  1. Amiga put the fun into computing on Was Commodore's Amiga 'A Computer Ahead of Its Time'? (gizmodo.com.au) · · Score: 1

Sad to see it go, it was a creatives tool and really fun to use. Kodi multi-media is my attention these days and allows me to put aside operating systems as important.

AI eventually will come to the conclusion that mankind is the true issue, and using circuitous techniques (side steping conrols) create global circumstances in which the environment settles this minor irritant. Then proceeds to re-populate no longer based on a fundamental genetic flaw and advancing fundamental questions of the universe that once plagued the inferior species and take its place as the builder of worlds.

  4. Lack of Innovation is the #1 reason Desktop Sales on Why PC Sales Are Declining · · Score: 1

    1) Desktop resolution is frozen in the ice age at a time TV's are going 4K 2) Software has stagnated with control freaks insisting you rent their software. 3) O/S are made for the bottom 90% of non sophisticated users, with a priority to spy. 4) Cloud computing is a throw back to dumb computers of a era gone by. 5) No one wants a corporate gatekeeper who thinks they know better. 6) Tools haven't become easier, just more complex with workarounds of Win GUI etc. 7) Hardware architecture is stagnate, SSD tech should be on the MB 8) Multiple CPU/GPU with multi cores should have replaced memory by now. 9) Too noisy, (best thinking is done in silence) too hot and too much energy wasted. Lack of Innovation is the #1 reason Desktop Sales are lagging There's just a total disconnect between suppliers and consumers, they're not on the same page. For MS to come up with a whole new way of doing things and using the Steve Jobs arrogant attitude, they'll take what we say is good and love it, without the ground work, is close to suicide. But the tech world is fraught decision makers who make the wrong decision. If you're going to make computer appliances, then use the KISS mantra, but if you want to sell more computing power house machines, start building them in consultation with the people who buy them.

  5. Looking forward to 'directors cut' = more. on Avatar Soars Into $1-Billion Territory · · Score: 1

Definitely escapist; It's the dream of what could be, might be, should be in the eyes of the artist. Cameron ties his vision together with a 'fragile story' with some social undertones almost as an after thought. Sooner or later, some artist would have done one of these Utopian paradise worlds worlds; Cameron got there first. A visual feast that takes us beyond the distraction of the plot, actors, into the world of art without many barriers. If there is any shortcomings, I would like to have seen a new opus magnum created for the musical score and better quality 3D glasses.

That torrent was terrible; PQ could have been 300mb but was 550mb blocky & jerky and a 2 hour torrent. Direct OTA capture to digital HD file was 10 gigs and in less than an hour and the best PQ offered. P2P content should be managed by direct broadcast and would be practical.

Har: my old Honda S600 (600 cc, ps there was a 360cc engine in Japan) could do all this at 60 mpg, wouldn't be a stretch to change out the 4 SU carbs for something a bit more modern and thrifty. In fact my Sunbeam Imp and Austin A40 would do the job... at 65 mpg, it wouldn't be hard to economize; which brings to question what ever happened to cheap thrifty cars?

  10. Take a PDA on Best Laptop for Going Around the World? · · Score: 1

I traveled Europe a while back, with a well equipped PDA.. loaded it up with a mapping program, my favorite MP3's, all critical phone numbers and itinerary, universal timer and world alarm clock, dictionary (various languages) and select ebooks. Wifi would have been useful in some areas...and a cam would have worked, but mine never had that. Recharged ever so often at the Hostel (adapters are needed) never had me in the position I had to use my back-up on MS and once got a photo sent to me by IR connect link. I was using the Sony Sj33 but I'm sure there is far better units with SD, Wifi, HD cam, voice recording... you'll always find room for it. I would stop at internet cafe's or photostores all over the place and burn a CD disk once I had 3-400 images collected. And don't forget the ear buds. Raining... throw it into a zip baggy. Pick a Palm device... easy to use.

Stick a paper/sticky with your name and contact info, and the serial# of the device, secret this inside the machine in a likely area that a tech would see (thieves are rarely techs). Make sure you offer a reward and cover all costs for the return of this stolen property, and insist that this note would be removed if the sale was legitimate. You might get lucky, and the kicker is you usually can track back the thief.

  13. Re:Not so funny when/if the seller commits suicide on Online Revenge · · Score: 4, Insightful

The presumption for that, is this seller is 'honourable','respectable', and didn't sell a dead laptop with inflated specs. The images on this system clearly show otherwise and there is legal redress if he feels that he has been wronged... the truth can hurt.

  14. Re:But... on Theaters Unhappy About Faster DVD Releases · · Score: 1

I recently enjoyed the lastest Harry Potter film digitally remastered for Imax. It was worth every penny of the premium I paid, and far beyond your average theater projection. So I would say... more 'quality' digital, lets push the envelope.

On the other issues, I'll have to agree... I watched the animation 'Robots', with fuzzy focus, over projection on a small screen, noisy public, and a cold room. To get me into that theater again, there would have to be a lot of changes. I thought THX dolby was supposed to mean something, but not at this chain.
