I've found tons of open source projects that are exclusive for linux. Well, guess what. I need windows. Whenever I see one of those "linux-only" open source software, i feel betrayed. I'm *NOT* ready for the jump yet!
Specially because my motherboard is linux-unfriendly.
This is why I put so much emphasis on cross-platform software. Why do you think Firefox got so popular? Just because it's open source? Because it runs on Linux? NO! Mostly because it runs on Windows!
So, whenever I see comments on new cool open source software, I feel tempted to ask: "Yes, but does it run on Windows?" And trust me, I'm NOT trolling. There's just this need for windows software that some OSS/Linux zealots seem to ignore.
This is what PHP programmers have known for a LONG time.
Just as you can hack some javascript to prevent validation, what makes them think we can't run some remote control software whose client happens to run on... *GASP* your own machine!
But what are they gonna do next? Introduce captchas into the game every 5 minutes?
No, sir. The answer is changing THE GAME RULES (the equivalent of validating user input in the server, not the client) so that quick advancement is not done. i.e. restrict repetitive training to N hours, and such.
I imagine an interface similar to the one at sourceforge...
the Microsoft bugs would say something like:
Blue Screen if I do this... (Open) Crash If I do that... (Open) Vulnerability in file... (Open) Blue Screen if I do this... (Open) Crash If I do that... (Open) Vulnerability in file... (Open) Blue Screen if I do this... (Open) Crash If I do that... (Open) Vulnerability in file... (Open) Blue Screen if I do this... (Open) Crash If I do that... (Open)
Then perhaps the first thing to do would be to make the components separate, i.e. download OpenOffice Writer. Why should I need to download Base, Calc if i only want to write my literature homework?
But gene therapy using viruses generally doesn't affect the testicles or ovaries - see that's the part that carries the genetic information and spreads it to the offspring - and AFAIK, AIDS targets only white cells.
Besides, if permanent, inheritable gene therapy had been discovered, there wouldn't be any cases of Down syndrome and other diseases, because people would've been vaccined already!
heck, we could have vaccined people with the delta-32 gene and get rid of AIDS once and for all!
the article uses zdnet blogs as its main information source?
In any case, i think the author lost the connection. It's not like Microsoft got suddenly lobotomized (they know that if they charge too much, their customers will flee elsewhere).
Microsoft's "hosted everything" (if real) is probably nothing but a response to the Google Office initiative.
The article author is just putting words in Microsoft's mouth.
May I be the first to answer...

Cranks have always existed, people selling snake oil, etc. What amazes me is that currently many forms of religious intolerance and fanatism are present, not only christian fundamentalism. We see UFO believers, people seeking the enlightened masters of the east, reincarnation, psychics, crystals to protect your aura, chakra healing courses, etc.
The traditional idea of a christian God who puts order in the universe is now considered obsolete. People seek quick solutions to their problems, and because they don't find them in the material world, they start seeking answers which will satisfy them: Someone must have cursed you, you are suffering from Karma due to evil actions on your past lives, the stars are misaligned... etc.
And these stupid answers satisfy people. People are too lazy to see how things work, because they see no immediate gain.
Immediate satisfaction, that's what's driving the world today. You see it in porn, diet pills, the Iraq Invasion (where's Osama? Who cares, George W fought those evil terrorists!), etc. And since people are getting accustomed to quick solutions, their mentality has no longer appreciation for science or history.
But this is a more complex problem, it can't be oversimplified. Many factors come into play. The corrupted governments, the dissolution of moral teachings, etc.
But if you want a one-word answer, i'd say it's "neglect". On all levels. Family, government, politics, school... people just didn't care for anyone but themselves. Obviously this ended up affecting their children and their children's children, resulting in the society that we see today.
Costume 1: Guy disguises himself as a zombie and puts on a cardboard monitor. Here instead of "brainssssssss" he should say: "mailssssssssssss"
Costume 2: A fat guy carrying a chair, with a Google T-Shirt (and the handwritten letters above: "I'll F**ing Kill". Obviously his secondary target would be the guy wearing costume 1.
Now the following may be off-topic, but what the heck, I got started!
Costume 3: Just put on a Bill Gates mask, and wear a Microsoft T-Shirt. And instead of "Trick or treat", you say: "End User License Agreement".
Costume 4: Disguise yourself as a Lawyer and stick the logos of BMG, Sony, Time Warner (did I miss any?) on the back. Instead of "Trick or treat", say "Court or Settlement"
Costume 5: Disguise yourself as Zombie, but instead of wearing the cardboard monitor, just put an AOL sticker on your shirt. You're an official "AOL user". Instead of moaning "brainssss" you'll say: "Me, tooooo!"
Costume 6: Disguise yourself as a monitor, and paint the front in blue.:)
Costume 7: Paint your face black and buy fake jewelry. Pretend you're the relative of a Nigerian prince who just died.
yet still seem able to communicate sufficiently with each other

