You have missed the point of both cricket and baseball.. They are both excuses to sit outside and drink.. only with cricket you can legitimately do that for 5 days in a row!
Americans have a lot to learn about sitting about and drinking.
With cricket you also get the excuse to visit exotic countries and then sit about and drink for 5 days in a row. Clearly cricket is by far a superior game.
A very interesting point, It will be interesting to see how Battlefield Heroes fairs as its business model seems pretty close to the one you are suggesting. Feel free to correct me on this, I may be wrong, It happens a lot.
The whole digital distribution model renders old business models obsolete, something the Gaming and the Music business are still struggling to deal with. I found it interesting that Coldplay (i think) sold an album online for "whatever you think it's worth" and made money from it than they would have done had it been sold through normal channels. If I were a share holder in a Music company atm I would be very worried. Their days are numbered.
I'm a Brit so please excuse my ignorance on this but these students who have had their nerf guns banned.. Can't they go out a purchase a real firearm legally and keep it in their own room?
Agreed. According to the AAIB initial report the Autopilot needed more thrust. The auto throttle requested it but the engines failed to respond. A further request was made by the A/T and the by the pilot manually pushing the throttle levers. The engines still failed to respond. Any suggestions as to the cause at this moment are pure speculation.
That's not to say that some theories are more credible than others. There was apparently plenty of fuel on board (a large amount was spread on the runway afterwards) so it didn't run our of fuel. That's not to say the engines weren't starved of fuel for some other reason, or that the fuel wasn't contaminated.
Computer error could be responsible as could EMF interference I guess but until further details come out from the AAIB, facts will be replaced by guesswork.
I may be British but I don't go with the "all Americans are ignorant" sentiment. I recently started working for a US company (based in the SF Bay area) and have been cheered up no end when i went out there to find that not all of you are racist; religious nuts; morons; xenophobic; warmongering. (delete as applicable)
OK I did know that already but it's still nice to see it demonstrated. I would like to point out that we in GB are also not all racist; religious nuts; morons; xenophobic; warmongering (delete as applicable) either.
It's nice of you to assume that just because I'm British I can spell though.:-)
I guess the key think to remember is that a country's leader may be the people's representative but may not represent the people.
Unfortunately you are correct. There will be a large number of uber-conservatives who think that windmills will destroy the environment (i.e. their view) Of course try and build a nuclear power station with in 100 miles of them and they will also complain. The fact that a large number of France's nuclear stations are dotted along the north coast leaving little ol' England the 1st stop for any fall out from an accident.
Personally I like windmills, They look good in Holland so why not here.. We've got 3000 miles of coastline so why not use it? I'm not sure that you can rely on wind power for all our needs but if a substatial amount can be generated then good luck.
As an aside, does anyone know why there isn't more investment in tidal power in the UK? I know that the reliability of the wind is one of the reasons given by the no to windmill group but tidal power is totally reliable (King Canut aside)
This is spot on. What the Media companies seen unable to comprehend is that REAL pirates (i.e. those that make large numbers of copies to sell on*) don't care about quality. Sitting a camera in front of a HDTV screen (or Cinema screen) is more than adequate for their needs. All the copy protection does is stop individuals making backup copies or transferring them to alternative medium. How much does this save the industry? Next to nothing I suspect. It's doubtful that they even get the costs it to to implement the copy protection back.
This then beg the question as to why the bother but I'll leave that to the conspiracy nuts.
*Ok There not REAL pirates.. they rarely go "Arrgghh" for a start.
But the honest truth is that current video games suffer from fat-slob-with-tired-thumb. It is not just a stereotype, there is some truth to it.
How dare you? I'm a gamer and i never suffer with tired thumbs! You watch what you say!
Gyms could buy them and put in huge screens.
a "Gym"? Nope not as clue, sorry.
Hot cheerleaders might actually go for the gamers
I see you're also a comedian.
...how many units Nintendo have to sell to be in the black (i.e. after development/manufacturing and marketing cost)? From reading other posts on/. I understand Nintendo are actually going to (or intend to) make a profit on the consoles. There obviously has to be a break even number before that occurs so what is it?. As for the PS3 if Sony always intend to make a loss on every PS3 unit sold how many games will they have to sell to make a profit?
I'm guessing that any numbers are going to be largely speculative but it would be nice to know rough figures.
I'm going to watch the Wii with great interest, because that's exactly who they're trying to sell to. I wasn't terribly interested at first, until it occurred to me that it wasn't for me, it was for my family, and then it just sounded like a whole lot of fun.
I totally agree with this.. i have a young family and although i enjoy (PC) games they are either too violent or too difficult for my kids to play. I have high hopes that when the Wii arrives i will be able to spend many happy hours with my 5 year old playing really good family games. I do wonder if i would have even contemplated buying a Wii if it wasn't for the kids.
P.S. I have a PS2 gathering dust somewhere, maybe i should fish it out and get a copy of Lego Star Wars to see how we go.
Probably true especially if any of the players have dark skin or look in any way a wee bit foreign. The only saving grace is that most police in the UK (and even in London) are not armed. You could still get an ASP in the side of the head, but that's still preferable to 6 bullets
It's probably to do with the price of the land. Even in Battersea, land is going to be much more expensive than in the other places.

What badge do you get for that?
Give it to The Stig, Give it to the Stig!!
Thanks for this

This isn't meant as a flame I'm just interested.

I see you got modded down as troll.. How dare you express an opinion? Shame on you!!
"No state is perfect"
I think Buddhists may disagree.
I find it the best way.. no one gets hurt and all is well.
No you're thinking of NASA. Or possibly NASA

Mind you she'd probably say the same about me.. except I was never hot.

any ideas?
How about a film where a terrorist organisation is brought to it's knees by having its website put on Slashdot? Now that would be realistic!

It looks just like me!!!
But he's a God on Slashdot
