They were running on PowerMac G5 dev kits, not the CPU/GPU combo the XBox360 will have. Again, nobody has seen frame one come from either of these systems yet.
None of these morons have even seen a single frame of video generated by EITHER the PS3 or the XBOX360. It's nice to see the ancient art of "mag-racing" still being practiced.........but not really.
If you like the old Screensavers, you'll love the "This Week In Tech" podcast. It's all the old TSS folk talking about what they like to talk about. No more lame "which broadband router is the best blah blah" crap. Just good ol' fashioned geeks talkin about cool shit.
I didn't know Bill Gates posted on slashdot, but thanks dear Billy for your biased opinion... and BTW, you won't get poorer letting this guys go...
It would be at least a few years and many hours of downtime before they would see any of that money recouped. As someone who has sat down and done an actual cost analysis, I can tell you, it's not cheap to switch to something that's "free" (beer).
......You're getting off EXTREMELY cheap. If you switch to a different OS, or OSS, you'll easily spend more than that (many times more) in hiring people to support the new infrastructure.
It's not uncommon for users to have several GB of email on the server and multiple archive files. Disk is cheap, backup windows are MASSIVE. At what point does reliability outweigh convenience? According to users? NEVER.
"But quite frankly, if the cheats can make Sony richer in the short term, what do Sony really care?"
Exactly. They need to make the money back that they spent developing this game. It clearly isn't doing that, AND they're losing customers to the competition. Sony has written this game off. It's no longer a long-term venture for them. It's the MMO maker equivalent of "selling off".
They have to do SOMETHING to keep customers. Now they're whoring out their own IP. Fantastic. They can only get people to play if it's economically advantageous for them to do so, rather than making the game FUN TO PLAY. They have just shot the horse.
That doesn't mean it will never get dirty.
"New streamlined interface! No "My" prefix means 2 less letters to read, increasing productivity!"
Wardialing, Wardriving, Warspying is dead. Now is the time of podcasting, roadcasting, etc. I, for one, welcome our new buzz-slinging overloards.
My bad. I was thinking they would re-arch everything, just to start anew.
I would guess "no". They're probably going to re-arch the way these chips access RAM and components as well.
Not me. I read Slashdot from the bitstream as it comes over the wire. I'm THAT hardcore.
...the rehashing of what we just reiterated, we bring you this article.

.....you backup redundancy!

"Back it in, slowly.....slowly....stop."

.....that even God hates spam.
Exactly how is Longhorn more secure than Linux?
Even LESS people will use it!
Use of "electronic mail" has increased.
Projectors are as cheap or cheaper than laptops.
Yeah, if projectors didn't exist.
And then they shut the thing down.

When will they just admit defeat?
19. Yeah, it won't suck too bad.