"video games, television and the Internet are good for us".
In the first place, I didn't know videogames (tetris, pacman, Grand Tourismo), Television (Junkyard wars, animal showdown, Wolf's Rain), and the Internet (wikipedia) were bad for us.
And I can't think of ANYONE (except extreme fundamentalists) who thinks that ALL videogames, ALL Television and ALL the internet are bad for us.
Julius made his debut in Aria of Sorrow. He was called "J", and he had amnesia. When Soma became Dracula, Julius regained his memory. He had fought Dracula a few years ago, sealing the Castle with the "Vampire Killer" (the whip). But now that Soma was Dracula, it was Julius' duty to stop him (even by killing him).
It wasn't the first time in the Castlevania series you had to fight a Belmont (SoTN, Circle of the Moon, Lament of Innocence - the doppleganger -), but it certainly was the most exciting. Everytime I replay Aria of Sorrow, it's to beat Julius with no weapons or souls, and to try to break my record (HP lost). Plus, the boss music for this battle is awesome (it's a heavy-metal remake of "Heart of Fire" and other castlevania songs).
So having Julius in "Dawn" was certainly a must. I really hope that for the boss battle vs. Julius (as spoiled in one of the trailers), they really have improved the AI. The AI in "Aria" was difficult for Julius, but once you learn his behavior it gets kinda boring. However, it doesn't stop surprising you once in a while, making a move you didn't expect. Just this boss battle is like having a mini "beat-em-up" game inside.:D
I still haven't played Dawn of Sorrow, but suddenly the idea of having a 3D world with 2D slices of it, i.e. a corridor which leads to more corridors by opening a door, and a 2D upside-down map on the top screen.
In other words, we don't need 3D first-person views to enjoy a 3D world. An interesting example of this was the "project firestart" game for the C64, even when it was "2D", I had to make 3 topdown maps for the game (a map for each floor). If I didn't look well, I could get lost in dangerous alleys full of monsters.
In any case, I feel excited about this Castlevania installment.
The soul collecting modification adds a lot to the game, because once you have each of a soul (like in Aria of Sorrow), there's nothing else to do.
I also hope this installment has hidden areas like in AoS. The Forbidden Zone was one of the most mysterious and exciting areas to explore. I kept hoping there would be even more hidden levels in that.

Trying to control the client is nonsense.
I guess BSD really is dead now :/
:D
It's not dead! It's KIRBY!
The phrase "but does it run linux" (in the slashdot subculture article) will be printed worldwide! :D
We're gonna be famous, guys!

they could face lawsuits for jeopardizing a computer's security with this rootkit?
Your comment just made an evil and twisted idea hit my radar screen.
1) Promote OpenOffice
2) See Microsoft lose most of its money
3) Buy MS Stock
4) Own MS
5) Profit!!
(and I wonder why nobody hasn't asked)
why are they doing this? What can Google possibly obtain? I know, the enemy of my enemy is my friend but... what's in their agenda?

The merger may have re-created a monopoly, but that alone is insufficient to maintain it.
Welcome to the 21st Century, Grandma Bell!

Gee, we have progressed!

Fortunately, there's MinGW, various IDE's, and a bunch of
Open source
