Nintendo has yet to release any Wii game that uses the network features. Look, the parent sounded like a shill to me too, but the God of War franchise is widely known for having amazing gameplay AND graphics.
Considering that GoW 2 is a PS2 title, I'm sure it won't outclass either of the systems (or at least the 360) in terms of graphics (although I'm sure if God of War is any indication it will push the PS2 to it's absolute limit), so that leaves gameplay.
Even worse, when I say, "I don't listen to music.", it's assumed that I am a completely uninteresting shlub who's leisure hours are filled with TV sitcom reruns.
Which features does it lack that cannot be added in? The memory card readers? Oh wait, buy your own and plug it in via USB. The Wifi? Buy a wireless bridge. The less hard disk space? Buy a bigger hard drive (something that you cannot do on the 360).
Buy all those features you listed for the core and all of a sudden it's a lot more expensive than the Premium 360. Buy the hard drive and it's already more than the cost of the premium 360, at least in Canada, (the hard drive costs $130 here) let alone all the other accessories you listed.
The PS3 plays all PS3 games just as the core 360 does, except it comes packed with most other stuff that the core 360 DOESN'T. Microsoft is promoting all these great things you can do with the 360, except they all require the hard drive. That XBox Live Arcade everyone raves about? Sure, you can put MAYBE 1 or 2 games on your overpriced memory card before running out of space, but that doesn't sound like a great experience to me.
I'm not saying that the PS3 is better than the 360, I'm saying that for all the stuff it gives you they shouldn't be expected to lower their price to the Core 360 which gives you so much less in comparison.
Hear hear. I think that's why Generals was such a letdown to me. I might have been a notable game on its own, but it was NOT a C&C game. Everything that defined the C&C series was ripped out of Generals. The sidebar where you controlled everything? Replaced with a starcraft-esque bottom bar, which was not only a step backwards, but was badly designed. You could only stack up to 9 units in a build order at once. The universe of Generals had nothing to do with any of the other C&C games. FMV? Gone. Storyline/plot? Gone. I'm hoping EA at least accomplishes something with C&C3.
And for those RTS fans who have not had the privilege of trying the beta, Supreme Commander is indeed supreme. I have not had more fun with an RTS since...I can't even remember. This is going to be a keeper RTS fans, so on February 20th, march over to your local game store and pick up a copy. The only thing that might keep you from it are the system requirements...they're quite steep.
This is wrong, mod parent down. Only Future Shop/Best Buy (same parent company) did this. Wal-mart/EB/wherever else still have the same lower price. Nice FUD.
The XBox and XBox 360 are radically different architectures though. The Wii still uses the same basic architecture that was used in the Gamecube. In simplest terms yes, it is a faster Gamecube, just as your new PC (with increased memory capacity and a faster processor) is faster than your old PC.
$299? For something that gives you MORE than the premium 360? At least price it at the cost of the premium 360, because all things considered, even if you remove the Blu-ray player you're still getting the HDMI out. Contrary to popular belief, the 20GB version is not a crippled POS like the Core 360.
I don't know where the hate on the UMD format in general came from, but it's certainly unwarranted. Firstly, UMD movies were just one side of the equation. No one bought them. So? They were needed for the games. These are discs much smaller than mini-DVDs that can hold 1.8 GB of information. What is your suggestion for how they handled data storage? Nintendo DS Style? The DS cartridge can hold a whopping 1 Gigabit of information. That's 128MB. The games on the PSP cannot run in the space of 128MB, not even Lumines, which is the least resource intensive of them all.
I hated the price of UMD movies as much as the next guy (if they had been maybe 5-10 bucks a pop, sure...), but I don't think UMD had anything to do with the PSP being expensive, and I don't think they put UMD in there just for the sake of overcharging for portable movies. The PSP is expensive because it can render close to PS2 quality graphics in a handheld, not because of yet another cheap optical format.
