The last great hope for HD DVD is that they "convince" (financially) one of the Blu-Ray partners (think: Fox) with a LOT of money to dump Blu-Ray for HD DVD. Given the Warner example, the gap between their Blu-Ray and HD DVD sales, though into the ten's of millions, was not on the order of $100M, so monetarily convincing Fox could be in the $200-$250M range.
I don't have any preference over either format as I've purchased both, but I did think HD DVD was going to "win" prior to the Warner announcement. At least with Blu-Ray you get the original Transformers the Movie on Blu-Ray disc in the U.K. that can be bought from amazon.co.uk.
There is currently a huge amount of space garbage orbiting the earth. There is also a good amount of leftovers on the moon (not to mention a flag or two).
Even given that said space junk's orbit will eventually decay, some may or may not. Even given that the moon will be bombarded with all sorts of asteroids and tasty rocks, our said junk on the Moon may not get oblitterated or decay - it may just end up in the Moon's trunk (the ground...think 2001).

Has anyone every stopped to think this might be too fast for its own good?
Isn't there a point when we've reached a speed where rather than deciding what to send from one place to another, we become lazy and start sending everything?
And won't that just lead to massive researcher mp3 swaps?:P
The words "real" and "normal" are only relative terms.
The true language is the language of the heart, and such, what makes me laugh is "real" to me and I find "funny." And since our hearts are different, we laugh at different things.
This geek/gamer/etc (Think us who read slashdot!) find something funny, it's not neccesarily comedy by classical terms, but it works for us.
Example: I find it hilarious when webcomics incorporate the personalities of friends of the authors into the strips! Those just rule, when you can understand some part of someone you know making it online into our own little "in joke."
I mean, to tell you the truth, even I (and ~mcsneer) have our own crappy webcomic! Anyone can have one, and as such, once companies run out of stuff to release / once demand eats up all the market has to offer, junk such as what I work on might even *SHOCK* get out there!
I remember when the stock shot up... "This can make money?" some people thought. The answer to what RH is going to do now is actually in yesterday's news item about making money on this sort of thing...
I remember trying to download Fedora...hahaha that took forever.
I remember wanting to try it out...I guess I will now that I have a work-issued laptop that's better than my personal one. Time to play with Fedora on my Inspiron 8600!:P
If you have ever read a book called "Looking Backward" they deal with this by making people when they first start working taking the remedial jobs, and then you can, after a short period, go on to other jobs if you want.
They don't have patents in Star Trek. They don't have copyright problems.
The only times I saw where a lawyer was absolutely needed in Star Trek was Star Trek IV when Kirk is in trouble for disobeying orders, and Star Trek VI (But remember, these were the Klingons, not part of the UFP, so not really an issue)
That playing pool with planets is a perfectly good way to plug up a white hole.

This is what slashdot has become??
Slasherdot.
If you look on the right side of their product page, it lists a "Teleporter" for Q2 2008... Beam me up!
My Solitaire stats in Vista:

Johnny Five ... ALIVE!
Need I say more?
That's a brilliant point and makes perfect sense.
Cheers.
Be careful what you wish for.
Something "free" or "cheap" might be so for a reason.
I still say best open source is that tied to proprietary hardware then you really cash in.
As for la-dee-dah software, operating systems, etc, I stay away from those.
Oh no! Was it hacked because for flutist it says "The Flautist!!!" Maybe it was that girl who did SCO.
At least I've been to that site.
But really, I WANT THAT RING!!!
Prrreeciousss!!!

For me, Slashdot has never known any other way...
/. is fine. :D
So for me,
What I'm interested in is:
Out of the people who downloaded FireFox in this "huge" splurge, how many of them were using either Mozilla or a previous version of FireFox?
Because I suspect that is a *very* high number.
"And then the Cyborgs came."
The words "real" and "normal" are only relative terms.
:D

Shameless plug: http://www.animeod.com/zaenoopress/
But anyhoo... just imagine if something like what WE did was made into flash and then released onto DVD....
It would indeed be a sad day.
"And then he consumed them."
In the name of all the fans out there, let me serve as counsel.
:D
SB is part of the comedy nuvo, the online WTF OMGBBQ generation. For us, this kind of thing is just awesome.
Sometimes something that makes no sense, is completely off topic, or just utterly stupid gets the best laughs.
I know people who say out loud "Dot dot dot..."
The same crowd who's into these things
To quote a friend of mine.
"Homestar runner is the online event of our generation."

You'll be addicted...fast.
I am pleased but sticky about this.
Yes it is great these are coming to DVD.
Yes it is huge for the sub-industry.
BUT, as with what we saw happen to anime, eventually the sludge will come too.
Beware!
Doooomed! Dooomed!

Is there a way to check for similar passwords in someone's history without 1)violating their privacy 2)compromising their password ?
Just a thought.
But you are totally correct in that conundrum!
If you have ever read a book called "Looking Backward" they deal with this by making people when they first start working taking the remedial jobs, and then you can, after a short period, go on to other jobs if you want.
It works, and isn't a bad idea by any means.
I'm sorry everyone, but this guy isn't even CLOSE to having everything ever recorded / released on a CD by a (major) company.
ASCAP alone has over 200,000 composers, songwriters, lyricists, and music publishers, and they are only a piece of the whole puzzle.
At Amazon.com, just for the *Classical* genre, there are 32,000 sales-ranked CDs. Do the math, it cannot be done.
I really like the size of this thing.
I can already see it...the lunchbox laptop!
Star Trek is not drivel.
They don't have patents in Star Trek. They don't have copyright problems.

Star Trek *IS* the perfect model.
Star Trek is life.
