of dead weight (blue and white collar) than to say it's getting rid of PHBs.
But there's a sad truth, evident to anyone who has dipped into that world... and that is, except for their brown-nosing skills and personal connections, business people, management, financial/accountants are mostly useless. It's questionable whether they have any real skills. And now society is starting to question whether these people have any value in the real sense of the word.
One queen bee, and a bunch of worker bees. It's obvious that the worker bees do all the work, but without the queen bee, the hive dies. Business is no different.
It seems that all space games have the same problem. They either:
1. Use 2-d movement (X and Y only)
2. Or movement in space is handle like an airplane on Earth (Slowing down because of wind(?) sheer)
I would prefer a space game with great physics over a "pretty" GUI.
I can see it now.
A rain slick road...sharp curve...crash...and a person with facial injuries unable to dial 911 because the phone doesn't recognize him/her.
True that some systems will be vunerable at a locally/physical level. But look at how difficult it is to gain access locally to that machine.
If we look at a standard office, the servers are normally under lock and key. If we look at a machine in your house, you probably lock your doors when your not at home.
All in all, this is not even close to the problem MS has with their exploits.
Stealing intellectual property is wrong. But the problem is the "What is intellectual property".
It seems that the person who "owns" the intellectual property is the person with the best lawyer in the court.
If two people claim a XYZ item is their's, they go to court, someone is going to lose. The loser is infringing on the winner's intellectual property.
The problem is people will patent something (Let's say virtual [3d] chat rooms). There is currently a patent on 3d chat rooms, but the company has not made any effort to create a working model.
If you create a 3d chat room (you got a wild hare one night)...you are in voliation of someone's intellectual property.
Why? Because the law/lawyers/courts say so.
The root problem is not some kid downloading mp3s from the internet. The problem is how the law regarding intellectual property kills innovation.

Less TV != Less Socializing nor does More Internet mean More Socializing.
If you watch less TV and spend time in chat room and forums, you are actually socializing more with other people (/. may or may not be included ).
When you watch TV, do you watch it with other people? If you do, do you talk to them while the show is on...probably not. But if you are on the internet talking to people in a forum, more than likely you are also watching your email, IM other people, or have another chat/forum open. You are actually doing something other than absorbing mindless crap from the TV.
In reality, MORE is to LESS as TV is to SOCIALIZING.

Guess it depends on where you look. Circuit City had almost all Intel processor laptops while Best Buy had a better mix (about 15% of them were AMD).