In addition to what's been said above, while you play WoW there is also a background uploader/downloader running constantly serving chunks of the patch you previously downloaded out to others. Obviously it must have quite a strict limit on how much upload bandwidth can be used because I've never had it adversely affect my connection while playing.
I'm replying to this, but this is aimed at the entire argument below this particular parent. You guys are arguing over a misunderstanding of terms. When he said URM, he meant the User Access Control system which warns you when you go about doing malicious stuff. It can be turned off. It is not the same as DRM, which is in place in different areas of Vista that have nothing to do with UAC.
Isn't it redundant? I've been wondering this for a while, but it now seems that there are TWO anti-piracy methods within Windows. One is activation, the other is WGA. Why couldn't Microsoft use activation for all this instead of creating another layer beyond it? Is it that the activation system is too easily cracked? If so, WGA is just as redundant because it's been cracked too. So why the two layers? Why not just combine the activation and WGA validation into one step? It doesn't really make sense to me.
It's called a store. Your whole "I REALLY WANT TO BUY GUYS" speech might have had some credence had it not been for the fact that you can go buy DRM free audio content RIGHT NOW. Yes, they're called *gasp* CDs. You can argue that DVDs are DRMed but CSS has been broken for so long pretty much any software transparently cracks it for you.
If you truly did want to support the artists, you'd buy their CDs and go to their concerts, not make up excuses like "the only way I can buy music is ITMS...and it's DRMed!"
Right, because the 100,000 people on OiNK uploading their personally ripped music to very high standards are all part of the scene. (Maybe arguably they are, but they're not "scene")
A good private tracker can be much better than a listing of quality scene releases.
Rogers only has a 100GB cap for it's Extreme customers (the 6mbps/800kbps plan). Regular customers have a 60GB cap (which is still better than Bell at least).
"Warcraft 3 completely lost the dynamics of Starcraft, instead becoming a contest of who-outnumbers-who"
That was the complete opposite of Warcraft 3 IMO. With the population limit the game was much more about level your hero and micromanage the hell out of your guys than anything else. Starcraft was much more of a who-outnumbers-who.
1. Very few failures in backwards compatibility (especially compared to the 360).
2. Lower resolution? What? All PS2 games play at their original resolution. There's some issue with certain games but it has nothing to do with resolution.
3. I've yet to hear reports of the PS3 overheating, except for the crappy demo kiosks, and I assume that's because they're starving for air in their closed space. No reports of PS3s overheating in peoples homes as far as I know.
Honestly, the PS3 is a great piece of launch hardware, especially compared to the 360 which was abysmal at launch (returned 360's galore) and still tends to have many problems (I still hear stories of people who are on their 3rd+ 360, nothing like that about PS3). I'm not saying that everything PS3 is perfect, there are issues, it's just that you didn't really mention any of them.
What? The downloading feature has definitely been used, for PS3 specific games, PS1 games released for PSP, game demos, and more. I'm not sure where you're coming from.
You mean the verse where it's a large number of fast taps in a row followed by a spinner x3? Yeah, just wait until you play it in HARD ROCK mode ;)
That was like me on the final level in Elite Beat Agents. I just recently (finally) beat it and am now concentrating on S ranking the levels.

This is still an issue with Vista correct? They haven't changed anything about how they store their passwords?
Even worse, when I say, "I don't listen to music.", it's assumed that I am a completely uninteresting shlub who's leisure hours are filled with TV sitcom reruns.
So wait, who's going to be the new fun guy then?

What? You don't write all your documents and posts in HTML?!
Doesn't have to have an RPG in the MMO. It could be an MMORTS? Not sure how that would work, but if anyone could make it work it's Blizzard.

Yeah, I can't wait for World of Starcraft either!
To be fair..

The iPhone is an iPod replacement. 16 hours of music listening.

Why is there speculation over whether it will be called iTV or not when he said back when he announced it that it WASN'T going to be called iTV?
