The revolution will be able to support current gamecube controllers as well, so I'm wondering if he is dismissing the entire revolution platform, or just the controller? I think we will still see lots of interesting things come out of the revolution that don't particularly use its controller or use a gamecube one instead.
As someone much wiser than me said, "the desktops war is over, Linux didn't win". Seriously, although desktops are still a large part of our lives, they aren't really where the "future" is going. There is a significant inertia in changing your desktop operating system. Here is the real reason why linux hasn't gained more market share: MOST PEOPLE JUST DON'T FUCKING CARE WHAT THEIR DESKTOP OS IS!!
Seriously, Windows does a good enough job for most people, so why change? Obviously as enthusiasts we see things differently, but in the end to most people a computer is a tool. In the end I think it would be beneficial to linux to focus on things such as mobile computing and servers.
Also, I know I will get flamed for this, but why does Linux's market share really matter? It's not like Linux is in any danger of disappearing, so why does it bother people so much when others use different operating systems? I used to be a mac zealot till I came upon the revelation that someone else using Windows really doesn't detract from my OS experience one bit. Why is linux any different? Other than perhaps you are trying to fight an ideological war, in which case it is no wonder people ignore linux. We get preached at enough as it is...
As a nintendo stockholder(yes, for real:P though buying at 52 week highs isn't the smartest idea in the world...) I say you are clearly missing something. Everyone loves good wholesome Nintendo fun that you can only get with Nintendo's fine products. Yes, look for the NIntendo seal of quality at fine retailers everywhere!
I'm an American but I have managed to pull down tech jobs in Japan and Germany before I turned 25..what a difference! Germany is especially nice in regard to biking, in almost every major city there are seperate bike paths(only for bikes, bikers will get pissed off if you walk in them!) Even here in Bavarian cow country you can pretty much safely bike between almost any 2 towns(some farmland excluded). The paths might not be the nicest thing in the world, but it sure as hell beats risking your life trying to compete with that soccer mom driving her tank.
However, Americans over-reliance on cars kills in another, much more subtle way. I realized that in Germany and Japan, the number of grossly overweight people is much less than that in the states. And as a consequence they spend much less as a percentage of their GDP on healthcare. In Japan one could argue that the diet(although changing) is naturally low in fat(although extremely high in sodium! Not to mention their love affair with mayo), but here in Germany life is all about beer and sausage. Those Germans can do things with pig that are not human! But still, a lot less people are overweight compared to the states? Why?
Well, one thing I noticed is that Germany and Japan are, for the most part, not set up in such a way that you drive your car directly from your house to your destination like you do in America. Either you take public transport or you put your car in a garage that isn't right next to your place of work. Thus I would estimate that the average German/Japanese gets at least 30 minutes of walking in a day, versus many Americans who maybe get half that. May not sound like much, but added up over a lifetime it can really add up. Obesity is quickly becoming, according to the CDC, one of the highest causes of preventable death....
however all the text is in English, and of course gba games are region free, so you can still have a chance to play it in (close to) the original format if you can find an import copy.
He basically reviews a really old game that wasn't released in the US initially, but did find its way into super mario all stars (what was it, 10 years ago?)with updated graphics. Why review the original is beyond me unless you really wanted to see if Nintendo made any gameplay differences(the author never talks about the differences, if they exist)
You want people to switch, but to what? The reason they are throttling is because of the high cost. So you think that some ISP should come up and jump up and down and say, "Hey, we can provide you great service for low cost and we will just take it up the ass"
If you are willing to do so, then be my guest. Otherwise, realize that it is their network, they can do whatever they want with it.
Or it could just be that both sides are pointlessly bashing each other because things are failing at home/abroad. Europeans are also guilty of pointless America-bashing.
The US is involved in a stupid, pointless contest to see how many lives they can destroy while wasting huge amounts of capital and international goodwill. Capital that could be going to ensuring that Americans remain competitive in the global marketplace etc. And of course when someone mentions that the neocons accuse the person of being "French" like that is an insult. Enough, it is pointless and counterproductive.
Meanwhile, Europe is spinning around in circles and can't decide what it wants. You want the Euro to be the worlds new reserve currency? Say goodbye to your manufacturing sector. But Europe seems to want to have it both ways. On one hand they are screaming about free trade on the other they are blocking Chinese imports. They want to be seen as the land of tolerance and yet the European immigrants(most of whom weren't supposed to be immigrants, they were supposed to be "temporary guest workers" and should have gone home by now, but nobody in Europe likes to admit that) find it much more difficult to integrate into society compared to the US. Not to mention as a whole the EU birth rate is 1.5 children per woman(the only country that comes close to replacement in western Europe is France at 1.9), so the demographic mess Europe is going to be facing will be horrible, but nobody seems willing to do anything about it. They seem to prefer bashing Americans because that is easier than solving problems.
Meanwhile Asia's economies are ramping up and ready to destroy the economies of Europe and North America. I'm an American living in Germany and my plan now is to go home, get a masters degree while America's universities are still worth something, and study my ass off to learn Korean.
The west is dooming itself. If Europe and America really want to thrive in the upcoming century, then they really should be working together. While most hate to admit it, they have similar cultural backgrounds. The economies of both nations are much more alike than the economies of say Europe and China. And they are both facing some of the same social problems, most notably the aforementioned aging population problem. They should be cooperating instead of bickering like children, but as politicians on both sides of the Atlantic have shown, bickering is much easier than humility and doing something....
But, that is just me talking.

