Now, I could be wrong, but do you maybe think that it might be because the people working the machines had no flipping clue as to what they were doing?

Ahh, the irony inherent in your post. In case you haven't been following, most PnP D&Ders find the game laughable at best. Really all it is is a crippled Diablo MMO set in ebberon, a world which is can basically be described as magipunk which the majority of PnPers have yet to touch. If I want to play in that setting I'll grab either D20 Modern or Shadowrun thank you.

If you look at the crime rates in america, one would surmise that the study is bullshit simply because there are much more violent games out today than there were 20 years ago, yet the crime rate has since '91 been pretty steadily fropping, as computers and therefore violent computer games become more and more accessable to the public. The opposite correlation is present from the correlation they show. And oddly enough, I haven't heard of a rash of geek spree killers occuring

Why should the US care about an organization that is rife with corruption on the part of it's constituents. As always, the UN is a prime case of a great Ideal smashed against the rocky reef of Reality. The fourth part of your three part plan would be the US bribing the members of the UN to allow us to do normal business evading any sanctions put upon it

This has been going on for years. Thing is, it was those who read extensively that were neglecting ttheir social life and/or their schoolwork. Since reading extensively for long periods of time takes patience and brainpower. Thus generally people who read a lot were classified as nerds and were considered an estranged group already. They had found their escape from reality and were happy with it. Now that there is a way to escape reality that doesn't take intelligence or especially in the case of D&D, great imagination, it is showing itself in those considered "normal". Suddenly, the fact that these kids are not satisfied with this oh so joyous and friendly reality of ours is a major problem because these kids were POPULAR. Quite funny really.