Meh, this is slashdot, where it seems most of the stories that get accepted aren't really "tech" at all so much as they are ideological drivel with some conspiracy theories thrown in. You want insightful news go somewhere else, that is what I am going to do. I'm sick of this site and all its fanboys....
No, read the article. Basically Silicon Valley is growing, but it is becoming much more "top heavy" as it were; they are hiring very skilled engineers and creative types while outsourcing the grunt work for the most part to India. Of courese this has long term implications, but thats another story.
Um, just tell me where you can get a PC with the same form factor as the mini for $600. The only thing I have seen that comes close is the AOpen MZ855-II XC Cube, and for the case, power supply, and a few extras it will set you back $299, and that doesn't include the CPU. Since it uses a mobile CPU, you are going to pay at least $200 for it OEM. Then you have to add a hard drive, optical drive etc.
So yeah, it may not matter to you, but it does to a lot of people. Apple is still making a profit, so I don't see why they should destroy that just to make you happy.
(I'd say 'sympathy' but at least they seem not to be complacent sheep-like Americans).
Um, dude, I know the whole "America sucks" thing is trendy and all, and you would HATE to be a bad sheep and be left off the bandwagon, but how many Chinese have you actually talked to? I had a lot of contact with them before I graduated, and they are much bigger sheep than Americans are. My roommate CONSTANTLY tried to goad me into an argument about Taiwan, my somewhat girlfriend liked to spew the party line like there was no tomorrow, my other roommates sang Chinese nationalist songs....so yeah...not sheep at all....nope, no sheep there....
You really need to get out and see the world for a reality check.
Based on the domain in his email, I'm guessing his company is called Koan Logic.
But good luck finding anything concrete there. For example, from the introduction:
KoanLogic was formed aiming to create products of tangible quality for its Clients and together with them. The company makes use of its diverse yet highly qualified technical personnel and a well-structured development method, which can be adapted contextually.
KL is enveloped within the ICT industry providing consulting and development services for those IT projects with high technical content.
Um, what? I can't hear you over all the buzzwords....
I remember my sister had a dance game where the goal was to hit certain buttons on the power pad set a la DDR. It never did take off like DDR did some years later.
Even though I'm terribly uncoordinated I did beat the game; I found that if you plugged in a controller and hit "select" it advanced you to the next level.

From the article they seem to be workstations. So why promote them in the same way they promote consumer machines? First and foremost Dell is a brand name as much as anything, and their goal is to give their customers similiar experiences regardless of which Dell consumer grade machine they buy. And part of that experience includes Windows.
However, businesses are a different story. For the most part(cue cynics) you are going to have people who know what they need and will go straight for it. Why should Dell spend a lot of money with "promotions" that won't mean anything to their target audience?
It's nice that Dell is selling Linux machines, but lets not pretend this represents any sort of great ideological shift at the Dell corporation.....

The internet has made it much easier for these smaller companies to actually sell these devices without having to have massive global production and distribution mechanisms in place. However, smaller volume also means it is MUCH harder to get good reviews on the products. There are web boards, but they can easily be co-opted
So is it even possible to find an honest place for reviews of not so mainstream products?
